I have a 1DS MkIII and bought the grid screen. I really like the points of reference that it provides. I use it for composition and to keep horizons and buildings straight. My vote is for you to get it.

No, I did when the 1Ds MkIII came out, but I bought it and relegated the MkII to backup or second body service. The MkIIII doesn't grab me. Besides, need to amortize the purchase...

I have a 1Ds MKIII and wouldn't trade it. This being said, if I had a 5D MKII I certainly would not consider the 1D. Your camera has better resolution and a full frame sensor. Additionally, from what I have read, the 5D MKII has better noise control at high ISO settings. You'd lose all those benefits and only gain weather/dust protection. Actually not even sure that I would go from the 5D MKII to my camera....

I have a full frame camera (1DsMKIII) and simply adore my 85 1.2. If you are choosing between the two lenses you mentioned AND don't mind the cost, the 1.2 is miles ahead of the 1.8, it is my favorite lens. You said prime lens, but I will throw this into the mix as well. I have a 70-200 2.8 IS that I sometimes use for portraits as well. If you have one or can borrow one, you might give that a shot, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised and may end up with a dual purpose lens.
