1.
Hi Everyone! Thank you so much for all the inputs, comments/critiques and advices with regards to my photos. I have since bought the II version of this lens and... and yes, Rob... I've bought a monopod as well :) A superb lens indeed! and I'm looking forward to go out (as soon as I get rid of this flu!) and to take more photos. Practice... practice... and more practice that's the only way, I guess.
Enjoy the rest of your week, guys! Thanks again.
Best regards, DANTI.

00XrGP-311479684.thumb.jpg.dec0c63211f84fef0d00a5472b0eace6.jpg

  2.
Hi Mark Atwell! I thought by setting it on Tv I would be able to control the shutter speed.... hence I could decide when I want to freeze a movement or create a bit of movement, although honestly, many times I didn't really get the effect that I wanted anyway... and at some point, I accidently switched off the AF button on the lens and wasn't able to focus at all. I got really panicked and tried to figure out what went wrong (and obviously in the meantime I lost so many good moments)... I only solved the problem almost 15 minutes later when my husband (who - I thought - doesn't know much about photography stuff) told me to check the AF/MF switch on the lens :)) I felt quite stupid! I do have a lot to learn. Thanks for the advice... I should put it on practice in the future.
Here another photo that I'm quite happy with the result.

00Xqh7-310961684.thumb.jpg.98d2f19f3da1677a04a0555bc777cfdc.jpg

  3.
Hello again everyone! About 1,5 months ago I posted a question here asking which the right lens for indoor ballet/dance show. I was thinking at that time of buying the II version 70-200 f/2.8L lens and thought of renting the older version of 70-200 f/2.8L lens for my daughter's dance show as a try-out (as the new version wasn't available for rent anywhere yet).
I have since received many useful responses and advices (which I appreciate very much!) so I thought of sharing some photos from that dance show here in this forum. Any comments, critiques and advices are welcomed. All photos were taken handheld (without tripod as I was sitting among the public and not enough space to put the tripod). Yes, my right upper arm and elbow were quite sore after holding this lens throughout the 3 hours show. As I mentioned earlier the lens I used was the older version of 70-200 f/2.8L with Canon 7D. I used mostly Tv mode (and Av mode once in a while) with high ISO.
Best regards
4.
Hello everyone!
Actually I am not sure whether to post my question in this section or in the Practice & Techniques Procedures. In about 3 weeks time, I would like to take photos of my 14-years old daughter during her annual ballet show. This show will be held in an indoor theatre and it will be dark most of the time during the performance, except for some stage light... and obviously the use of camera flash is strictly forbidden.
With my EOS 7D I have "only" 10-22mm, 50mm and 24-105mm so I am thinking of renting (specially for that day) a 70-200mm/f2.8 L IS lens. I have been thinking also of buying the II version of this lens so I think it will be a good idea to try it first for this ocassion. However, I am not sure if this is the right lens for this condition of photo shooting.
I would be very grateful if anyone can advise me what will be the best lens to use to take photos in a indoor dance performance like the one I am going to and if there are other important techniques I should apply to be able to take good photos.
Thank you and warm regards.
5.
Hello again everyone!
I have read over and over again all the responses I received. They all have been very useful to give me more information in order to decide which lens I should get at the end. My conclusion before buying the 70-200mm lens is that I really must try and hold the lenses myself before deciding :)
Someone brought to my attention about having a big white lens does not really make taking candid photos easier and I absolutely agree with that statement. As such, I wonder if anyone here can give me some inputs or performance information about other lens (similar to the 70-200mm with big aperture) made by other manufactures than CANON, like Sigma.

  6.
Hello again everyone!
I just posted a question a few days ago and with the help of the nice people here in this forum, I have solved my problem. Thanks again.
Now, I have another question about Canon lens 70-200mm f/2.8. I've been thinking and saving some money in order of to get this lens in the future. However, I still have a few doubts about it.
First of all, I never really hold this lens personally and I have no idea how big and especially how heavy it is. For a woman, 160 cm - 53 kg, do you think it will be a lens too heavy to carry around. I have EOS 7D and the lens I use most of the time is 24-105mm plus the 50mm f/1.4. I mostly take photographs of people (specially children expressions) and sometime landscape as well. Although those 2 lens do quite a good job and I have had many good photos using them, I'd like to be able to take the photos in a more candid way and not having to come to close to the subject. Plus with the aperture of F/2.8 on 70-200, I think I will be able to throw away the background even more. Do you agree that the 70-200 will serve me better in this sense. Or is there any other lens that I can use with that purpose in mind, other than the 70-200mm? I prefer lenses with big aperture.
Second doubt is about which version of 70-200 lens I should get. Whether the old 70-200 f/2.8 without IS or 70-200 f/2.8 IS I USM or even the lattest II version? What is the fundamental differences between the I version and the II version beside the price? Is it really worth and justify the price to get the latest version?
Looking forward to have all the useful advices and to clear up my doubts about this lens.
Thank you all in advance!

