Get it all agreed in writing too.

You'll never be happy for more than 6 months with any DSLR camera as long as Nikon continues feeding NAS syndrome.
I have to applaud their continued marketing prowess....they have succeeded in this forum

Looks like some dust spots in the works too - need to clean the sensor

Matthew,
If you're using it for "work photos" consider your ROI factor, and the fact if it last for a few years you most likely made money with it on the cheap.

Emmett - hope you get it repaired at a reasonable rate. Check with property insuror in the UK, in the states you can get coverage for cameras/gear that is inexpensive and well worth it for accidents like yours.

Are you sure you and your plane weren't in Area 53?

These great Canon lens debates continue:
50mm f1.4 v. f1.2
70-200mm f/4 v. f2.8
IS or not? and many, many other lenses alike
Use what you like based on appreciated performance and take suggestions from others with a grain of salt

John,
Check this site out for Canon lens reviews and sample shots of what each lens can provide you.
Also, what is your level of experience? From your posts, you seem to be a beginner, and I would suggest reading more about photography on this forum that pertains to your particular interests. There is a wealth of information here, so just go and discover what's cool to you.

Some other thoughts:

You may have incorrectly placed the batteries into the flash.

Did you use different types of batteries, for example mixed alkaline, Nimh or Lithium?

These may have contributed or it may have just died on its own, although a 2 year old flash would have to be used frequently to burn it out.
Hope you get an answer from Canon

Explosion or pop? Explosions usually emit smoke or flying pieces similar to a bomb.
Sounds like the end of your 430EX flashtube. I would send it in to Canon for an estimate on the repair or possibly call them for advice first.

Another vote for the Hood only approach! The coatings make most modern lens easier to clean and are optimized for color reproduction. The main thing to consider is shooting directly towards a light source and introducing flare. Finally, how many expensive 400mm - 600mm lenses have filters over the objective end?

YGWYPF - especially on Craigs... ;)

I found the culprit. In DPP preferences I had CMYK simulation set to "US Web Coated..." Try this setting on yours and you'll see a soft hazy image.
When I Reset it to "None" everything is fine.

Mike,
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried them but the change from High Quality to High Speed made no difference to the image which still has the haze cast. The attached composite will show the problem:
DPP-1 is the image with the haze cast as viewed in the image viewer of DPP
DPP-2 is the same image when viewed in the trimming mode
Any other ideas?

To me it looks like a mount to attach a bolt to secure some type of steel framing. But hey, what do I know I just work with engineers all the time. ;)

Interesting discussion. A famous auction site recently sent me a survey requesting how sellers should classify items and this very question appeared.
Is it accurate terminology in either case or is it merely subjective opinion? No definitive answers here either.....

Mike, I can't post screen shots from DPP it closes the window before the clip can be made.
Just looks hazy like you placed a filter over the screen. Canon said to reload the software but that didn't work, go figure ;)

You can get fantastic prints from film, but the scanner is another option the OP might want

WOW! That's the equivalent to 2694 rolls of 35mm film ;)

I don't see why it wouldn't work on the 420EX. The main thing is to set the zoom to 50mm which directs the flash to the optimal area on the fresnel lens, which gets you maximum range. The guide number is lower on the 420EX but you would still have the same coverage, just less intensity.

Which is better? Canon 17-40mm f/4L or Canon 17-55 f/2.8mm for landscape photography with 7D
in Canon EOS Mount

If you have the money go for the 17-55,
although the 17-40 is no slouch either.
