  1. <p>I just hacked my camera and used one of these li-ion batteries from ebay.<br />I tested the original ni-cad battery and it shows 9v eventhough the label says 7.4v<br />This chinese battery takes in 12v and puts out 12/9/5v. I chose the 9v output.<br />I opened the side of the camera to reveal the wires leading up to the battery terminals.<br />I then soldered two wire directly to the leads and connected the 9v direct to that.<br />Everything works great.<img     I have Elinchrom S4000 and X6000N heads. I no longer have any Elinchrom packs.<br>

    Recently I acquired a Broncolor Primo A pack (1600WS?) and some heads.<br>

    I would like to rewire the Elinchrom heads to work with the Bronocolor.<br>

    I've seen a picture and a short mention of this being done before so I know it's possible.<br>

  4. <p>The popup flash on camera send out information to the remote flashes via infrared signals encoded in the bursts of lights that it puts out. It's really fast and looks like one flash to our eyes. I'm not a fan of this method.<br>

    I use inexpensive flash triggers based on radio frequencies as opposed to infrared. I used to use Cybersyncs from alienbees. They work great but I've found a cheaper more solid solution.<br>

    CheetahStand.com sells these Pixel Soldier triggers/receivers that are very good. It's only $60 for a set. The great thing is that they do grouping which means you can turn off certain flashes remotely.<br>

    PocketWizards are expensive and limiting. They only have a flash sync speed of 160/sec. Good luck trying to do high speed sync with them. It's bad enough that our cameras have sync speeds around 250th. We don't need to go slower.<br>

    Pixel also have a model called the Knights, that does TTL for both Canon and Nikon.</p>

    The display in the viewfinder turns off after a few seconds as it should.<br>

    When I get ready to take a shot, I bring the camera up to my eye and look into the viewfinder.<br>

    Then I depress the shutter release button slightly to get the display in the viewfinder to turn on again so that I can see the exposure reading. As the display turns on, the shutter fires. I didn't even have time to set the exposure or compose the shot or get anything in focus.<br>

    Why is it firing prematurely without the shutter button being depressed all the way down?<br>

    Camera is on Single Servo mode too.<br>

    And it is unpredictable when it will prematurely fire.</p>

    yes 35mm x 1.5 = 52.5mm F1.8 is pretty fast so that's a good lens for dark places.<br>

    Stay away from "P" mode. That's only for professionals.<br>

    Learn to use "M" mode. That stands for "Might learn something"<br>

  7. <p>I really think a nice used camera like the D200 is a great choice too. Save the money and spend it on a good lens. A used D200 is around $400 to $500. It has a rugged metal alloy body with weather seal. From what you described this camera is more than enough for what you want to do and will take you a while to grow into.</p>

    Works great. Comes with everything you need to mount onto a light stand.<br>

    I bought the optional Speedbracket Pro to mount the speedlight horizontally but it's not really necessary.<br>

    Along with the inner and outter diffuser, mine came with grids which I know a lot of other brands don't, and also a round mask to get perfect circular catch lights in the eyes. The grids work really well for controling light spill.</p>

    <p>I had an old PCB 24x36 softbox (Lightgear USA brand) and wanted to use it with my SB-800.<br>

    CheetahStand.com sells an adapter similar to the Interfit Strobie XS adapter called the Cheetah Speed Pro bracket for $65. <br>

    <p>Not as cheap of a solution as tape and bungee cords but it's probably cheaper than Interfit and looks professional. I like it more than Interfit because you can slide the speedlight in and out of the hole in the back.<br>

    I'm also interested in getting a Westcott Apollo 50". It looks like a great setup and you can rig it to have more than one speedlight.</p>
