1.
Thanks to anyone who offered suggestions the last time I posted. As suggested, I am reposting with more details about the situation.
So, I was approached my someone who is starting a business and wants me to do photography for him. He is creating a website that will sell 'fine art' prints. He has a series he is working on with images he shot in Maui (he calls himself an amateur photographer and would like me to do the post production on his images as well) . He wants me to take pictures around Lake Michigan and maybe Chicago. He is also shooting a series in London. His goal is to launch the website with images from these series for sale as prints. There will also be an option to purchase the prints as framed works of art. His goal is to get at least a couple of series available for sale in time for the Christmas season. He has said that he would like to pay me hourly for shooting and editing.
To answer the question of how the images will be used- They will be for sale on his website as prints or framed prints.
Also, he is putting together a contract that will deal with licensing and royalties (He suggested both). I don't think he is really sure how this should work either, and is trying to do research himself. He said he wants this to be more of a partnership, in the future- him handling the marketing side and me the photography side (as well as potentially adding more photographers in the future). I just want to go into the situation as educated as possible.

 2.
I have been approached by a new company that is developing websites to sell artwork on. I know of the person through someone else who's opinion I trust and value. They have a good marketing plan and target market, and seem very talented in the areas of marketing and building web pages, so I am interested. I believe they could be very successful. They have agreed to pay me hourly to shoot the series. Then they have talked about licensing the images and collecting royalties. This is new territory for me. What kind of license should I agree to? Also how much would be a fair amount to receive for royalties? Is there a certain % I should receive of their sales for the royalties? Also wondering if anyone has a good sample contract for a situation like this. Thanks for any help you can give me!

 3.
Thank you both for your advice. I like the idea of sending them a few shots to see if they like how I would photograph the products and staff members. If I go forward with this, I think I'll do that. I also do want to avoid the "scope-creep" situation, so I will make sure the details of the project are clearly defined. I hadn't thought of this being a big issue, so it is good you mentioned it. I called with the quote this morning...not much of a reaction, so I guess I'll just wait and see if they contact me again. Thanks again, I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

 4.
Tony- I am confident that I can shoot the style they are looking for. They sent me some examples. I've done a little bit for fun on my own and over the last few days I took some shots of my own photo books, albums, and some pamphlets, magazines, ect... They just want these against a black backdrop. The shots of the employees against a white backdrop. As you said, I get the feeling that shooting the number of product shots they want will be time consuming....I'm just not sure exactly how time consuming as I haven't done a project like this. I would hate to pass up the opportunity, though....Commercial work really interests me and I would love to start doing some work like this. I have the studio equipment, but I work from home. Don't yet have a studio area at home that I would take clients to. So, I would be travelling to them. I do have a business. Have been building my wedding and portrait portfolio over the last year and a half. I just got some quotes for insurance last week. I've chosen a company, just need to send in the paperwork. I wanted to get an estimate of what someone with more experienced would charge, and then adjust according to my level of experience and the time I think the whole project would take.. I want to be in the ball park. I've done research online and found quotes for this kind of work from $500 all the way to $2500. That's a big range!

 5.
I need to give a quote to an advertising company. I have not done any work like this yet, so I am wondering how to price it. After seeing my portfolio online, an advertising company contacted me about taking some photos of their employees and taking some product photos of brochures, books, magazines ect.. that they have made. There are 10 employees and about 15 product pieces to photograph. They also want me to put together collage images of the product shots, about 4 images per product (different angles and details of products). They would like to use the images on their website. At a loss... I have shot weddings and portraits thus far, so I'm not sure how to price something like this. Thanks for any help!

 6.
John-
My goal is to have them ordered by Monday. That way there is enough time for them to get here and then try again if I need to. I am doing prints and framing them- they shouldn't take too long to get here. I'm trying to strike a balance between more work to choose from and not cutting it too close. It's a first time experience for me. Thank you for the advice, I'm sure I'll learn a lot doing this first show! I do have 2 leather bound flush mount albums and one modern book through Pictage, two coffee table type books, and a proof book already.
I have some finals picked out. Here is a link to them. Easier than searching through my website. http://www.facebook.com/editalbum.php?aid=27624&add=1&id=129983140347543&flash=1#!/album.php?aid=27624&id=129983140347543

 7.
This is a different question than my last one, so I guess I should post it separately? (Not sure, I'm new to the forum world)
I have a booth at my first Bridal show at the end of August. I was waiting until as late as possible to order large images to display so I would have more work to choose from. It is soo hard to choose images to print large for the show! And I have a limited budget. I want to pick about 4 or 5. my website is www.hollycolemanphotography.com. If anyone has a vote for a favorite few images, that would be awesome! I would really appreciate it! Thanks so much!

 8.
Also, on a different note, it is soo hard to choose images to print large for the show. And I have a limited budget. I want to pick about 4 or 5. my website is www.hollycolemanphotography.com. If anyone has a vote for a favorite few images, that would be awesome! ...Or should I post this question in a different thread? (I'm new to the forum world). Thanks so much!

 9.
Thanks for the responses. I do shoot in RAW. By 340 resolution I meant that when I open it in photoshop and check image size it says 340 resolution pixles/inch. Is that the same as DPI? I haven't changed the resolution from the original file, just resized the inches and kept the constraints on, in image size in photoshop, so that it automatically changed the res to 340 in photoshop. The original image from my camera was 300.
I will try the 8x10 crop. I do lossless compressed and 12bit right now. When I shoot the next time I will do RAW uncompressed 14bit.
I'm still working on the sharpness of my photos. They always look better as smaller sizes tho...
Here is an image I am thinking about printing. I hope you can see it. Can you tell if it is sharp enough?
Is there a better lens to shoot with? To get sharp images? I have a 70-200mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 17-35mm 2.8 and 60mm 2.8. Haven't tried the 50mm yet in a portrait session. Just got it in the mail yesterday!
Still baffled at how people get those super sharp pictures... just takes more experience? Or is it better camera and lenses....?

00Ws8a-260477584.jpg.6f9489d6db0092af7ad1daff822aa4de.jpg

 10.
I need to print large prints for an upcoming bridal show and I am not sure If they will print clearly in a large size! I want to print this image at least 30x20. When I zoom in on the image in photoshop I can see the pixels. It doesn't look that great. Is this an accurate representation of how it will print. The image is sized at 340 res. and 10206x6804 pixels. Any information about how to print a good quality large print will be greatly appreciated! I can email the image if it will help. Also, I am going to shoot a bridal portrait session in a few days and plan to use some of those images. Anything I should think about while shooting, to print a large print? Thanks! ( I shoot with a Nikon D300)
