1.
I have a 92% transparency straw gel. How would I be able to color my model without the gel being washed out flash?
Much denser gels are easy (10% transparency and lower), but what about those that are less dense?

Im using Olympus FL-50R flash
Rosco Gels

Thanks in advance for all answers,
Kevin.

 2.
I have a BN-1 Ni MH battery pack (for the SHV-1 battery pack), that does not hold a charge. Is there any way the cell can be reconditioned?

Thanks in advance for all answers,
3.
I have a friend that is setting up a home studio. She is a stay home mom, and her funds are limited. She wants to invest in a Einstein Strobe. She currently has a Nikon SB-700. Would it make sense (at this time) to invest in a second speedlight (like another, preowned, sb-700), which would be less expensive, and more portable? She is doing newborn and family portraiture.

Thanks in advance for all answers,

 4.
@ Michael They are flat pieces, ranging from 9 x 12 to 30 x 36 inches. I can try your ideas, but where should I place my camera? Straight on perpendicular to the artwork? Or off to the side (where I would have to use PS for perspective correction...ugh) BTW Mike I`m on Long Island..Hi neighbor!

@Tom That`s an interesting idea Tom. Thanks. And I would be using a large light source too, I take it. I do have a Westcott Apollo softbox.
@Charles..ahhh the angle of reflection principle..Yes I`m using off camera flash, and though I love to shoot through panels, her living room may not be large enough for that. So I will go with the Apollo, and see what happens.

Once again thank you guys so much.

 5.
A friend of mine needs some high res photos of her mosaic work. These are reflective surfaces, and was wondering how to shoot them so A) I wont cast reflection in the tiles B) what angle should I place the camera (would it work if I shot the art piece straight on?) C) what lighting setup should I use. I`m open to any and all suggestions.
Thank you in advance for your help.

 6.
would I be able to knock down the sun at high noon with 1 quantum T5DR? or would I have to purchase and Elinchrom, Profoto, or other high end battery operated strobes?

thanks in advance for all answers

 7.
When using either my E-510 or E-3, I change my focus point (in camera) and take the picture. When I review the photo, the green focus box always end up in the area where the center point was located when I took the shot, not at my new location of the focal point.
Why is this, and can this affect my TTL exposures?

Thanks in advance,
8.
On my FL-36R, I can increase power output in 1/3 f-stops off camera. It seems I cannot do this with the FL-50R`s...Checked the manual, and it seems like this is not possible. Am I missing something here?
Thank you in advance for all responses.
9.
I`m really struggling with this....
I want to photograph a portrait behind a glass frame.
I`ve seen a technique used by Derrick Story using 2 speedlights on stands, equidistant from picture, pointed at 90 degrees toward the subject. The flashes are to cancel each other out so there is no specularity on the glass....It`s just not working for me...any ideas?
Thank you in advance for all answers,

Kevin

2 FL-50R speedlights on light stands

 10.
I will be photographing senior citizens in a few weeks. Should I use a butterfly light pattern (using the 60in brolly) to most effectively fill wrinkles? Is there a better way?
I only have umbrellas at my disposal..60in westcott convertable (bounce and shoot through satin), as well as 2-43in white shoot throughs.
Or do you think it would be a better idea to use the 2 white shoot throughs pointing at each side of the face (like a horizontal clamshell)?

TY in advance for all answers

Kevin

 11.
I would like to create different colors by blending colors (using 2-3 speedlights) from gels. Is there a chart available that would tell me which color gels to use in tandem to produce other colors?
FYI I have the sample packs from Lee and Rosco, using 2- FL 50R speedlights (Olympus)

Thanks in advance for all answers.
12.
Thx Mukul, and Greg. I was shooting at f/5.6 800 iso. This was the first time it has happened, so I had no clue what was up (missed some key moments, but my second got them...whew!) Fortunately, I had a second unit, and continued shooting. Wish Oly had some sort of notification to when the flash is overheated, but o well...Think I will go back to manual flash, and use a different modifier....what model Demb fits the FL50R? And whats the difference in performance wise between Powerex, and Enenloop batteries?

 13.
I recently shot a wedding, using a lightsphere modifier, Auto ttl flash with manual exposure, and a HV-1 battery pack, in a low light catering hall. After 90 minutes, the flash stopped functioning (now mind you, the subject distance varied between 5 to 10 feet, so I figured the flash output was not full power all the time.), and the "test" button locked Could this be a function of the flash`s thermal overload protection (if it has one)?
TIA for all responses,

Kevin

 14.
Using Sekonic L-508, I metered a cd spindle (using an umbrella as my modifier), and read iso 100, f/4, 125th of a sec.
I encountered blinkies when taking the shot. Changing my camera settings to f/5.6, 60th of a sec..NO BLINKIES...why is that?

Thank you in advance for all answers...:-)

 15.
It`s interesting the lighting that David Ziser obtains with his quantum setup. Bridal shots at the beach at dusk. Maybe the lowered ambient lighting helps make the bride pop more, even though he may be using 200w/s . There is much less sun to compete with, when the evening approaches. I too have seen Dave McNally do something similar with 2 SB-900`s. Again, this was pulled off near dusk.
Thank you all once again for your responses. Seems like I may have to dig a little deeper in the pocketbook...lol.....:-(

 16.
Ok Matt, let me be more specific. I would like to shoot full length wedding receptions (as well as location shots) and portraiture, using the strobe to fill, as well as overpowering sunlight. Portability? Able to carry a battery pack on my waist. Sandbags is a viable option, though the light can be held comfortably via monopod.
Looking to spend around $1000.00-$1500.00 max

 18.
I`m looking at weddings and portraiture. Looking to knock out the sun, and make my subjects pop. Currently I am looking at a quantum system (I love it`s portatbility as far as having a bettery pack on my waist and holding the modifier on the flash with a monopod), but open to all suggestions
