1.
Wow! How far this topic is going uh?!
William, I just wanted to ask you one more (hopefully last!) thing. Hehehehe
I forgot to mention to one of my clients, how long it would take to delivery the final results, and the amount of pictures... So, guess what... They just called me asking for the pictures for TODAY because they are leaving tomorrow to the US. And I didn't even made the first selection because I'm still working on the other wedding... But for the other one I asked for 10 days. I explained that I have a online gallery with password that they can get it there soon. Ok...

But, they want all the pictures!!! He said (a bit stressed) that he knows that it doesn't cost me ANYTHING! And I said that it does take me a lot of time to edit all the photos and that time is money... And I delivery only my selection.

So, I want to make a contract... I didn't have one, didn't even thought of it... I'm looking online to have a idea of how to make it. But I'd very much appreciate if I could have some opinions here, I don't want to make it to much because they are never gonna understand... But I was thinking about putting the hours of coverage (on my first job I worked 6 hours more than I should, but its ok, because I kind of wanted it just to learn more about their traditions), the number of pictures delivered, the payment, the deadline delivery... Is there anything very important missing?

I'm really thankful for all the help that I'm getting here!
2.
First of all, thank you all for helping me!
Well, I'm thinking of some decisions to make, based on the experience I had and the advices I got here.
First, i'll discuss the guest issue with the bride in our first meeting. I don't mind doing the guests, but the problem is that because we didn't have anything arranged, I did 2x! One at the table, and them one with the couple.
About the weight of the gear, I also use a think tank bag, so I was resting the camera like on top of the bag. But always holding the camera. But I'll definitely do some exercises and maybe use something to help. (My right arm is already completely different from the left one, I have visible bigger biceps since I'm using this gear).
Great article about the missing the shots William, have you ever missed some key moment in a wedding? I'm so afraid of it... It is such a big responsibility to freeze these key moments that are so important for the couple...
I'm thinking that I'm not gonna be so attached at quantity of photographs right now, because I'm just starting and the traditions here are different. But I'll definitely try to reduce as much as I can every time, because its just too much work to do after, and I'm a bit lost on the workflow with that amount of photos to organize, and I use Aperture and for some pics Photoshop. So its driving me crazy here. Plus, I'm really feeling the pressure of making sure that I have it backed up safely. So, I won't tell you how many gigs between photos and backups and final ones that I have. I'll let you imagine it...
For backup camera, I have to be honest about what was in my mind: "Ah nothing is gonna happen." BUT, yes I have a Panasonic GH1 with good lenses that could do the job, at home tho. I thought that if anything, somebody could bring it to me in 5 min. But, I had 2 flashes with me all the time (sb900 and sb800). Because of the over heating issue in the SB900 (I did the upgrade, but it was overheating all the time and I didn't want to damage it). And it was very handy.
I can't imagine myself carrying more things in those small spaces with so many people squeezing me all the time... Do you leave your backup camera somewhere specifically? Or you carry it on you?
=D

Thanks one more time

 3.
Great William!
Thank you for replying!
I'm just here in front of the computer, editing the photos, OMG, there is no END! I don't want to do it again, seriously... It was also because they were my first ones, and with all these traditions, I didn't want to loose any moment...
There was a lot of slow moments, really, but in these moments the guests start to ask for photos, one after the other, there were some guests, that called me take a pic of them with every other table (both weddings had around 250 people)... And now I feel in obligation to delivery these guests photos, because they are gonna ask see it. From what I'm seeing, on the wedding that I took more than 2000, I think that I'll delivery minimum 800. Because they are full of guests with other guests and with the bride and dancing, and this, and that... =/

(and also, even trying to be a invisible spy, there is to much attention at me, because its a very small city, and they had never seen a camera like that, and I'm like a zoo attraction for being the only brazilian here)

=)

 4.
Hi Masters!

I finally started to work as wedding photographer, I had 2 events last week.
I live in Albania (but I'm brazilian) and here they have many, many traditions in the weddings.
So, I ended up with 32G of photos, more than 2000. (it was a dinner/dance in one day, and the other day from 1pm to 3am).

My first question is:
Is it normal to end up with that many photos? What is the average of photos taken and how many to deliver to the client?

Second:
Do you guys shoot all the guests (on their tables, or with the couple)?
Because they had like 3 hours of traditional dances, where small groups of guests dance at the center of the place and the bride and groom stay in their seat watching. At this time I went and took photos of all the guests at the tables. But after they also started to ask for photos with the bride.

Third and last one:
How to say "NO, I'm on my break!" I had to go to the toilet to take a break, because everywhere, even when I was changing cards or batteries they were poking me asking to take a pic... And I took...
(Plus I use D700 with 24-70mm and a SB900 = more than 2kg, I couldn't sleep well because of the pain)

I'd appreciate a lot any kind of help!

Many, many thanks!

=D

 5.
Hello everyone!

I have a Nikon D700, and I found out something really strange, I can't understand what is going on...
I shot some portraits yesterday in "monochrome" and they looked great on the camera. But today, when I put them in the computer, they were in color!
I couldn't believe, and I made a test, I shot the same thing with the four color options that I have in the camera: "standard, neutral, vivid and monochrome". My surprise:
They look different in the camera, but when I put in the computer they are the exactly the same thing (using aperture, Iphoto and preview). But the strangest thing, is that my thumbnail in Aperture were with the color presets! But when I was clicking one by one, the thumbnails changed for the same color again.

Does anyone knows what is going on please? I refuse to believe that that function in the camera is just to have a preview of what you can do with the picture in post... I'm sure I'm doing something wrong...

Thank you so much!

