1. I have the Fuji G617 with the fixed 105mm lens. This set up has

worked super for me over the last years. I have no problems with

soft images or any "plastic cracking".The thing I like about thr Fuji

is that it is "reasonably portable".I use mine with a quick release

and a manfrotto flip head on a (heavy)Gitzo monopod. I use Fuji

400 slide film so that I have 200asa with the center filter. I

recieved super results walking around Venice Italy last year with

this setup. The linhof is quite a bit heavier (I think), and more

    expensive ;-)

  2. This is an excert from the Fuji owners manual.

"Your camera is provided with a 3-digit shutter actuation counter

in the bottom which will tell you how many times the shutter has

been used so that you´ll know when the camera needs

maintenence. It counts 10 shutter actuations as 1; that is, if it

shows150, the shutter has been actuated 1,500 times. After

reaching 999 (9,990 shots) it will return to000 with 10 more

    shots." Fuji GW690III page 13.

  3. Ok the answer is easy, I´m surprised it has not been mentioned, dump the girlfriend take everything , have a great time :?).....

But seriously, the fuji is a must, but I would consider a light monopod

eg. Manfrotto 276 with a flipflop head. depth of field is very limited with 6x9 and maybe one extra stop is a plus.

One other thing , I was in Italy many years ago with a Bronica SQ with a 80mm lens + Nikon 28-70 and 80-200. The 35mm have not been looked at since then but the B&W and slides I made with the Bronica are looked at quite often.

I took a Yashica T5 to Miami last year as a p&s option with print film, we ran out of film and I put in a Provia 100f. The slides were fantastic equal to the contax G1 I was also using.

My choice would be, Fuji with monopod and small table tripod, Yashica T4 and olympus P&S.

Have fun, take care, sorry about the girlfriend >;?)

  4. In September/October, I will be in Miami on a

photography/holiday trip. I shoot medium format, both 120 and

    220 films.

I would like to process the film in Miami/Miami Beach . Please

advise if you know of any first quality E6 labs.

Also, I am considering buying all my film in Miami to avoid the

usual airport hassles. Are there any pro camera stores that

would be well stocked with both 120 and 220 film?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

  5. Hi

Sorry guys I´m still on my soapbox. I had to look at the prices at

    B&H a box of 5 x 120 Velvia was $2 more expensive than a

normal profi shop here in Cologne but I can still push it lower at

a normal consumer store in the city. But each to their own. One

other thing, due to the size of Germany for example, you are not

all that far from a town or city. So my suggestion is the first thing

you do when you check into your hotel/motel is look in the phone

book, and if language is a problem go to the reception let them

do the talking. When I´m in the States its a greater problem with

film. If you are anywhere away from a larger town, no chance. For

example, when I fly in( larger city with airport) I always look in the

yellow pages for a profi lab(if possible), drive over, usually buy a

few films. But most important speak with the locals, tips for film

,locations etc. In all the times in the states I have only had one

bad deal where a lab developed my C41 in E6 or was it the

other way around! ;-) Have fun in Europe, make the most of the

    exchange rate.

  6. Hi

I dont want to complain , but I think you can buy B & W film in

Germany! ;-) I think with the $ as it is you should buy all the film

here, then you would not have to go through the Xray machine!!

Sorry Michael Meyer I had to have a dig, being that Germany is a

    Photographic 3rd world country...... >;-§

  7. I do not quite agree with Robin Smiths answer. I looked quite closely

at the Bronica, Contax and the Xpan at the Photokina. To compare the

Bronica with the Contax 645 is to compare a NikonF5 with a

Voigtlaender Bessa. With regard to the size of the Bronica to the

Xpan, the Bronica is only 155g heavier. The Bronica is 2.5 cm higher

but the Xpan is 2.1cm wider. The only problem that I have is the

format position. I find it strange to turn the camera in the vertical

position to shoot horizontal shots, but then again that is also the

problem with the Fujis. The slow speed of the Bronica lens I do not

think it will be a problem as one can use a slightly slower shutter

speed due to the lack mirror slap, or so I have found with my Texas

    Leica

  8. The Fuji is a great camera, dont get rid of it!

I saw at the Photokina a company that makes bellows for the Fuji, they

had them on display. I believe this company also makes bellows for the

Canham LF Camera (but don4t quote me on that).

They make all forms of bellows for almost every camera, enlarger made.

  9. Subject: Zeiss Ikon Ikonta

I have just picked up a Zeiss Ikon Ikonta foldable 6x6 523/16 (S/N V30717).Its fitted with a Novar-Ansastigmat f4.5:75mm lens with a Prontor-SV shutter. Lens seems to be coated(blue sheen when you look at it). Works fine and the slides are great. Can anyone give me any info on this camera.

  10. Re: FujiGSW690II & FujiGW690II Focus problems.

I seem to be also having problems with the hyperfocal focusing. I took some pics of a historical building in Bonn with the camera set up on a tripod and took a series of fotos at f:11,16,22,32. all were not in focus.I was around 300m from the building on a grass field. On looking at the slides somewhere on the grass there seems to be an area where the sharpness is there, but the building is unsharp. All were taken with infinity set to the markings on the lens for the f.stop.

    Any ideas?