  7.
Thank you everyone for the responses.
@ Dan Bloch - I will look at it on my 7D manual as soon as I get home.
@ Puppy Face - if that's the case, how can I enable the shake 'n bake via CF? Could you please tell me the procedur step by step?
Thanks again!

  8.
Hi everyone!
I need some advices about the auto sensor cleaning on the 7D. My understanding was that each time the camera is switched on, it should appear on the monitor, the (auto) " Sensor Cleaning " sign which means that EACH TIME the camera is on, it does the sensor cleaning automatically.
However, I noticed since yesterday that when I switch on my 7D camera, this "sensor cleaning" sign sometimes does not appear on the monitor/screen. Is this normal? or does it mean that my 7D already has some problem doing the auto sensor cleaning? or? Is it something that I should worry about? and I should have my 7D controlled?
Looking forward to all your valuable advices and thank you in advance.

  9.
Hello everyone! Thanks again for all the inputs & responses. Greatly appreciated.
At the end this is what I've decided. I've ordered EOS 7D :D It should be on the way now. As for the lens, I've decided on these 3 :
Wide Angle/Landscape EF 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
General Purpose EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
Portrait/Street/Sport EF 70-200 f/4L IS USM
I hope I am making the right decision here :D Even on the crop body, I think those 3 above should cover the whole range of my photography styles.
The only problem now is to decide which lens (1 or max. 2) to get first as my budget won't allow me to get all 3 at the same time.
Decision! decision! decision! :)

  10.
Hello again!
After posting 1 question (7D and its essential lenses) and reading many (!) 7D & canon lenses related discussions and reviews on this forum, I am seriously thinking of getting only 2 essential lenses (but from the L-series) with the EOS 7D that I plan to buy. I am not interested on going FF for now (or in any immediate future for that matter). One of my considerations for getting L-series lenses are for their weathersealed. I would like to go out and taking pictures without worrying that a little bit of rain, or snow, etc will ruin my lenses. As 7D is said to have a very tough build and weathersealed as well, I think it would be even better to have weathersealed lens to go with it.
I would be grateful if anyone here could give me their opinions (or if they have already used) Canon L-series lenses on 7D (cropped body). The 2 lenses I have in mind are 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM (or 17-40mm f/4L USM) AND 24-105mm f/4L IS USM (or 24-70mm f/2.8L USM). My main interests are portrait, architecture, landscape and street photography. Will these 2 lenses be sufficient for those purposes? What are the pros and cons?
What about if I wanted to do macro photography, does it really necessary to have a special lens only for Macro... or any of those lenses I mentioned above will be good enough?
Thank you in advance.

  11.
Thank you everyone (once again) for the responses. I will definitely consider all the advices/opinions to make my final decision. As I am new here, I just want to say what a great site this forum is. I found many great photographers and I have gained many useful knowledge from it. Grazie mille!

  12. @ Mike... Actually, ignoring everyone's advices to get a Canon DSLR, I decided to buy Panasonic Lumix GH1 coz I was

attracted to its rather compact size and its film function. However, after using it for awhile and many photos taken, I

realised that I've made a "mistake". Its lens 14-140mm (equal to 28-280mm) doesn't really satisfy my photography needs

and eventhough recently Panasonic announced 3 new lenses specially made for G/GH1, the selections are still very limited

and the prices are quite high (Ex: a 7-14mm f/4.0 cost $1100 and 45mm f/2.8 costs $800). So I thought, instead of buying

new lenses for my GH1, I want to sell it and buy EOS 7D instead (with the lenses I mentioned above). What do you think?

  13. Thank you so much Mike, Phillip & Martin for the responses on my question.

I found all the responses very useful to make a better decision on what type of lenses I really need.

However, I don't have any plan to go FF so I am not sure if it's worth buying the L range lenses.

  14.
Hello everyone. I'm thinking of buying Canon EOS 7D (body) with the following lenses to cover all my photography needs. Please let me have your opinions if these are good choices for its respective purpose or if there are other better options.
General Purpose lens : 17-55mm f/2.8. Macro lens : 60mm f/2.8 (or 100mm f/2.8)... which one is better?. Wide angle lens : 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5. Telephoto lens ?
Thank you.
