Hi,
I took photos on July 9, and thought that I had backed them up on my hard drive, but didn't. Then I reformatted the card and took pics on it on July 16. I used Photosrecovery last night and was able to recover a lot of the photos. However, I took them in RAW format (.CR2), but the images show up as TIF. A few of the TIF files open in Photoshop, but a lot of them don't. It gives me a message saying that ' Could not open this TIF because of some compression' (Sorry I can't remember the exact message).

So my question is how can I open all the TIF files? How can I get my RAW files back (and not TIf)? Any help would be much appreciated! It's a CF card (San Disk Extreme 3).

Thanks you,

how about new zealand? beautiful landscapes there. Africa - Morocco is very colorful - great markets, people, scenary. Kenya/Tanzania - safari. What about Vietnam, instead of Thailand. Maybe Burma? Indonesia, Malaysia....just throwing out some places I've been and places I'd like to get to someday!

I would put it towards a photography class.

No, this won't reset the camera. If you want it back to the factory settings like when you first bought it check on the buttom of the camera body. There should be a button to reset it. Or check in the manual how to reset it.

Go with the 60mm. Because I just ordered this lens on Saturday and can't wait to start using it :)
I think for portraits the 60 will be better than 100mm, just my opinion.

Barefoot Contessa has some new england tours in the fall. I think you can also arrange a private tour with them.
Also, you can google these two photographers. I know lead different photo tours of the US: Jerry Courvoisier and Eddie Soloway.

Great pics! After doing some research this weekend I agree that I do need a car.
Which tows do you recommned saying in? I'm considering staying in a few different base cities from where I can explore the surrounding area. I'm thinking about staying in Avignon, Vaison La Romaine, Apt, and Aix en Provence. Any suggestions? Would you recommend staying put in maybe 2 locations as opposed to 4-5 (I'll be there for 2 weeks). Most all the places I want to see are in David Henerson's post above.

Thanks!

Excellent! Thanks for taking the time to reply and providing this great information! I just picked up a few lonely planet france and provence books so I'll be researching all these beautiful places you've recommended.

Hi All,

I'll be traveling to France for two weeks at the end of June. I wanted to know if someone could recommend a circuit or route that would be nice photographically. I'm looking for lavender and sunflowers if they are around that time of year. Landscape scenes, small streets and cafes. Can anyone recommend some towns to visit. Do you recommend renting a car to get around or can you take the train? I will be flying into the southern region and will probably be ending the trip in Nice.

My friends are interested in a cooking class too, if you have any recommendations for that too.

Thanks!

I like 21.
I think there is too much 'dead space' in a lot of the photos. The sky in most of the shots was plain - nothing too interesting in the sky and it's almost 50% of the picture (except in 21). I would say to work the situation next time. The fisherman shot look like they are taken from the same position.

Thanks everyone! I see now that lensbaby might be more a novelty. I'll look at proper macro lenses.

John, I like your idea. I don't have a 50mm. I currently have the Canon 24-70mm, 10-22mm, and the 200mmf/2.8.

ICP - international center for photography in NYC has a one-year program. I think they also have a campus in the Netherlands or somewhere in Europe. I'm sure you can google it.

I shoot with a Canon 40D. I'm interested in a macro lens and was wondering if people have any opinion on the LensBaby composer and the macro kit. I've never used the lensbaby. I would want to shoot flowers, nature, maybe people.

Thanks,

I used to have the 17-85mm lens and used in in many of the places you are going. II wasn't happy with the lens. For me, it just wasn't sharp enough. I now travel wth a 24-70mm, 10-22mm, and a 200mm and it works for me. Enjoy the trip!!

i've taken a fwe classes at ICP and they are great. Really get your money's worth.

Instead of buying all this new gear, why not rent it? It's an awful lot of money if you're only planning to do one wedding.

I used a wolverine device to transfer my pics from the CF card so that I can keep reusing the cards.

when i'm broke.
the lens i have with me at the time is what makes it complete.
i wouldn't say it's a collection. More like I have lenses that cover what I like to photograph. I have the tools to do my job (or hobby). So if something new comes out that i think will be an asset and great addition to my toolbox then i'll get it. I haven't bought any lenses since last year. Sure there are lenses that I want, but i don't need them.
it's like asking, when are u done filling up your garage with tools - well if a job comes along and i don't have the right screwdriver, then i'll be going to home depot.

I agree with Allen. Bring it. I carried a 200mm f2.8, 10-22mm, and 24-70 f2.8 to china and hong kong in november. I mostly used the 10-22 and 24-70 in shaghai. But I used a 200mm for a lot of people pictures in Guilin - I'm a woman, small frame and weigh a dollar and 15 cents.

Thank you all this is great information! I'm gong to do a bit more research on the setups mentioned here before I buy something. It's been really helpful.

Thanks! This is what I needed to know. I don't throw money on something only to find out it's not cutting. I'll look at the price of the alien bee's monolight. I'll also look into the strobes. T

Hi All,
I'm want to set up my first studio in my basement. I have a white backdrop that i've set up. I need to get some lights, but i'm not sure which one to get. The basement is fairly big, unfinished (cement wall) and has a very tiny window. There are two light bulbs in the ceiling (one on each side of the room). I've been looking at the Photoflex first studio at B and H. It's about $200 and includes:

500 Total Watts

2 Flood Lights, Reflectors

120V Bulbs, Umbrellas, Stands

I wanted to see if ya'll have any recommendations.
I shoot with a Canon 40D and have a 580 ex ii flash. I want to take pictures of kids and adults (portraits).

Thanks!

I've gone to classes at ICP in new york and it's very good. I would also recommend Sante Fe Photographic Workshops, Maine Media Workshops. There are a few in Florida and California as well. I would say the best thing is to to find a photographer whose style you like and look them up, they probably offer a workshop.

HELP! file recovery only gives me TIF
in Canon EOS Mount
Posted

Clark - i think it depends how many times you deleted the card - for example - I have used this card for years and takens 1000's of photos with it, however the recovery only gave me the current photos I took on that card, plus photos from previous days shoot (that I had deleted by formatting the card). It didn't go back and get me years worth of photos.
So if you're looking for your last shoot or the shoot before then it might still be on the card. I downloaded Photorecovery (photosrecovery.com). I also read some people had success with CardRecovery.com. If it's a Sandisk card they also have free recovery tool that came with it. Good luck! I'm still in the process of getting my images back - I got a good chunck of them back, but still missing lots. Hope it works out for me. Just google - memory card recovery and you'll find loads of info and products.
