The Western Prairie Fringed Orchid is an endangered species in Canada and Manitoba. I photographed this exotic plant using a 500mm f4 lens... I like the depth of field control that can be achieved using telephoto lenses for macro style images

This is a difficult image for me to rate Fred. It has tremendous visual impact and is therefore a strong image in my opinion. However, it does not particularly appeal to me from an asthetic pespective and while the subject matter / behavior captured is unique, the image does not particularly convey a signinficant originality in terms of the way that it is portrayed (a 'flaw' that is common to many of my images, as well). From my perspective, it is a pretty awesome documentary image. I am just going to refrain from rating this one on asthetics and originality.
