1.
hi, i just want your opinion regarding my situation.

i've just sold my Nikon D7000 kit lens (18-105 VR) due to back focusing issues i had with it in some of my photos.
now im in a dilemma on what equipment should i choose to buy with the money i earned. i currently own a Nikon 70-300 VRII lens. im choosing between an external flash (nikon sb-700 or nissin di622 mkII or the yongnuo 565 ex) or a prime lens (nikon 35mm f/1.8dx or sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 os hsm).
these are the discipline im into:
> street photography
>portraits
>family occasions (weddings, birthdays, corporate events) which is most likely i'd want to do next year to help me with my income.
>some macro, landscape (minor only)

SIDE BITS
> my budget is on par only with the money i earned in selling out my kit lens (though i could stretch out by adding it up to $50-100)...but depends on your suggestion.
> i have a friend who is willing to lend me her nikon sb-910 (which im not so sure if its convenient enough to attach and carry with my nikon d7000)

thanks for your faithful and honest opinion...

 2.
thanks for the responses, i highly appreciate all of your professional opinion. what do you think of these pair for my field of photography i mentioned above? please share me your opinion...

Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM + Nikon D7000

Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 + Nikon D7000

Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM + Nikon D7000

this is so far i could forecast about my budget...thanks!!!

 3.
@And and Owen: thank you for your response. i was just a bit confused although i was leaning towards the D7000. i was just thinking if there is really no noticeable differences with those areas i mentioned above then i would just go for the D90 and save the rest of the money for great lenses other than the kit lens provided...

 4.
hi guys, im choosing between a Nikon D90 and Nikon D7000 but i just want to be practical. if most of my shots would just involve landscape, street photography, people at their candid moments, parties and events, and some macro and wildlife..., (i dont shoot sports that much, it requires a hefty lens)
would the 39 AF points of the Nikon D7000 a huge advantage over the 11 AF points of the D90?

i would like to invest on lens but im just wary that if this feature affects the quality of sharpness on my photos regardless of what lens i use...
would the D90 be enough? is the D7000 too professional for me?
what else should i consider aside from the number of AF points?

thanks so much for your professional input...!

 5.
hi everyone!

I'd be getting a DSLR this coming September. Im choosing between these two: Nikon D90 or Nikon D7000. Do you guys have recommendations on what lens is best for each to exploit their sensor resolution. Please do indicate if they are expensive and or cheap so i could forecast my budget.
Im into street photography, events, some portraits, nature and landscape. Third party lenses are welcome provided you really recommend them.

thanks so much guys!

 6.
hi guys! i currently have a Nikon D5000 but i'll be upgrading soon to a Nikon D90. i just want to ask on which of the two would be a great lens for Street Photography:
Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 or
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8

or if you have other suggestions, please feel free to comment here please..

thank you so much for your professional opinion!

 7.
thank you for the overwhelming response.
one big reason i want to upgrade to between these two bodies is that i find it hard to switch controls over my D5000 rather i have to use the info button to get to my ISO, WB, shutter release, metering modes and the rest. i dont have complain with the image quality of my D5000, its superb. plus i cant enjoy primes without built in motor as the D5000 doesnt have a motor to run them that's why i was considering this 2 bodies. the coverage of the viewfinder of the d5000 is small too, lately im having eye strains already after a day of shooting.

 8.
hi there!

im from the Philippines and i currently own a Nikon D5000. i have been planning to upgrade my camera body in the Nikon line up. im in a dilemma of choosing whether i'll get the D90 or the new D7000?

i know that the D90 has been tested by time and that the D7000 is a new player but in demand in the market. also, the D7000 is mostly ranked as "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED" in most photography sites. so far its only www.cameralabs.com has rated it just fair with only a "RECOMMENDED" rank.

here in my country now, the price of D90 is dropping compared to the asking price of the D7000. although im not in a hurry to buy an upgrade but i can save for the D7000 since im only getting it on Dec 2011.

so is it worthy for me to get the D7000 or should i just stick with the D90 and just invest on lenses? im really having concerns with shooting in low light with my D5000 using the 18-55mm VR. i also tried the D90 using the 18-105mm VR and still get unfavorable photos in lowlight. shooting up the ISO would be my last recourse as i dont like noise in my photos. ive read that the D7000 has clean shots at higher ISO's.

please help...

thanks so much!

