This one doesn't do much for me...I can't tell what's happening and I'm confused rather than intrigued.  Looks like a nice night with the fog though.

I'm from the area but never made it out to the falls.  Awesome shot.

For me the light on the grass above the falls is too bright.  My eye goes there, to the most boring part of the photo, instead of the falls below or the sky above.  I'm not an expert, but I'd look for a way to darken that or draw attention away.

Thank you again for this second round of instruction. I find both of the charts very helpful, and the explanation in the first link has clarified a lot of the other reading I have done which describes that relationship, but not in full detail as this link does. I will continue exploring the limits of my camera and plan to get another which allows more full manual control when I feel ready and will have enough time to experiment.
  1. I like this photo and the comments above helped me understand why it was appealing for me. I also like the way the shadow of the light pole interacts with the railing to form more geometric shapes.

I am learning about composition still and curious to your thought process making this shot. Can you comment about the presence of the white object in the upper right corner? Was this in your mind also an essential part of the capture, to match with the other whites of the curb and lamp post?

Thank you so much for the comments!

The ISO setting was 400, not auto. I don't know why it is so grainy. Point well taken about sizing the photo to width of 680 pixels before uploading, but this one looks a bit grainy at all sizes unfortunately. Could that be a result of my 'tripod' technique and the long 6 second exposure? I set my backpack on the ground and then my camera on top of my backpack. Or just my point and shoot camera perhaps, although it doesn't look so grainy in the daylight at ISO 400?

Does AE mean exposure compensation, same as EV? If so, is there any reason to use it in a long exposure shot like this where nothing is moving too much? I got the exposure right by playing with the shutter speed, moving from 1 second up to 10 seconds. I suppose I could have gotten a similar result with a faster shutter speed and some exposure compensation, correct?

I haven't paid attention to the clock in my camera, it must be broken. The photo was taken at about 10:00pm.

I have the free account version of photo.net at the moment and was using this photo to see if the feedback would be worth a subscription. I will seriously consider it after such thoughtful feedback - thank you!

I am new to photography and this is one of my favorites so far. Taken

on a night with a nearly full moon, I thought the lights coming up

through the low clouds was unusual and interesting. I have been

reading and learning but have little experience - please critique

harshly with suggestions, I would love to improve!