 6.
Hi Devon
I tried to shoot with white sheet and I didn't like the results. But I had my subject a meter away from the background. I've been researching after that experience, and my conclusion is that I should have positioned the subject further away from the background.
Paper backdrops... I wish I could use it, but it would be very expensive to ship it here. And it gets dirty, crumpled... So I'd have to replace it every once in a while...
Thanks Devon!

=)

 7.
Thank you Nathan!
I already have the stands for the backdrop, I've been researching about the backdrops for a while, and didn't read very good reviews about the muslin for white backdrop... So, if I can't use the paper one, I'd like to use the vinyl, since it had very good reviews, specially for high key effect.
Ill keep looking online, I've been looking in the UK because I use to live there, but I'll try somewhere near by, maybe Italy or Greece, it would be cheaper to send it here I guess.

Thanks!

 8.
Hi there!

I've been photographing for 1 year only, did couple of courses, and now I'm starting to work as photographer.
I'm building my studio, and I've been looking for backdrops these days, and as I live in Albania, I can't find this kind of equipment here.
I'd like to use the paper backdrop, but it would be very difficult for me, so I decided to get black velvet, and white vinyl to start.
I found white vinyl in a shop, I think people use this kind of vinyl for tables, curtains, etc. But I don't know if it would be the same as the vinyl backdrops that you buy in the photography shops.

Does anybody know anything about it?
I probably can get it sent here from somewhere else, but it is quit heavy, and consequently it would be expensive. I'd rather get the one that is available here of course.

Thank you very much for helping!

=D

 9.
Thank you so much Matt!
I'm reading more about the monolights, and I'll definitely go with them, since one of my main needs is to be able to light evenly a white background for high key.
The prices are a bit more than expected for the really powerful ones, but from what I've been reading, these Alien Bees are really good for a reasonable price. I don't have a big budget for the lights right now, and I'm basically between 2 deals, I'd appreciate so much an advice from a pro, because I don't want to regret after!
So the 2 options crossing my mind right now are:

A kit with 3x 300W, that comes with soft box, umbrella and filters, you can check it out here:
(http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/900W-STROBE-STUDIO-FLASH-LIGHT-KIT-LIGHTING-SET-3x-300W_W0QQitemZ170470893546QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Photography_StudioEquipment_RL?hash=item27b0db67ea#ht_2463wt_1167)

OR

2 Alien Bees (I'd try to fit in my budget the B800) but nothing else. (I have 1 stand avail, 1 soft box, 1 umbrella.)

What would be your advice? Would the Alien Bees be that much better than the kit, that makes it wort it?

Thank's in advance!

(By the way Matt, I just felt in love with your work! I tried shooting dogs couple of times... But it wasn't successful... just could get the moment+right settings at the same time at all!)

=D

 10.
Thank you Hector, I'll research about this book.

Thank you Matt!
I'm using a Nikon D700. I want to do portraits, fashion, children, pregnant.
I'm very surprised to know that the flash units don't have the same power as strobes. I actually thought they would have more power.

Thanks one more time

 11.
Hi there!

I'm not a pro photographer, I'm very far from it, but I'll get there! So, I still have so many doubts... I'd very much appreciate if someone could help me, one of my doubts is:
I'm using a Interfit kit EX150, 2 strobes (1 umbrella and 1 soft box), my dimmer wasn't working, I had no control of the light at all, so, I decided to open the light and try to fix it, and of course, I broke it.
So, I'll have to get another one, but I was thinking to use a SB600 instead of a strobe, so I could sync it on high speeds if I want.
I already have one SB600, and i love it. So, if I get another one, I could use them with the soft box, umbrella, and also try some other effects...
But i actually never see any photographer using flashes instead strobes... i'd like to get an advice about it.
It seems a stupid question for me sometimes, because, as far as i know, the strobes are "flashes" right? But I just want to make sure that this logical makes sense.

Thanks in advance!

 12.
Thanks everybody for helping!
I decided to give a little upgrade on my equip, I was thinking to get a kit: shooting table and 2 more lights (the picture below has 4 lights, but I'd get only 2).
Also, I just lost one of my strobe lights, I had a problem on the dimmer, I wasn't having any control on the light, I tried to open it to see if I could fix, but I just broke it and got a electric shock...
So, my boyfriend told me to get another SB600, and use it with the soft box and umbrella. Would it be the same as having the strobe lights? Would it be better? Because I don't really see people using flash instead strobe lights...

Thanks in advance!

00WGh4-237499684.jpg.88a4a9e3587f2071813b691c93f68df0.jpg

 13.
Hi everybody!
Sorry to bother with this subject again, but believe me, I've been trying to achieve this effect for a very long time...
Well, I want to get into product photography, so that is essential for me. Im using a Nikon D700, I have a Interfit EX 150 kit (2 lights, 1 umbrella and 1 softbox). I also have the SB600 Nikon flash.
For this photograph, I had the lights about 2m from my subject, on the sides. I also had 2 sheets of tracing paper on both sides, very close to my subject to soften a little more the lights, since I was getting very hard reflections.
The back looks actually cool for me, but the from the front or lets say the "floor" and specially in front of the mayo, its so grey... But how could I light there? Because I liked the way that the subject is lit, I don't really want to throw a front light, also because of reflections on the brand, etc. And mainly because I'd have only my SB600, which would only work attached to the camera, since I don't have a trigger, and they don't sync with the other lights, so I get a bit limited on where to put the flash.
I tried to remove the background on photoshop, but it just don't look right. It looked very flat. Maybe I'm still doing something wrong generally speaking.

Thank you so much for helping!

(And also, sorry if my english is not correct, I'm brazilian)