Does your camera require AF-S lens ? or will it auto focus AF lenses ?

i think so. it doesnt have a built in body motor so it wont focus on non AF-S lenses but its okay....most pro photographers i know use the manual focus control on their masterpiece

 10.
Would I still get a good picture with the 55-200mm from a reasonable distance?

here's the catch between the two lenses. the 70-300mm is very good for portraits or street photography where you can take spyshots to people whom you want to take in their candid moments without the guts of telling them. but the only thing is, its very pricey.
now comes the 55-200mm VR. take note, they are both VR, therefore, very useful. what makes the 55-200mm VR great is that you can make it as a "walk-away lens". its a very good partner of the kit lens 18-55mm VR. i mean you can take snapshots with it even on some limited space. the 70-300mm VR is quite hard to be "walkaway lens". eithere you or your friends should be a distant away in order for them to fit in the frame...
www.cameralabs.com says that the 55-200mm VR has similar focal range/ratio equivalent with the 70-300mm VR. the only difference between the two is that the latter is pricier, build quality is better, it has a SWM (therefore, faster) while the former is cheaper, light (i once brought the 70-300mm VR with me the whole day, my hand suffered so much strain. take note i just mounted it with a Nikon D5000 like you which is lighter compared to a D300, 700 or D3S.

the choice is actually yours. don't be fooled by the "macho looks" that the lens will project in you but look for that will give image quality in your photo...

 11.
2-3 months from now i will be buying a prime lens for my Nikon D5000. i currently own its kit lens, the 18-55mm VR. i would like to know from you, which of these two prime lenses from Nikon is better?
Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 D or Nikkor 50mm F/1.4 D

im more into portraiture, some wildlife and macro photography. what i like to take photo more is about animals like bird, cats and dogs. i love the bokeh of these two lenses.

i know that both lens wont autofocus on my Nikon D5000 but i dont mind, i love my camera. im also budget constraint, i cant afford other lenses which are more expensive than these two.
But if you do have some other suggestions that will deliver the same both optical and image quality with these two lenses that are within the price range, please do suggest. i will be willing to consider them.

Thank you for your professional opinion.

 12.
hi guys!

I just want to ask your expert opinion from your experiences with these cameras. I'm planning to buy a new DSLR maybe by Dec this year and Im choosing between these two, Nikon D90 and Canon EOS 50D.

I have read both reviews from Ken Rockwell to Cameralabs and from other sites as well. Both were given very good reviews. Now, I just want to know your experiences from these two to help me consider which one to buy. Im looking for a camera which is worth keeping for the rest of my life to the point i wont be bothered in buying another one in the long future. If you have other recommendations other than these two, please let me know to consider too...

Im in to family photography, special occasions, portraiture and sometimes moving subjects. Im also looking with that with a fast AF and good in low light conditions plus a good grip for comfort-ability in handling it.

I've heard that the price of 50d is falling due to competition with DSLR's with video capability. So which do you think i could save more between the two?

thank you guys! hope to hear from you...

 13.
hi guys!

just want to ask this thing. today i went to a shop and bought a UV filter. i got good reviews about the hoya 52mm HMC UV-0. i decided to choose it to add on my new Nikon D5000. but when i went to the shops, its either it wasn't available or the price quoted was too high.

i went to a shop, asked about it (SalesMan asked me to wait for 5-10mins, i dont know if he will look for their stock of it or unto something) but he ended up recommending the 52mm Kenko Pro1D UV filter. they said its better than hoya HMC (reasons are its thinner compared to Hoya HMC, therefore no haze, its easier to clean coz its not multi coated). so i ended up buying it.

it was quoted at $45 but SM gave it to me at $30....

