Here is a portrait with 60D at 3200 ISO:
I think if you want a great improvement in ISO you should look for a FF camera.

35L with what kind of camera(FF, APS-C, APS-H)?
Did you try MFA(if you have this feature on your camera)?

I use EF-S 15-85 IS if I have to bear 1 lens, but it's expensive.
Check Sigma 17-70 OS 2.8-4, I think it's a good price/performance, but it overlaps range of your 17-40.
I'm not a big fan of 18-135, but maybe it's good for traveling.

Well, I tested my card on Win 7 32Bit and had no problems, did you try Run as Administrator?
There are more programs for this, but you can put it simple:
Make folder with 1 GB photos on your computer and copy it to SD card in reader. Check the time in second - for 20mb/s(claimed) this should be done for about 50 seconds(or little more). If it continues more than 100 seconds card is not class 10, else - problem is not in the card.

I use ATTO Disk Benchmark(just point the drive in card reader and click Start) - http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1749/ATTO_Disk_Benchmark_v2.46.html

What about Bower SFD728C: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/515450-REG/Bower_SFD728C_SFD728C_TTL_Flash_for.html
There are positive customer reviews...

Well, I'm with Transcend class 10, 16GB card for a while(T1i) and on test it's 18mb/s Read and 15mb/s Write(laptop card reader) - for me is enough, I know T2i needs more speed...
Did you test your card performance via reader, maybe the cards is not 20mb/s?
Or just buy Sandisk Extreme 30mb/s - it's the fastest card around.

Well...
I want:
EF-S 30 f1.8 - light and cheap.
EF-S 12 f2.8 - missing wide EF-S prime
EF-S 15-60 IS f4 - 15-85 is good, but I would charge last 25mm for constant f4.
And something to replace old 100-400 IS... 120-360 IS F4 would be great.

I had a weekend with E-M1 + 40-150 2.8 and 1.4x converter.
I have very good impressions with this combination - amazing lens, very nice focus and sharpness. I tried portrait, street, macro and even sport(soccer in low light) performance.
Here is the blog with my impressions and large 3200x2400 px pictures - http://www.nonchoiliev.com/blog/2183
I love telephoto lenses and I have experience with many of the Canon Big Whites, but this little 40-150 is very impressive and versatile.
