1. Hi all,

We are doing some video work using DSLR's and have been working with boom mics plugged into the audio in which work very well. For a single person setup, we'd like to clip the microphone into the hotshoe and use it that way. I can find hotshoe to 1/4" adapters but I cannot for the life of me find a hotshoe adapter to 5/8" which is the standard thread for microphone clips.

Any ideas? I'm in the UK btw.

    Thanks!

  2.
Does anyone know of any decent wide rectangular lens hoods to use with a DSLR for video shooting? We normally use a SONY HVR HD1000 for shooting video in HD but have recently starting using our D-SLR instead. We'd like the same wide style lens hood, partly for effect so that it looks like pro-video kit.
I know Lee Filters so a square box like filter holder hood, but surely there must be some other, cheaper alternatives?
Thanks in advance

  3.
Thanks Jeff, really appreciate your feedback.

    2. PPA Professional Photographers of America?
2.-4. thanks
5. I have websites here in the UK, but I think it's best to setup a US based site. Probably just using a build your own initially, which will include hosting. Someone recommended Squarespace as it does an integrated mobile app version

  4.
Hi all,

Not sure if this post appeared or not...
I'm an established professional photographer (weddings, food, corporate) based in the UK, but looking to relocate the SF in California at some point. I'm just looking for advice on the following:
1. Where's a good place to try and find assistants, second shooters etc.
2. What the best kind of professional insurance to get?
3. Are there any good on-line print providers, photobook makers
4. Where's best to advertise (the $64,000 question!)
5. Any good website builders for photographers?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

  5.
Does anyone have any experience of adversing their wedding photography services on The Knot? I'm an experienced Wedding Photographer but haven't ever used the service before.
My areas are SF Bay area, so want to do some targeted advertising just for potential clients in that area, the site seems very confusing and I can't even identify the correct category to start with!
Thanks in advance,

  6.
Hi Thanks for the responses guys. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something glaringly (excuse pun) obvious with how I was approaching it...
I did try turning off the display lights but it's unrecognisable as one of their display cabinets and the client didn't think it reflected what's in store. I think that bringing as much extra lighting as possible to combat those awful bleaching tungstens is the only way to do it, plus lots of bracketing and many hours in post-prod, plus a proviso that this isn't going to be like the studio shots we also do for them.

  7.
I've been asked by a cafe/food chain to photograph their products in situ in the display cabinets that they use in their stores (they have a mock shop in their HQ). I've previsouly photographed their food in a studio with no problem but when attempting this last time I had real problems... namely:
1. Food is in deep narrow shelves with tungsten fixed lights which bleach out some items and hardly illuminate other items
2. Fill in flash won't work due to colour temperature differences, filters helped somewhat but flash still won't lighten those dark recesses
3. Products are in plastic wrapping which causes the light to bounce wildly with dark and light spots
this is the best result I could get, which is not great:

Any ideas?
