I've been working with the Epson V700 and the betterscanning dry mount station. I've done everything exactly how the instructions say. I taped the negative onto the glass tightly, cut my mask precisely, put the negative on the correct side of the glass, but to no avail. I still get alot of flaring around the edges, the picture may scan washed out or really dark. I can't seem to get the balance right. I've messed with different size masks, adjusted the height and everything in between. Does anyone have some experience with the betterscanning dry mount station and can offer me some tips on how to get the best scans possible? Thanks!

Thank you for your responses concerning the scanning of old negatives. Any suggestions on cleaning solutions that are safe for those old 1920's negatives?

I am relatively new to the field of negatives, slides and converting them to digital. My grandma has between 300-500 old 1920's era negatives, black and white, that she would like to have converted to digital. I have a scanner (Canoscan LiDE 80) that has a 35 mm film adapter but it obviously can't hold bigger negatives. Can I scan large negatives without a film adapter? Does my scanner have a built in transparency adapter, therefore making it capable of scanning them without any additional adapters? Any other advice or scanner recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

Scanning 110 negatives with Epson V700

I'm using the Epson V700 flatbed to scan 110 negatives (Instamatic) with the betterscanning variable mounting station. I'm scanning at 3200 resolution but the pictures are still really pixelated. Do I need a higher resolution? A different height with the mounting station? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!
