1.
Yes I am just now learning to use HTML and then I will try and get into Dream weaver...This stuff takes some learning. I almost inclined to just hire someone to make my webpage. If wasn't that I so short of cash right now I would, so we do what we can...

  2.
Yes I have plenty of photos to use.. I will put my own images up when I get everything on the web page just the way I like it. As for the cards Officemax does not give you an option to use any images but there own... So I use what is in the template...

  3.
Ok I got me a web page check it out it is a bit rough but I think it works.. I have posted elsewhere on the forum requesting a critique of my page I hope you all take the time to check it out and give me your feedback...

  4.
Is Minolta still in business of selling cameras and lenses. I thought Sony bought them. Someone is selling a Minolta MAXXUM 5D Digital camera - SLR - 6.1 Megapixel Does such a thing exist... The price is $850.00 with a Minolta 18-70mm. Is this a good camerqa I used to really like Minolta back in the day...

I think the layout works quite well and I like the lower case in your name it is different. I am trying to decide on a new business card myself. The photos you choose just don't seem to work with the layout. You need something more eyecatching.. You got the layout down you just need a better graphic...

  6.
No this is my fulltime business and that is why I am thinking of going to a webpage and get rid of Flicker and Exposure Manager altogether. It would be nice to have everything in one easy to use site. I guess I am just old school and I am not completely sold on the idea as a web page as my main store front per say. I know the times are changing and I have to change to keep up...
Paul and Laura can you send me a link to your sites so I can check them out... Also the blog idea sounds relly good any other information on this... Like what exactly is a blog...Isn't a blog and a web page the same thing...

  7.
Ok here is a question I have been thinking about for some time... Should I get a web page? I have been photographing weddings and little leaque sports going on about two years now. I have many wedding bookings done with lots of happy clients. I have been using a picture hosting web site Flicker to showcase my images.. I also use exposure manager for my e-store where I sell all my prints from. Having these two seperate sites prebent problems unto themselves, but that is for another discussion though.
I have been thinking of getting a web page done, I am thinking of the cost to return on investment aspect. A good wedding page to set up is between 1500 and 3000 dollars and then there is the added cost of maintaining it and hosting it. I do not have a retail business as I work out of my home. I have talked to a lot of people in the business some state that their web page has more than doubled their business and others say it was a complete waste of money only reason they keep it is for the tax write off at the end of the year.
Can some one share their experience with a new webpage and if it is worth the additional investmant or not. Did it improve your business and if so by how much...

  8.
Believe it or not I do not have a web page. I do use e-store fronts like exposur manager to sell my prints on. I just have not gotten around to setting up a web page. I have heard mixed things about web pages some say it is a the best thing they did others state that it was a waste of money...
I guess my question is this... Is a web page worth the added expense of setting up and maintaining.
If so what is a good starting point to set up a web page.

  9.
I have reached a point in my business where I need to generate more clients and expand my customer base. I get quite alot business through referrals also.

My question for the board is how do you go about generating more business? Do you work the shows which I have not done yet. Do you buy lists of clients looking for photographers, do you network with vendors.
Any help would be appreciated.

  10.
John,
I still believe you are not quite correct about this...
Here is a real word event...
A number of years ago a famous Action Movie Star was photographed on a public beach here in Miami, Florida wearing a speedo with his oversize belly hanging over the speedo. A local photographer that worked for the newspaper here in Miami photographed him and ran it as a stand alone filler photo for the paper with just a caption stating who the star was and what he was doing etc... This famous action star tried to sue the newspaper and the photographer for publishing the photo without his consent... The star stated it showed him in a bad way with his fans ( Iguess the who belly hanging over the speedo thing does not do an action star justice) and he wanted damages and an apology etc... Well the newspaper would not budge on the subject and stood behind the photo running and their photographer who took the picture. The paper stated because the photographer took the photo on a public beach with the star on a public beach there was no consent needed by the star. The Court here in Miami Dade heard the case... The star said he had an expectation of privacy because he never gave permission for the photographer to run the photo or the newspaper to publish it. To make a long story short, the court ruled in the favor of the newspaper because the photo had no expectation of privacy because the star was on a public beach for all to see.
The reason I bring this up is because the photographer involved is a very good friend of mine so I was able to follow the case.
So if your explanation is correct why did the Miami-Dade court system rule in favor of the paper and the photographer and not the movie star.
Lets just agree to disagree on this subject shall we friend

  11.
Here are two examples one you can use the photos one you cannot
Two examples:
1) You are on the street and you see your favorite movie star getting out of a car or eating in a public cafe outside. You can take all of the pictures of them you want and publish them anyway you see fit as long as you are on public property and your subject is also on public property.
2) You are on public property looking over a fence at the same movie star sitting on a louge chair by their pool on private property. You can not take their picture and use it for publication without a release. The reason being your subject is on private property...

  12.
As long as the photo graph was taken in a public place it can be used. I will refer you to this site.
This is from the publishing law center.
http://www.publaw.com/photo.html
Guidelines when Publishing Photographs of Individuals

Because there are many nuances to the right of privacy and publicity laws it is advisable to always obtain a written release from any individual that would be recognized in a photograph.

Obtain a release even if the individual's image will initially be used for a newsworthy purpose in the event that you may want to use the individual's photograph for other trade or commercial uses.

Don't forget that if the individual is a minor, you will need parental or guardian consent.

Make certain you caption the photograph correctly.

Be careful when cropping a photograph that you do not alter the context in which the photograph was taken.

If you decide to use a photograph without a release make certain it was obtained without trespassing on private property, that it does not violate an individual's right of privacy or publicity or that it is protected by a First Amendment use.

Releases are generally not required from people who are identifiable in a photograph of a street or public place, provided that the photograph is reasonably related to the subject matter and the identifiable people are not the focus of the photograph. An example of a permitted use would be a photograph of the Rockefeller Center Ice Rink that was used to illustrate a book about Rockefeller Center or about New York City attractions, even though many people may be identifiable.

Do you really thing photojournalist stop and as for permission of the photos they take for their Newspaper or the professional sports photographer runs out on the field after the game with a release form to use the athletes picture in publication...
Study up on the law... Unless your area has different laws you can use the photo taken on the street for your business card.

  13.
I think it is a issue more of lighting than anything else what was your shutter speed.. I have the HSM version of this lens and it is very fast in focus and tack sharp.

  14.
Well that is not correct I shoot alot at ISO 800 na 1600 sometime I have to push it to 3200 all with good results...
I am manily interested in switching to prime lenses... Why do so many people think that the D1x Series cameras are so old and outdated that they are no good anymore... I will keep my bodies thank you...
Still need advice on the 35mm lenses though
