Thanks Charles!

What about just the fake matte? Anything wrong with that? They could still have it professionally matted if that's what they preferred or just framed as is...

Thoughts are welcome!

I am thinking of offering prints on my site that have a title and my name under the pic in a fake matted area, like this...
Is this way too pretentious? Like I think I'm Ansel Adams? Or is it a decent way to get my name/brand out there for other folks who may see the print framed and displayed somewhere?

I only remember the flying toasters! Anyway, I'll check out Picasa... Like I said, I am looking to make a slideshow type screensaver of my photos that I can offer to other people. They would just have to download it from my site, install it and be done.

I would like to make a photo screen saver of a bunch of my photos and have people be able to download an .exe file from my website and install it onto their own computers.
After doing a quick search, all I can find are screen savers that let you build one for your own computer (including the one that comes with Windows). The one Im am using right now is pretty cool. Its called Screen Paver and you can set it so that whatever picture is being displayed at the time you move your mouse, becomes the wallpaper background image.
If I could build one like that to offer other folks it would be ideal.
Any ideas or can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

Thanks for the info! Seems like every time windows moves forward they take a step back! I found a solution with these guys... http://www.ardfry.com/psd-codec/ It's 20 bucks, but to me its worth it!

I've been setting up a new computer over the last several days and it is slow going! Anyway, I noticed that when I am in a folder containing Photoshop files I can no longer see a visual preview of the file... I can see jpegs, but not the PSD files. All I see is a big icon with the PS logo on it. All of the files were created in Windows 7 or CS2 (I now have CS4) and I could see them on my old computer (windows XP).

Is there a setting within CS4 or Windows 7 that will allow me to see the previews? It's pretty bothersome to have to open a file to see what it is! I have the folder's VIEW set to "Large Icons"

BTW, if all else fails, I can see the previews in Adobe Bridge, so if that is the only way, I will have to adapt!

-

Well, you're a better searcher than I am! Thanks a bunch!

I guess ACR 5.6 is the file I am looking for, but I'll be damned if I can find it. I thought my troubles would be over with CS4. Looks like I got on board too late?!

I just (finally) updated from CS2 to CS4. Mainly so I could work with raw files from my 7D. I had heard PS had a download that would update CS4 for the newest raw files... However, now when I try to search for the download at Adobe's site, I can only see a link for the brand new CS5.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction for getting Canon 7D raw support for CS4?

Thanks!

Andrew,
Yes, I do use Windows Update regularly. It often applies the updates and reboots my computer (which I hate when I'm in the middle of a project!). I guess it had given up on SP3 after the first fail, though.

Had a lot going on lately, still haven't tried to install CS4 again... I have a feeling I'm not that far away from just getting a new system. My motherboard and processor are like 6 years old.

-

My latest version of IE is 6. Like I said, SP3 would not install via auto update or manually. I guess I can try installing latest IE (although, I use Firefox) and give SP3 another shot. But my hopes are not high.

-

Thanks for the respnses, everyone. Yes, I have had my computer on Auto update and I think I remember SP3 failing to install the first time it tried. Anyway, it definitely failed this time. There must be some issue with my aging computer. I will try to install CS4 again and just ignore the SP3 warning. I'll let you know how it turns out.

One of these days I am going to have to buy a new system. My Motherboard is so old it takes AGP graphics cards!

I've been wanting to work with my new Canon 7D raw files in Photoshop. My current edition is CS2 and it cannot open the new raw files. I just tried installing CS4 but hit a snag... During the set-up process I got an alert saying I needed Service Pack 3. I then tried to install SP3. They said I needed the latest Internet Explorer to do so... I don't even use IE, I use Firefox, so I want ahead with a manual install of SP3... About 90% thru, it failed and I had to uninstall it. During the uninstall, I got an error saying that Windows was unable to remove everything and my computer may not run properly. Gee, thanks! As of now, my system seems to be ok... So to make a long question short...

Can I install CS4 over Service pack 2?

Then I guess I can get to the part where I need to download the latest Adobe raw files...

I think I would get one of those see thru LCD protectors, then, with a magic marker, draw the lines right on it. Switch to video mode when you're doing it and use the picture for your guide lines.

Anyone have any idea what one of those mini choppers cost?

-

J.,

I shoot video all day long on a News Camera, so I am just used to how things work that way. It will take some major getting used to until I am comfortable with the 7D as a video shooter. I know some folks have shot entire weddings with this thing, but right now, I would be a disaster at it! A camera sitting on your shoulder gives you a nice steady shot... holding the 7D in front of you... not so much. Also being able to focus on that LCD in bright sunlight is quite challenging!

At this time I don't have any definitive plans for video, but I was thinking about helping a friend as a second camera at wedding shoots.

-

Thanks, J.

And thanks also for telling me what you are using to string the clips together. I had no idea where to turn for that. When I'm finally able to view this stuff in HD, I'd much rather have it as one long clip than 30 short ones!

I think it's too bad that you just can't keep shooting as the same clip when it video shooting mode (unless I am missing something).

Btw, nice flying shots! What ISO were you at when shooting the city at night?

Well, I did some test shots and everything appears to be working as its supposed to. Even though the front pop-up flash does indeed fire, it must do it right before the shutter opens, because there was no light thrown on to the front of my subject. Here's a side by side with just the remote flash selected and another one with the remote and the pop-up with an 8:1 ratio. Now I'll have to try this out on something besides action figures!

-

Great find on those videos! I'm still learning my way around the 7D myself and they are a big help!

-

Thanks, Michael!

If all else fails, I can try the Litho tape, seems like a clumsy solution for something that is supposed to work.

-

Well, I was interested in trying to just use a remote flash as well, and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to keep the pop-up flash from firing. There is an icon that just chooses the speedlite, but even when you select it, both still fire. The best I can do is choose a ratio between the two and set the pop-up for the least amount. Very strange. I think this may be a defect with the camera... and I'm guessing it may be with every unit.

Yeah, and I wish I had the nerve to strap in the 7D! "Crashing is NOT an option!"

-

I loved your photo so much, I thought I'd check the price on that 500mm lens...

Oh. My. God. I'd have to take out a second mortgage!

-

Thanks, Frank!

And sorry for all the typos! I wasn't even aware that an HDMI to component converter existed! Though between a cable and the converter box it looks like it'll set me back 90 bucks or so. So, it may be awhile until I spring for it. Since an extra battery and bigger CF cards are now on my Amazon wishlist since I got the new camera. Oh, and not to mention a 10-22mm lens!

Looks like my CF card just makes the cut. It's an "Extreme" rated at 30 MB/sec.

In any event, looks like it'll be a little while until I can take a gander at that HD video!

Too Pretentious?

Thanks for the advice guys. On another note, does anyone know where I can get posters printed up fairly inexpensively? I looked over
at Kinkos/FedEx and they are more expensive than what Nations Photo Lab is charging me for prints!
