Thanks...all very interesting point...guess I'll go for a ball head instead.

I need a better tripod, and found a good deal on a pistol grip handle one. I was wondering if the pistol grip is a good option and is very convenient to use. I can tell you from experience, the standard cheapo ones which require you to set multiple levers are inconvenient and slow. Does anyone know if the pistol grip compares with a ball head in flexibility and ease of use?

Thanks

This is interesting. I got the opposite answer on a different forum. I suppose it is not as straight forward as I had hoped. Obviously, each one has it pluses and minuses. I generally look at the stuff on a monitor, and sometimes print out an image or two, generally at 4x6, although, on a very rare occasion a size or two up (so I would not gauge things to the larger dimensions). The thing is, can the eye really discern the difference b/w a 5MP and 7MP image on a screen or a smaller print (e.g., 4"x6")? Can the eye easily determine a difference between a standard compression on a decent camera and its low compression? I know that there may not be any straight forward answers to this either, but I thought I would give it a shot in case there is a rule of thumb.
Thanks for all your help.

My camera has options to select b/w 5MP and 7MP, and Standard and High picture quality. Which of the 2 following options is likely to give better results:
1. 5MP @ High
or
2. 7MP @ Standard
Thanks.
