1.
I found your choices to be slightly limiting. I would go with the Nikon Coolpix 8800. It's got a 10 (read it, TEN!) times optical zoom, a tilt AND shift LCD, and, as quoted by DPReview, it's "a very attractive package with good image quality".

I say set it up on the timelapse feature on a tripod and you're good for the day!

 2.
Benson Galguerra !!!! I am both laughing hystarically and mad at you because as I was scrolling through the examples, I thought, HEY! For a laugh I'll half-heartedly paste Brad Pitt as my example, and not even two pictures later you claimed the glory.

Hahaha, very fun XD

 3.
Through a bit of research I've answered my own question, but I thought I'd post it here if anyone else had the same issue and was looking for an answer.

This video describes what they're used for, benefits, etc: VIDEO LINK <-direct link to video 18mb

Page with link to download calibration profiles for Lightroom 2.0+ (fixing saturation rendering from Nikon cameras to lightroom - or at least that's what I use it for): Labs.Adobe

I hear with Lightroom 3.0 they've greatly improved the rendering, but it being in beta I'll wait until maximum stability.

 4.
Some big name responders above me :O

I bit the bullet and offered the initial couple of weddings for at-cost (so essentially no more than $100), and of this came the beginnings of a wedding portfolio. From there I suppose it's the same game for everyone: increasing your prices to what the market will allow, every step of the way honing your craft and expanding your portfolio.

I would also suggest getting in contact with some of the photographers in your local area. Offer your services for dirt cheap (i.e. minimum wage), but sign a contract allowing for use of the photos.

And when first developing your portfolio, less is more. If you walk away with 15-30 amazing shots from 2-3 weddings, don't show 50-100 mediocre shots. Quantity vs. Quality seems to be a hot topic in these forums and the wedding industry as a whole right now, but it terms of your portfolio Quality will always win.

 5.
Hello everyone! I recently formatted my computer but forgot to save the calibration profiles I had added to Lightroom. They had assisted in retaining the saturation (primarily warm colours) in the imported photos from a Nikon camera, much more so than what is provided by Lightroom 2.0. For those of you who shoot Nikon and use Lightroom, do you know of where I can find additional Calibration Profiles to download? If not, do you use the default settings or have your own home-brewed formula?

Thanks!

 6.
Very sorry to hear your tale. Unfortunate indeed. I usually have fun with these kinds of people, putting them in their place. Keeping it civil, or course.

If you are ever in the Ottawa area, I would love to offer my services free of charge for an afternoon of shooting. I realize this can't replace your wedding photos, but at least you'll have some respectable photos :)

 7.
Hey Missy,

The exif for Jasmine's photos in her blog is somewhat sporadic - sometimes it's included, sometimes not, and sometimes only certain info is provided. I use Opera explorer to read it, simply clicking on properties. A few recent images that may interest you are:

http://www.jasminestarblog.com/images/content/ACF49F.jpg - 5DII with 50 1.2

http://www.jasminestarblog.com/images/content/ACF9D.jpg - 5D @ 800 ISO

http://www.jasminestarblog.com/images/content/BlogShannonMatt0026.jpg - 5D @ 1250 ISO

I wasn't able to find any pictures with the 5D and 50 1.2 in my quick search, but if you dig deeper, who knows. It seems as though her recent posts don't retain the exif as frequently, perhaps deliberately, I'm not sure.

I find it very helpful when the exif is retained - gives you an inside look on how a photo was created. And with someone as popular and amazing as Jasmine, this can only be beneficial! Good luck with your decision :)

 8.
The only experience I have with this would be by Jasmine Star. Generally the pictures in her post retain the meta-data, and I review it often. Jasmine shoots with the 5DMII and her husband (JD) the 5D (perhaps not exclusively, but tends to be that way). I realize from a web-optimized file it's difficult to determine a camera's value, however there seems to be very minimal differences - I do notice a slight increase in noise with the 5D.

I would rent both, and decide from there! Or better yet, ask Jasmine! Since she has all 3 items (5D, 5DII, 50mm 1.2 L), she should have great insight on this debate :).

 9.
Hello and thank you for your insight!

I've been hitting these forums hard lately with questions, so I appreciate 100% all the effort everyone puts in :).

I have a client that would like to purchase my services for someone else as a gift for their wedding (I have amazing clients! :) :) :) ), however doesn't want that person to see a price (as it's a gift), so I was wondering if there's a way around this.

I live in Ontario, Canada if that helps any. It was my understanding that contracts that don't have ANY compensation were void. Could I refer to payment in an abstract sense, such as:
"payments will be made in full by mr. XXXXXXX, by such and such a date, total amount which can found in "Contract XXXXXXXX", by signing this contract, it is acknowledged that you have reviewed "Contract XXXXXXXX"."
Whereupon I can draft up a separate small contract exclusive for the payment of the original contract?

I was thinking of putting some insignificant dollar figure on the original contract to make it legal (such as $1), however this doesn't seem right in case of dispute of payment.

I realize this may be better suited for a lawyer (or a legal forum!), but thought perhaps someone else has experienced the same thing.

Thanks!

 10.
I found myself this month with a great amount of inquires (12 in a month), and came to wondering what is normal in terms of new inquires from potential clients? Perhaps my 12 is nothing to gush about, I'm not sure!

Before you jump the gun and proclaim "inquires mean nothing, bookings are what matter!", I realize this to be true, but want to know about the average enquiry rate per month. I think this is something people may feel comfortable discussing, however actual bookings are a tad too personal for a public forum.

Or perhaps, what's the most you've ever received in a month? I account my increase due to a higher ranking in google (first page when searching "ottawa wedding photographer"), and more aggressive marketing on a few different websites.

 11.
While the technicalities aren't the greatest (distracting background, awkward crop), as stated in previous threads, content generally overrules. If you think the couple will enjoy the picture, why not?

PS this isn't exactly "new" though - I've seen it many times before.

 12.
Thanks everyone for the input.

I must say I have a fondness for small sans-serif fonts. Gets me every time. I made another version taking your input and increased the font size across the board. Nothing is under 9pts besides for "Genuine Passionate Beautiful", which is 6pts. "Ryan" is 10pts, business name is 20pts, and everything else is 9pts. I think it's fairly legible; I reduced the size on my screen to resemble an actual card and compared the font size with that of other business cards I have, and I'm at least on par or slightly larger for the most part.

Unless I was to move "Genuine Passionate Beautiful" somewhere else, I find if I increase it any more, it becomes too close to "www.seyeauphotography.com"

I think I would disagree with having engagements first. It's in order of specialty, not chronologically. Also it balances out more this way :).

So what do you think of the new version?

Thanks

00U3B0-158721584.jpg.adbd208114edcad80514070b9880baf2.jpg

 13.
I've noticed an inflation of business card critics, so decided to show you one I designed today. (this is posted in the business section as well, however for a different reason).

So what do you think? Is it integral to have an image since I'm a photographer? FYI I was thinking of making it plastic, with the white as translucent.

00U2hi-158367684.jpg.f87e847c4540f9c6b5979228bc19a079.jpg

 14.
Hello,
I've had the account "Ryan Seyeau" for a few years now, and recently made another account under another name, and without my instruction they merged and my account since 2007 has now been merged into this new one.

Is it against photo.net policy to have multiple accounts? If not, why/how did they merge?

If we are only allowed 1 account, can someone switch my name back to Ryan Seyeau?

Thanks,
Ryan Seyeau
