1. I requested an account name change using the link one is supposed to use for that purpose; the requested name change was never accomplished.

When I returned to the link to send a second request, thinking the first must have been overlooked, instead of the form to

complete that I had seen a few weeks earlier I was presented some text informing me that I had already changed my

account name, and was therefore precluded from doing it again.

Perhaps my first request is "seasoning" in an mod/admin's queue. Not a big deal, but not confidence-inspiring, either.

  2. You will likely be granted a judgement in small claims court. While a judgement is better than nothing, your new

challenge will still be compelling your (then) judgement debtor to pay up. You may have to take additional legal action to

secure payment; such actions include attachment of earnings, ordering sale of certain assets, etc.

In the end, you may have to make paying less painful than not paying, which is a trick.

  3.
Thanks Ian and Boris. I am going to give a firmware update a try, and if it doesn't work, be glad the Pilot works as well as it does with the D700, and wait until they catch up to the D7000.

Boris, the Pilot works a treat the way I use it, which is to fire two Trios. It does that very well, but I need to start taking advantage of the QTTL capability, because I keep having to re-learn everything if I don't use the Quantum gear often enough. Quantum kit is far from intuitive, isn't it?

I usually just have to re-set everything and start from scratch.

The Trios don't work properly when mounted directly on the D7000, but the D7000 works perfectly with a SB900, naturally.

One of the reasons I put up with "Quantum Quirks" (and the expense) is the quality of light I get with either the bare bulb or wide-angle (dome) diffuser. I also love the Quantum batteries, which I can use on my Metz flashes.

So, I will look for that firmware & update this thread as I learn. Thanks again.

  4.
Greetings from foggy Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England.

Just acquired a new D7000 body, and decided to try it out with my Quantum Pilot remote commander and two Quantum Trios. My Pilot continually failed to trigger the Trios, though it was communicating with them. I RTFMed, thought, experimented, and then called Quantum. The gentleman on the phone was very helpful and knowledgeable, and ran me through a number of checks, reset the equipment, and were then mutually stumped.

We decided that I should try the setup with the camera that last worked, my D700, and you can imagine the rest. The D700 worked like a charm with the Quantum system, as it always has done.

My question: Has anybody encountered specific D7000 settings that I could change that might make it work with my Pilot? I haven't tried the D7000 with a Trio actually attached, but plan to do so.

My Quantum helper will also be following this, so please dish.

Cheers.

  5.
Hi Harry: Good grief.

I am probably too nice to my gear, and even then I don't like delicate equipment. It's just another thing to think about--a distraction.

As regards the Bogen "support", I have not gotten the opportunity to use them yet, but I'm sure I will. When I called Bogen to ask my dumb question, I came away with them impression, fair or not, that the operation was just a little amateurish. (Example: One subject matter expert, and when he's out, you're out. Of luck, that is.)

In stark contrast, I had an issue with one of my several Quantums and was able in minutes to speak to a real person who knew what she was talking about.

<end rant>

  6.
Paul and Mark, thanks very much. I've the manual on file now!

I just invested an additional 30 mins trying to release the lens. Continuing mission, as they say.

Paul, I could use links to the pics.

I get the gist, but haven't been able to push against the little lever. I have an unmounted lens next to me, and it seems that it takes more "oomph" to depress the little lever on that than a paperclip can muster without bending.

  7.
I just Googled around for some threads that might help, but couldn't find what I was after. Apologies if this is somehow redundant.

I am running a new Metz 76 MZ-5 unit on my D7000, and I am getting consistently blown-out shots using TTL. It doesn't appear as if the SCA 343 dedicated module is enabling communications with the camera at all (no indicators in the camera's control panel, as are usually seen when my SB900 is attached.

It could be a faulty dedicated module, but I am poking around to see if it is user error. I RTFM, cover to cover in fact, and wasn't able to determine a way ahead.

It appears that my settings on flash and camera are proper. I just called the support number at Bogen, and their man is out for a week. I will call him when he returns on Monday if I can't figure it out before then. Thanks in advance.

  8.
"So you asked a similar question in 2001, but have kept using brackets? I'd say if it works for you, why question it?"

(Here is the post Ms. Nadine references from 2001, where I "ask a similar question": http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?topic_id=23&msg_id=001Cdt)

Again, I use a bracket in situations where using a bracket results in better images than not using one. I was as interested in the group's reactions to the Flickr thread as much as the feedback. (Is there a way to turn off responses from salty mods?)

  9.
I use an RRS flash bracket along with a Quantum setup for portions of receptions and sometimes if it is a sit-down dinner afterwards, but this Flickr thread (http://www.flickr.com/groups/weddingphoto/discuss/72157623405352610/) featured some disparaging remarks about brackets, so I would be interested in your thoughts and practices.

(The reason I sometimes use a bracket is because frequently the receptions are held in rooms with very tall ceilings, and I can't control peoples' proximity to suitable walls for bouncing. I have tried a number of card-bounce type flash apparatuses, with marginal success.)

  10.
Thanks for the informative answer, Paul.

When I use large Elinchrom heads in a studio setting, I do of course meter, adjust, and all that with everything in manual mode, but I had a thought to use these highly portable Trios in a very hasty manner, i.e., quickly & spontaneously throwing them on clamps above or lightstands near a dance floor or stage at a wedding, performance, or event, and then firing away from whatever vantage point I can get (usually standing on a stepstool I've hauled along for the purpose).

I suppose I will have to decide how often I might do that and, as you wrote, decide whether the QTTL and enhance remote capability is worth the investment.
