1.
Look at a map. Then figure out how much time you can afford to spend on regional flights versus on the ground shooting. Then figure out where that will allow you to go. Mexico's a big country and the most interesting stuff is a long, long way from Mexico City. Frankly, you're better off hub-and-spoking from someplace like Merida or Guadalajara.
Check my website, www.wordsink.ca, for some Mexican material that may give you some ideas.

 2.
well, we'll see how it looks fixed. I'm hopeful it will prove a good lense, as I say, because of the Dyxum reviews. The seller is willing to credit me the cost of the repair when it's done and I can e-mail him a copy of the receipt. Seems he deserves his stellar rating on Ebay.

 3.
Yeah, I read that review-- but the reviews of it on Dyxum.com, THE Minolta/Sony users' site, are without exception very positive. Just got a phone message on return from an out-of-town trip, with an estimate from the repair shop-- $134. So I'll definitely get it fixed.
And see if I can get the guy who sold it to me to refund that amount off the price.

 4.
I've actually sent two e-mails to the seller and have been ignored. I don't think the camera is having front or back focusing problems, since my prime lenses shoot nice and crisp.
My Minolta 100-300 APO behaved exactly like yours, Oleg. Great on film, soft on the DSLR (I started with an A100 and am now using an A700). It got traded in along with another soft lens, to get the Sony18-250 which is working great.

 5.
I thought I'd found myself a gem on Ebay (yeah, yeah, I know-- but the seller is a camera store in Hong Kong with a 100% buyer approval rating).
Instead, I got a Minolta 100-400 APO that shoots soft through its entire range, at every aperture, at shutter speeds up to 1/1000th, in bright sunlight, all on tripod and even using the two-second shutter delay on my a700.
It's in the shop now for a look-see, but I'm wondering: could it just be something as simple as an element getting a tad misaligned during shipping (the box looked like it had been dropped on three of four corners from a bit of a height-- you don't crush thick cardboard that easily).
I suppose I'm just looking for reassurance that this lens can be saved while I wait for the free estimate on what's wrong and what it will cost to fix.

 6.
Heartland Travel in Winnipeg, Manitoba, handles packaged polar bear viewing trips to Churchill at very reasonable prices, and you will never get closer to polar bears or see as many bears anywhere else in the world, as you will this way. google for their website.
