Hey did you ever offload that NVS1 equipment? I always wanted to get my hands on one.
On a side note it looks like Norm Stuessy passed away in 2019 :(

Hey I've been reading about these Li-Ion replacement batteries - but I cannot find a link to whichever website has them for sale - any info appreciated thanks

Thanks guys I'll look into the mentioned products.

Richard - thanks Al Jacobs "Black Box" is what I was thinking of as a replacement battery pack/system. Anyone have any info or reviews on how well these work?
Victor I would do it myself but the thought of a soldering iron and... yikes!! :)
JC/Peter/Craig - thanks, I'm going to contact them and see what they offer, price, etc.

I always thought Lumedyne was more expensive?

Thanks all.

Cancel last message, returned the wide for the slim, using the hood, ok.

Thanks, I returned the wide-angle for the slim filter, using the (very shallow and probably useless lens hood now as well.

Use B&H photo (bhphotovideo.com) for all your purchases, they are the standard for professionals and consumers alike. If you search any of the forums, this is the one you will see mentioned over and over again.

They also have the best prices for each item (sometimes a few dollars below Amazon), have everything you could possibly want, good shipping, good return policy), etc.

I just bought a 7D and a bunch of other stuff, and it came to like 30 dollars less than Amazon.

I've heard variations on "clean with a soft cloth" - any particular recommendations on brand/material, a mild cleaning solution or none? q-tips, etc?
I just want to make sure any salt water vapor is off the exterior of the body
(not looking for sensor or lens cleaning tips)

Thanks

I've got a Quantum Battery 1+ which is totally dead, despite charing, it does not power the flash (and yes, the flash works fine checked with 4xAA) and does not light up except when charging.

I know I've seen several times that people can replace the dry-cell battery inside the unit, and I recall reading about a guy who makes his own similar battery packs and sells them (from his home business I think?)
Does anyone know where I can go to get a new drycell (I am NOT a soldering and electronics kind of person) to replace the battery, or else the link to the guy's website? Sorry I can't remember his name or anything.
Thanks

Sorry to jump on here but I figured my question kind of pertains. I just bought the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 which has a small petal type hood and an 85mm front thread.

I purchased a "wide angle" UV filter (please no discussion on whether or not to actually use a protective filter) which attaches via the 82mm threat, but flares out (no pun intended) to a wider front thread of 95mm. I then planned on attaching a "thin" 95mm polarizer or other filters as needed.
Of course, the "wide angle" filter does not allow the lens hood to be used. I think the lens hood looks rather pointless in terms of protecting the lens except for flare. It doesn't look deep enough to really protect the element itself from physical interaction. (ie putting the lens down on a surface)
So, my question becomes, should I keep the "wide angle" filter, and use 95mm front filters and not use the lens hood? Or should I return the "wide angle" filter, and just get a 82mm"slim" protective filter and then use another 82mm polarizer as needed, and NOT use the hoode?
Thanks!

I just purchased the Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 lens, which has a filter size of 82mm.

I ordered a B+W 82mm "Extra-Wide" UV filter, which in turn has a front filter size of 95mm (yikes!!). Now, that UV filter seems rather thick, despite flaring out to the larger diameter.

And of course, the problem is, the darn lens hood won't work with that filter in place. (Much less the supplied lens cap, but that's cheap to remedy).

So, my question is, am I better off replacing the 82mm "Extra-Wide" filter (B+W company) with a regular 82mm "slim" (or regular) filter and being able to use the lens hood? Or is there a lens hood I can get to attach to front filter (but that can cause vignetting, I guess)

I don't know if I can return the filter to B&H, since I already opened it, or what, because I'd hate to be out all that money for one I can't use. Anyone know what they would do in a case like that?

And has anyone run into a similar problem with the newer ultra-wide lenses, and how did you solve it?

Sorry this is years after this post - but I was curious - to film the scene with the photo blowup (in High Anxiety) they must have created that giant sized blowup in real life, right? Anyone have any idea how to find out what happened to that photo? Like, if they saved it in a museum or stored it or something, or just destroyed it? I have no clue how to even find info about it. I've always had this dream of owning it LOL.
