Thank you all for your critiques.  My intentions were to "fade" the focus towards the old timer (my dad).  I am not very good with photo editing software and I certainly understand the problems with the way the black and white looks.  Again thank you all!

Wow Len, seeing just the few changes you made makes that picture sing out!  I HAVE to learn photoshop.  Thank you so much for the awesome insights.

I love this website because any old hack like me can get some great info from some of the best in the biz.  I'm always in amazement at some of the photos that I see on this site.

My grandaughter was sitting on my steps with a light coming through

the window. So I grabbed my Canon 40d, 100 mm macro and captured

the moment. I'm just curious if I should have had a reflector or a back

    light?

This photo was taken in June of 2010 using a Canon 7d with a 70-200 mm

f2.8. Aperture was f2/8, shutter 1/1250 and ISO 100. Please feel free to

be as critical as you need. I am trying to learn to be a better photographer.

    Thank you

I could have cropped it a bit more but I was zoomed in as far as my 18 - 135 kit lens would allow.  I purchased a 70-200 f2.8 over the weekend so I hope to get a bit closer next time.  Thank you sir for your critique!
