<p>I used a Nikon LS2000 for B/W and found out that Silverfast and (more importantly) multiscan (16x) gave better results. It is however clear that the negative grain will show if the resolution is fine enough... </p>

<p>A late response from someone who is not an expert:<br>

I have some experience with the Nikon LS2000 and just got an LS9000 with which I just scanned 1000 Kodachrome dias (The reason I got the LS9000 since I only used Kodachrome) Only a small percentage of scans need to be adjusted: the flare problem mentionned above and some blues which oversaturate and look fluorescent... (I have not yet found a recipe for those...)</p>

 

<p>Nikon distinguishes between firewire with 4 contacts and fireware with 6 contacts (I did not know there were two such beasts) and mention that the scanner only works with the 6 contacts fireware (with mention of possible damage if one uses the 4 contacts socket) is it possible that your PCI card has the wrong socket? I had no problem whatsoever with the instalation...<br>
