  1. Thank you very much ML and Robert for your helpful comments; much appreciated. Actually Robert, no, I didn't shoot any with the forks on their sides, but that's a great idea and I will certainly try it and re-post.

  2. Hi, I'm curious as to your reactions to this image - whether it works

as a concept or not; how it could be improved etc. I have not added

any extra saturation, the colours you see are as they are. Cheers, Anthea

  3. Hi Michael, thanks for your comments. This is actually an image of a clear glass water bottle with various fonts saying h20. I filled it with water and multi-coloured water crystals (they start as tiny little coloured beads and expand in water) and took some shots once they had filled up and absorbed the water. Apart from cleaning up some white spots, and a curves adjustment, this is what I shot. The reason I'm explaining it is because I think from your comments (and I could be wrong) that the h20's were added post-production. That being said, I do find your suggestion interesting, thanks.

  4. What would Miss Havisham's dressing table look like? For those not

familiar with the Charles Dickens' story, Miss Havisham is one of the

central characters in Great Expectations. Jilted on her wedding day

some thirty years before, she had remained in her wedding dress, and

ordered that everything in her mansion be left untouched from that day

froward. This image is my re-creation of what her dressing table may

have looked like. I have tried to convey a sense of decay - a dressing

table frozen in, but inevitably ravaged by, time.

Saw this one a while ago and fell in love with it. Brilliant abstract. The coloured lines are such a delicious contrast to the round shapes, and their flow really adds to the way the tones and muted colours (and the 'eyes') in the layer underneath suggest a picasso smile :)

  5. Hi Charles, an interesting set of images. I think I prefer this one over the first two Deco Dancer images. It reminds me of a great bird with golden feather standing with it wings over its head and wing tips touching. I also really like the background, the hint of golden tones really adds to the effect. Well done!

  6. Hi James! An arresting image. I particularly like the refraction of the circuit board in the one droplet. Great use of light and shallow dof. Lovely muted tones too. Initially when I noticed that my eye was drawn quite strongly to the out of focus background, and to a lesser degree, the almost blown out area, I had thought the effect was a little too strong IMHO, but the more I look, the more I see how the detail in the foreground balances the composition perfectly. As a curiosity, I have to add that the upper right foreground area reminds me of a guitar! It has fret-like qualities to my mind. A well executed piece of photographic art.

  7. Hi Alan, I saw this shot in the Mirrorless Monday thread and just had to stop by and tell you how much I love this image! Brilliant use of dof, colours, and a feast of visual interest! Really tells a nice story too, with the cake in the background. Ok, and I have to confess, I'm a huge coffee fan ;) Very well seen and perfectly executed. Cheers, Anthea.

The little white lines/streaks on her forehead above her nose are very distracting. For a start, I can't figure out what they are, and for me, they ruin the image more than anything else. Maybe everyone else can see why they are there, and so, contribute to the image or belong there, but for me they just seem out of place and take my attention more than the lack of catchlights etc.

  8. Hi Margo - a combination of polar co-ordinates (on original image) then a filter called Veins if I remember correctly. The original was a gradient fill (rainbow colours). So a totally created image - no actual photography, but extreme fun! The veins filter was free from Flaming Pear. Glad you like it.

Thanks Richard! I'm never sure how others will react to these created images - while I create them for myself mainly just because I can ;) and also to extend my PS skills - I'm happy you enjoy them so much.

  9. I guess it depends on what you are trying to convey. With such a 'messy' scene, it is hard to decide what to hightlight or what is the actual point of interest. That's why I decided to attempt an overall 'decay' or 'decontruction' feel, knowing that within it, there were potential crops to highlight other aspects. I did agonise over this when I was editing it, so in the end decided I preferred 'the whole deconstruction' rather than a part. I took other shots to try and convey 'parts' based on tension lines, contrasts in shapes and texture etc.
