Stunning detail in the chest feathers. Never seen anything like it!

This March has been great at Corkscrew Swamp; low water levels are
shepherding the critters right up by the boardwalk. Now that we've
left, though, I hope for the birds' sake that they get lots of rain!

Heading off to Colorado for some photography, I got great advice on
Photo.Net. Here's one result!

I got within about 20 feet of this youngster, perched in a tree alongside a
busy suburban street. It was dining on some small creature that's just
out of sight on the far side of the branch; I suspect it would have flown
away but was reluctant to drop lunch.

A nice moment along Wildlife Drive in Ding Darling National Wildlife
Refuge, Sanibel Island FL

To me it looks more like an immature (first-year) Black-crowned Night-Heron. (See p. 65 in Sibley's Guide to Birds, if you can get your hands on a copy.)

A beautiful shot and a beautiful subject.

Cute! This a ground squirrel. Pikas are grey, no stripes, plumper. Look a bit like a rabbit with short ears.

Agree; she's adorable and it's a great photo.

A lovely shot, Alexandra. In my experience it's pretty unusual to see a male and female swimming this close together.
