1.
Lex
All ratings are "SOMEONE'S OPINION" for that photo, that was your statement a few years ago,how come you are concerned with the ratings and the NO of photos all of a sudden.
Instead of writing essays about the rating system and the lack of good photos in the forum why don't you take a camera from your big collection of equipment and use your vast knowledge of photography to shoot some masterpieces to boost the no of photos in the forum. You are the GURU of photography after all.

Line
Are you stalking that member?
From your rating history i remember you attacking the whole of the front page with 3s and 4s several times,in one month 3 years ago you dished out 3500 4s indiscriminately (you probably rated every photo in the forum with a 4 that month without even looking at it).
You rated 1700 photos and you made 1000 comments most of them on your own images.
So how fair is your participation on this site?
Were you trying to get rid of the opposition with your behaviour?
Why do you think you are a victim of bullying and ratings attack?
Your rating record by the way you can't deny, it's all in PN's records.
This is a SHARING site, you get what you give,no one wins any prizes by being in the front page, you get views ok but no prizes.
And lastly, the administration has left the site in the hands of 10-15 idiots that chased the good photographers away with their ratings.I can't understand why the didn't make a change to the rating system, some good photographers might come back before the site dies.

 2.
Panoramas should be shot with the camera in portrait orientation ( tall image). That way you have less rows of photos and less distortion. The pano head is not needed unless there are close subjects on the frame, the pano head is mainly useful because it has clicks for auto overlapping that makes life very easy.i agree with the above comments that professional dedicated software works much better than PS,I personally use Arcsoft Panorama Maker,Is very quick, needs less RAM than most other software and it stitches cylindrical, mosaic and normal. And it does all that on auto, you click on the first photo (RAW or JPEG) and lines up the rest automatically.

 3.
Hi Michael
Once you go into individual categories the forum changes from last 24 hrs to recent (which means images from the last 4-5 days),the critique forum is the same as well.
regards
Harry

 4.
What browser are you using?
I had that on Firefox a couple of weeks ago,it's a virus downloaded when i tried to update Adobe Flash player and i pressed the wrong button.
If is Firefox delete it and all it's preferences and install google Chrome,Chrome does't seem to be affected by the virus.
Look also in the control panel what programmes were updated in the last few days ,delete them and reinstall them, run a scan as well with a very good antivirus.
Good lack

 5.
Lex...... I can see the name of the TROLL in my images and i can see all the 1's and 2's in his ratings.
What puzzles me more than anything is WHY someone is rating old images that were shot 7-8 years ago with clunky 3 or 4 Mpixel archaic cameras now, when we have 24 and 36 Mpixel cameras?
And more, the ratings of the individual image are affected but not the photographers average.
And as i am arguing with the biggest human encyclopedia (who 7 months ago didn't know that 1's and 2's count) i am probably wrong.

 6.
Michael...If you were to ask the previous administration how the rating system worked they were going to tell you off and mark you as troublemaker, till now most members don't know that 1's and 2's count. When they changed the system i complained that they left the older images open to abuse, the answer i got was " Whatever rating you get on the older images is someones opinion" take it and shut up.
The new administration promised a new rating system, that was a year ago, wait and see.

 7.
Michael,The ratings sum is not just as simple as you think, there is an algorithm in place since they introduced 1's and 2's about 3 years ago.If someone rates your image 1 or 2 that does't show in your ratings it ,does't affect the rank of the image but it affects the average.Probably only Jin knows how it works. How do i know this? Some idiot who appears on PN twice a year rated about 80 of my older images with 1's and 2's.That made me investigate the rating system.PN has the worst rating system of all photo sites but on the other hand is the most interactive. If you want views you have to make friends, followers, that will look at your photos and comment or rate them or post only masterpieces... :-). Gj Since most of the European photographers left the site,i see mainly American names in the ratings,i would't even call the site international,it's probably 80% American.

 8.
Hi Ilia
I use a sigma 150-500 and a Nikon D7000 for bird photography for about 2 years now,i went through what you are going through now for more than a year, my original failure rate at high magnification was about as high as yours. That dropped to below 10% now.I followed the advice of the top bird photographer here on PN " MONTE STINNET ",his advice was practice , practice , practice.Send him a personal massage or an email for advice ,he might be able to give you more tips and what equipment to use.The EXIF data is readable, your settings are perfect.Best regards,Harry.

 9.
500 mm on DX is a whopping 15X magnification, your shutter speed should be above 1/1500 of a second, some of the images you see as out of focus are probably camera shake and the rest are due to shaky hands if hand held due to the combined camara-lens weight, the camera is doing it's job at focusing but missing small targets like birds and focusing on more contrasty areas in the background..the more you practice the better you will get, good luck,Harry

 10.
I just got back from a safari in Kenya,January or August it's always summer in that part of the world. All game drives are early morning or late afternoon when the light is good and the animals are active,a UV filter won't make much difference except keeping the dust out, lots and lots of dust ,take good cleaning equipment with you and don't change lenses, enjoy your trip,Harry

 11.
Hi Bob ,i feel for you,a trip of a lifetime and that happens. It did happen to me on my old D80,i shot around 100 photos on the wrong WB on a photography trip but i had the raws to correct it.I have a D7000 and i disciplined myself now to change settings looking at the screen with the INFO button,if you are older and shortsighted the top lcd is useless. You can still open jpegs in raw in PS and try and correct the colour cast.I am off to kenya tomorrow and wish to take a photo of a cheetah as good as yours, good lack

 12.
The members so far involved in this thread are not going to give you an answer why there are so few comments and ratings, they already highjacked the thread and they are talking about" cheetos".The reason there are so few comments and ratings is that the PAYING members who supplied them are gone.WHY,several reasons, ratings abuse, authoritarism, never listen to what your customers want, neglect, let the site run and it would sort itself out.thinking backwards instead of forwards, keeping rules and ideas from 4-5 years ago while the photo community industry move hugely forwards.

 13.
A photo needs 3 ratings to enter the forum and 5 ratings to show the average and the names of the raters,it should really read "Not enough to SHOW average yet". You are a very old member GJ, But lately there are so few ratings that made it very noticable
