1.
Is a simple OPTICAL viewfinder (does not have to be rangefinder) that hard to do in 2010???? Cheap 35mm P&S used to have them.. I will agree with David though.. It is "so close". For me the laundry list for the " Leica X2" would be:
1) Nice clear large optical viewfinder would be it. With a fixed lens, assuming a photographer understands parallax error, it should not be an issue.
2)Maybe they will go crazy and decide to put a Yashica T4 style simple, additional waistlevel finder
3) For my taste, a little longer lens.. a 28/2 ( 42mm equivalent )would be perfect here. I loved the 45/2 contax 35mm perspective as well as the miniliux 40mm in its day. It is my favorite focal length next to 50mm (35mm equiv)
If they do item 1 above, I may buy it.
If they do item 1 & 3, I will definitely buy it.
If they do item 1, 2 &3... I will be on a transatlantic flight to Solms, Germany as soon as it is announced and camp outside the headquarters and beat on their doors until they sell me one to get rid of me.

  2. There is a lot of chatter on the net, here on photo.net and the lf

pages specifically about the film flatness (or lack thereof) in a

fuji quickload holder vs regular film holders or the ancient

grafmatics, however there is very little info on the quickload II

holder. Has film flatness gotten better, worse, or stayed the same

with the quickload II vs the older quickload.

Also, Robert white sells this holder in the UK for 125 UKP, badger

graphic and b&H seem to still be selling the older holder. Is this

correct? Or am I missing something?

  3. Well .. let's see.. compared to the D1x or EOS-1d the price is quite reasonable. It seems to be a working pro caliber body. Also, there are a couple of features that are really interesting.. ultrasonic dust cleaning and most important of all.. lens-camera communication as it pertains to certain lens imperfections (distortion, vignetting). These are features that make it worthwhile. Having said that, is the $2199 MSRP or street price? If the former, there is still hope. Also, I wonder what the consumer SLR version SLR due next year will look like and what it will cost?
  4. Shung Cheung is correct in theory. The DOF does not change if the aperture, focal length and magnification do not change. However because of the shorter focal lengths used in present day digital photography (to compensate for the size of the sensor).. the magnification is different and therefore one is unable to obtain the out-of-focus backgrounds if needed.
  5. It seems to me that photograpers who talk about value of their equipment treat it as if it was an investment and not a photograpic tool

Strange.. We just bought a new washing machine. I do not think that I am too overtly concerned that it will be outdated in the next 6 months and I will have to upgrade it. I am sure it will provide me with years of service.

Does it matter what your equipment costs or what the residual value will be if you like using it and it gives you the pictures you want.. some like their M's. some like their d60's or eos1v's

If value is what your concern is, perhaps US treasuries might be in order or in better times... the stock market.

  6. I think Petr has hit the nail on the head. Comparing R8 APO-Telyt vs another high quality lens from Canon or Contax or Nikon is a moot point for most purposes. Can film resolve more than the CCD on a D30 or D60... yes. Can a current $2k scanner pick this up.. no. Will you ever be able to bring this resolution to paper.. unlikely. I love film. But the bottom line seems to be that if all you do are 8x10 prints or even 11x14, a D60 will be better and more convinient.
  7. Afraid not.. the canon lens hoods may be expensive but they are worth it since they are specific to the lenses and can be used in conjunction with a filter since they bayonet on. I do not have a problem with my 20/2.8 lens even with the hood.
