Hi, Andy. And without ECF, is it easy to change AF points?

-

I just learned what Eye Control Focusing is. It's literally where the camera senses your eyeball and focuses on where it is looking through the viewfinder? That's insane! I wonder, is it only limited to the 7 AF points (like, you have to look at one of those), or can you look anywhere, even where there is no AF point, and the camera will focus there?

I can't find this info anywhere, but I know that the manuals for the cameras say "7n/7ne" on them, which leads me to believe they are the same exact thing, but with different names. Can anybody clarify this for me?

The batteries are for a 5D Mark II, which uses, I think, the LP-E6. But they are communicating with the camera, and the reviews I read said as much.

-

Marcus, they are Wasabi batteries. They got the best reviews of third-party batteries.

-

Thanks. Everybody else agree?

I have 2 Wasabi batteries for my Canon battery grip, and one Canon battery that came with the camera. Can I use the one Canon battery and one of the Wasabi batteries in the grip?

Great information, Matt, thank you.

Okay, I've been charging the second battery for the past two hours and the charger did turn green. I'm going to try the first battery again. See, I put it in last night and didn't check it today. While I was gone at work today, my mom unplugged it and doesn't remember whether it was red or green when she unplugged it. Now, when I plug it back in, it's red. If it was green when it was unplugged, is it possible that it's red now? I mean, batteries don't lose their charge without being used, right?

I just got two Wasabi batteries and a battery charger, but it didn't come with instructions, so I have no idea how to tell when the battery is charged. I plugged the charger and batter into the wall yesterday, assuming I needed to give it an initial charge, and the light was solid orange. 24 hours later, it's still solid orange. I was expecting it to turn green, but I guess the indication that it is fully charged is a solid light? And I guess when it's not charged, it blinks? It didn't blink when I first put it in, though, so that must mean it was charged when I got it.

Anybody have one of these and know the answer?

But if that glass protector breaks, then it will scratch the LCD underneath, right? That's what one person's experience was. So while it may protect the LCD from shattering if the protector breaks, it won't protect the LCD from scratching. The broken glass of the protector will scratch the LCD.

-

A lot of reviewers on Amazon are recommending LCD protectors that happen to be glass. On reviewer, however, did say that when his protector cracked, it scratched the actual LCD screen beneath it because, well, glass scratches. I would think plastic would be best. Any experience with cracking protectors?

In the past year, the seller has a 100% positive rating (only 33 votes, of course). I think I'll go for it.

On Amazon there are some of these battery grips, usually for the mid-200s ($244, $250, etc.), but there is one for $164, free shipping, whose description says this:

BRAND NEW. Genuine Factory Canon - Gray Market: The SAME factory product LEGALLY imported into the USA but does NOT carry the manufacturer's warranty or any applied rebates...THAT'S IT! NO PROBLEMS - We carry a 14 day warranty/return policy if not satisfied. These are 1st rate Canon.

It's $80 cheaper than Adorama's $244 one, but with no Canon warranty.

My question is, How worthwhile is that warranty? Is it worth the $80?

-

Here's what the lady from Canon said to me about warranties: "Please note that the refurbished products include a one year warranty from the date of shipment on the Canon Direct website. At the present time Canon does not carry extended warranties for new or refurbished digital camera or camcorder products."

She didn't say anything about "limited." Hmm.

Has anybody bought a refurb and then checked the shutter actuations on it? I've been in contact with Canon, and they said when they receive returned camera, they don't check the actuations because they "have no way" of doing it. Which sounds hard to believe, but there it is. So has anybody ever tried this with their refurbs?

-

Rob, the 5D Mark IIs on B&H are much more expensive than on Amazon, and there aren't any on Adorama, KEH, or Cameta.

-

Devon,
Where do you see that Canon has a refurb for $1,495? I went to their website and couldn't find it. Also, $2,050 was the cheapest price on Amazon that said it was factory-refurbished by Canon. All of the others in the refurbished section--all the ones cheaper anyway--did not specify where they were refurbished. But if refurbished means they're like new and pristine, as an above commenter said of his three refurbed Nikons, why not pay $2,050?

-

Ohh, okay, gotcha. Yeah, I actually found a Canon factory-refurbished 5DMkII for 2,050. Think I'm going with that. Sound good?

-

Rick, thanks for the response, but I'm not sure what you mean when you say you're not sure a repair would cost anywhere near $800. What does that have to do with it?

Some place called Dani Camera, through Amazon. They have a 100% positive rating with over 2,000 votes. Why? Doesn't Canon refurbish Canons? Stores don't do it, right?
Is the Elan 7n the same as the 7ne?
