1.
One would have to assume that many of the "Old Timers" that frequent the forum, Kodachrome was a much used and loved film. It was my film of choice for so many situations in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. My usage dwindled as processing became so rare. With Dwaynes in Kansas processing ending, a wonderful era in photographic history has ended. Time and technology marches on.

 2.
I will pass on a tip concerning lense selection when you are just starting out. You have an excellent starting lens in the 50 1.4. Just go out and start using your camera with the 50 and after some shooting you will start to develop some wants based on your developing style and interests. Basically you will probably start to say to yourself that that image would be better if I had a wider lens. If so, you would go with a wide angle lens. If you are saying to yourself I would like more magnification and a larger image consistantly then you would want to go with a telephoto lens next. The most important thing is to just go out and shoot and enjoy yourself.

 3.
Thanks for all the opinions guys. all of the various variables I thought of were touched on here.
I talked with the repair person I use in my area yesterday who just happpens to be a longtime Canon fan just as we are. He has repaired virtually anything FD over his 40 year and still going career. His basic opinion was to keep the chrome breechlock version if I have both versions in the same focal length. His reason was basic durability. He repairs far more new versions than chrome breechlock. I realize others would have a different view and it all boils down personal preference at that point. Like I said in my original post I get along fine with either version and both work fine.
I still have a few lenses to go to catch up with Mark. I have 30 at this point. Every prime length from 17 to 400 plus extenders brings me out to 800. Plus several zooms. All are Canon. Favorites- 300 2.8L, 24-35 3.5L, and the three macros 50 3.5, 100 4, 200 4.

 4.
I recently inherited a boatload of Canon FD gear and combined with my own equipment has left me with a bunch of duplicates in lenses. I am getting ready to thin out my collection and would like to pose a question for the forum. For example I now have two 50mm Macro lenses, one the original chrome ring breachlock mount and one is the new FD mount. Both work perfectly. Which mount style would you keep? I get along just fine with either version. I am thinking in terms of ease of repair should it ever be necessary and long term value. I realize this is a situation most would love to have. Let the opinions fly!
5.
I recently inherited a 17mm f4 lens from my uncle's estate. This lens is a wonderful addition to my collection of FD equipment. It works perfectly and takes stunning and very unique images. The lens is definitely a first generation version of this lens as the AE aperature lock position is identified by a 'o' and not the 'a' as on subsiquent lenses. My question is would this lens have SSC coating even though there is no engraving on the lens stating so? The only identification engraved is 17mm f4. Any opinions from the forum would be appreciated.
6.
Greetings Mark, When the charger is plugged in the red charging light does not come on and the voltage measured is only 2.3 volts at the pos and neg contacts. The voltage should be 16.8 at 95 Ma. One of the electrical wizards at my work checked this for me and suggested the possibility of the universal charger. Since he is not familiar with the camera circuitry he was not certain if it would work.
Thank you,
7.
I just recently inherited a ton of Canon equipment from my uncle who passed away at the age of 95. It has a lot of sentimental value as he was the one who got my interest in photograpy started. I am trying to get everything operational again and have a question regarding the battery pack charger for the high power ni-cad pack for the new F-1 motor drive. The charger is toast and I am wondering if a universal ni-cad charger with the appropriate voltage can be used by splicing the dedicated cable from the Canon charger to the new universal charger output cable and charge as normal. The Canon charger is long obsolete as most of you will know. I am looking for something that will work so I can use this camera and motor drive. Everyone on the forum seems to be very resourceful at keeping this wonderful equipment working and hopefully someone can offer some ideas.