Now my question guys are these:

1 Did i made a good buy or a "goodbye" on choosing the kenko over the hoya hmc?

2 Did i end up being duped by them on the price quoted and the quality of Kenko?

...Please help me guys! enlighten me on this to ease my wearies....

PS...i bought a UV filter because its highly recommended in reviews to protect your camera sensor against the harmful UV rays and to protect your lens too

...i tested the kenko Pro1D this night and observed some ghosting light on my D5000's viewfinder and Live View but not on my picture...

...can you use a UV filter at night or do i need to remove them? so sorry for asking this if its a stupid question, this just proves that im really a newbie....i'll be testing it tomorrow noon at a Chinese garden and try to see its effect....

thanks a lot guys! hope to hear from all your good opinions....

 14.
Hi guys!

Im from Singapore, tropical country which climate is hot most of the time. Now i willl be buying my first ever DSLR this December, a Nikon D5000. Now, what curious on asking about is that do i really or badly need a dry cabinet to store and take good care of my DSLR?

dry cabinets are not that cheap you know, although there are some which are not also expensive. but do i really need them? im in a budget constraint also. Im not making photography as a profession but a just my interest and hobby?

do you have suggestions about this? please help me guys. if you have a recommended brand for a dry cabinet, please suggest that which has good quality but budget friendly.

thanks guys!

 15.

How much would it cost if you get the set now?

the last time i asked (i think 3 or 4 weeks ago from Cathay and John) the unit price plays between S$ 1150 and 1170. The kit only includes the 18-55mm VR lens with one 8GB and a lowepro bag as freebies for their promo.
when i take a view at clubsnap, the price of 55-200mm VR is at S$ 330.

regarding the extra batteries on the ad above, it might come in handy for me (although i havent tried using a DSLR yet) coz i dont know when is that time that i need more shots.

regarding the tripod, i have a remnant tripod from my Sony DSC-H5. it looks like Nikon Tripod SL168 as mentioned above in the ad...

regarding the lens (55-200mm VR) since im new still to DSLR, i dont know but it might come in handy although i dont have a specific use of it as of now.

all im jumping for into this is the bundle price of the two lenses in a kit at such bargain price.....but i havent decided yet to buy it. i just informed the owner that im interested....

thanks alvin!

 16.
yes, i will be paying in cash....im really saving for it. that's why i keep posting on questions here asking about DSLR's as it would be my first....i just want to make sure its a best buy....the last time i bought a camera (a Sony DSC-H5) i really regret it. it was brand new when i bought it. but just after months the camera still runs (playback) but no images either in the viewfinder nor in live view, all but dark so i cant take pictures...
thats why i dont want my Nikon DSLR to be like that....

thanks Alvin...im still considering that ad above i got from clubsnap because of the two lenses for just the price of S$ 1300 with tripod and 2 batteries. do you think its a best buy alvin considering the gear is still 2 months old?

thanks! i would appreciate to hear your opinion on that....

 17.
to alvin:

if i buy a dslr from shops here in singapore like in funan or Cathay....are their prices with GST already or still not....coz i might be surprised if the price they gave me when i inquired was still without GST....

thanks guys!!!

 18.

Also just FYI, if you are buying stuff above 350SGD or 400SGD (check the customs website) you will be hit by the GST on imports, I remember having to travel all the way to Paya Lebar just to pay the gst and pick up the camera. GAH!

really? what do you mean with the GST? is that if i purchase with ebay and adorama? coz i contacted the person who's selling the gear, he is a local here in singapore. does that mean customs will spank me with GST too with him?
thanks alvin!

yes, that ad is from clubsnap....i ask here just for opinions. to check if its a good buy according to your profession.

 23.
Hi guys!

Do you have any idea how does a Nikon D5000 compared to a Canon EOS 450D? Particualrly in the following areas:
a.) image quality
b.) shutter lag performance
c.) low light and night conditions
d.) over all performance

I was pretty convinced already with Nikon D5000 and will be buying it this December 'till I saw this Canon EOS 450D. By the way, is it an entry level DSLR (Canon EOS 450D?

Thanks guys! I will really appreciate your response.
