1.
Imacon Flextight 343 Scanner or higher number of the series will cover all you ever need and more in your scanning work.

This Hasselblad owned company/brand has produced a lots of scanners and some of them are of course on the secondhand market/ebay for example, but best is to visit a company where you can test which model is best for your needs. And once again you can surely find lots of material of the Imacon scanners on the youtube..
Any of those scanners will bring a lot of fun to your life if you have got lots of film material. Of course they need regular service but are true workhorses and you can automate lot of the functions once you have come accustomed with the unit.
This is the "Leica of the scanners" and you can forget Nikon and all other brands if you are interested to do some serious work. (By the time you have used one of these - you will laugh that you even though that Leica would produce any scanners:) -and it won't I promise;)
All the best - Hannu

David Rabinowitz
“this is really a step backwards...with a little more ingenuity, there could have been options to rate on a basic level vs. a more advanced level, giving the user the preference...innovation should have been the focus...
I have to agree with David – there should have been more innovative solution to the rating (and there surely is..). Such system should serve and have compelling reasons for raters to identify themselves and urge people to write if they rate- even if this would demand more computer capacity… My guess is that the huge increase of photographers and photos might overload the servers and their capacity to handle all data along the ratings. However, that should not become a problem during these times of efficiency.
Anyhow, photo.net should maintain and increase its educative function ( I am not saying that the former system did that- but the avg system definitely does not) and develop and set goal to a more complex innovative system, where the increased amount of photos are rated both by professional photographers and those who are seriously interested.
But sure this costs money and takes time – but would make us all feel better in the more polymorphic realm of photography, which photo.net is part of.
I hope that there would be broad-minded constructive discussion about the new features, which have now been taken into practice...and reason if there is need to through stones to those who “do not want to take the time to assign two different numbers to an image”..(imho that is…)
3.
Well, the Contax 645 has a AF micromotor which is very sensitive, the advice you have received concerning the spot metering is one trick, second can be a low battery. Sometimes cleaning the metal connection "pins" between the body and lens with the antistatic brush helps in the same way. All the best, Hannu

  4.
Well I would suggest that you would buy a real cheap but good old film camera and practice with that. The lens could be then used in the digital camera later- Novadays people are selling Nikkormats and old Nikons in C-condition and sometimes you can get them with bargain price with a good lens. Once you have done your homework and understand all what you can do with the film camera I suggest you move to shoot more digital - and hey why not do that at the same time:)? Be just sure that you get good digital body to support the lens. Nikon digital body D90 (if that accepts the lens) would be my choice (there are many others-depends how keen you are with your hobby and how you look into future) but you have to figure out the whole budget. Cards, printers etc. If you are eager enough you might find all of the stuff at the same place. If not - do some studying after consulting camera club senior or someone who is really dedicated long time photographer and has a open mind for your project.
Good luck in the search- and as you know and notice you can always consult sites like photo.net and many other as you get closer making decisions. BR Hannu

  5.
Well Bob, Axel has put it politely and correct. If you are by definition using a professional photographer to do the website photos it does not matter if the order comes from small or large company. The hours spent and the invested capital for hardware and editing software and work hours has to be paid according to normal pricing calculations. The professional will charge normally and will do a good guaranteed job. But I am sure that there will be many eager people -photographers as well - who might do the job as agreed "maybe 500 USD". I think it would be better to rephrase the question and define all the elements in the formula ...and then you get further in the discussion of the definitions...
"Although the digital age has produced a huge number of people who are more or less skilled in their photographic work- but does not by any means mean that they are professionals in the true meaning"(said one professional not so long ago). Then again meeting deadlines with perfect work might not be what you are referring to your example :)?

  6. Well, Nikon D3 has FX sensor - so there is no reason to presume that it DMR2 would not be possible?. If you have reference information-

that is then a different story ? Leica AG and any other camera company for that matter is capable of manufacturing complete removable

back/s for their SLRs. It is not just commercially interesting- and never will be.

However, completing a project as R9/DMR, which has already number of users with better sensor (Phase One/Leica can negotiate with

Kodak or Dalsa and they provide a suitable one- so no problems there -does not have to exactly 37Mb- they can choose..) will be good for

the company product line. S2 can be a spinoff for that.. What comes to R10 is an other story. Surely, there is a possibility that it will be

also provided with AF and other goodies..who knows..maybe there is a reference for this as well..;)

  7. This is wishful thinking of course. But you do not have to be an engineer to think to use 30x45mm sensor instead of the the previous one.

Of course, there is work to be done (if not done yet for experimentation). Still, S2 as a system is good advertisement and meant to a

limited number of people. Then again DMR2 would at least make R9 and the series with this modification "a volume product":) not to

mention the cheering DMR owners who would be best advertisement for the company.

  8. I truly hope that Leica AG will offer this later as an upgrade kit -DMR2- to be used together with R9. This would be worth

while not only to the company but to those who have bought and used Leica R9/DMR back and contributed to the product

development and would make them feel appreciated (special price of course in exchange:)). Leica would be still be the only

company with the truly sensible idea of detachable back(s) to SLR cameras and together with top class upgrade this would

boost the sales of R serie lenses too..

  9. Leica AG should offer this later as a modified kit ("DMR2") to be used together with R9. All those who have bought and used Leica

R9/DMR back and contributed in this way to the product development would feel appreciated and it would be logical to the company to

continue with the detachable backs with an high class upgrade.
