1.
I had a problem with error 99, too. Have the same camera. The first time I bought it, I tried it with one of my off-brand lenses, (which pretty much works in most of my other cameras), and it kept having that error. All my other lenses work fine, most of them are canon, only one is not (cheapie Kodak one, but it works in the camera fine).
So I returned that camera just to make sure, and bought the same one again. It only works on the first picture with that particular lens, and then pops with a "contact error" (meaning the contacts are supposedly dirty, but I know they're not). I figure has something to do with that particular len's connection to my camera. I've HEARD it's a little more finicky on what glass it accepts. But, duuno if that's the problem or just an issue that needs to be fixed in the 40D's. I don't use that piece very much unless it's on another camera, so it wasn't worth it for me to try to send it in. I've been very happy with it otherwise.
But of course, I'm sure it is more for you (go with what they say-contact canon), especially with all the nice stuff you have to go with it! The other thought is if you are taking that much overseas, why not an extra body? Just my 2 cents. Hope all works out for you! :)

 2.
Ok, so I have the "challenge" of two 1 year old twins, and a 4/5 year old, and a 6/7 year old (can't remember which age the older ones are at). I don't think I'll have a problem doing individual shots, but I want to try/attempt to get an all together portrait of the kids (it'll be outdoors, park location). Does anyone have any posing suggestions for kids this age? I would have no problem if it were 3, but for some reason, my "4" always feel off balance! The 1 year old can't stand up on their on, but they can grab onto things to stand up, crawl, sit up, ect. Anyone have suggestions on posing, or even better a portrait of a similiar scenerio? (btw the shoot is tomorrow night, so any hurried suggestions is appreciated ;)
Thanks!! :)

 3.
I've had my 40d for almost a year, and I mostly used it in Manual Mode, but noticed something when I had some sudden light changes & went to use AV & TV (actually, everything but Manual & auto mode does this) is that meter reads 1 stop brighter than the "normal," correct exposure.
In other words, it's like I've upped the exposure compensation to read 1 stop higher than what the correct exposure should be. I've tried adjusting exposure comp., and even though it moves around when I adjust it, when I go back to shooting mode, it stays right on that whole stop of over-exposure. It gives this exact reading in a completely pitch black room with the lens cap ON. It reads one stop over... can't figure it out.
Also, in regular light settings the photo seems ok... but then, the exposure comp. doesn't seem to do anything at all when I want to try a different set up in these modes. (try to take a slightly darker photo in av or tv, it won't, the exposure stays the same all the time, no compensation for me) And the photo reads out +1 in the menu.
Did I miss or adjust something in the main menu that's not on the regular dials? Or is there something seriously wrong?
Thanks in advance :)
Joanne

 4.
Hi,
I have a shoot that I'm a unsure about (next month): to catch a ballet dancer in a mid-air jump on stage. I am allowed 1/2 hour after dress rehearsal (probably get to shoot during rehearsal too, but not the main thing of we're trying to get) to work with the dancer to try to achieve the shot. It will be stage lighting, but it SOUNDS LIKE (find out more on this later) the group is pretty flexable if I want to bring a strobe & set up. It will be a single dancer we're trying to get.
I am free to move around & pose people & stand where I want to (which is great). But, I've never done anything like this before, working with stage lighting for photographs. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions/experience as where to start?
I have one strobe, a strip light soft box & a large 3-ish-by-4-footish soft box (the one strobe to share between them.) Does anyone even use these things as well as, or instead of "stage lighting" when given the chance?
Also, what shutter speed/aperture is a good rule of thumb start, with or without the strobe? Also, if with the strobe, any suggestions on where to position it, on stage, camera right/left, angles ect (if at all, of course)?
Also, the best lens I have so far is my 50mm 1.4, so I'm leaning towards that one. The others I have have really great zoom, but not my fav. when it comes to sharpness & quick focus. None of the rest go down that far either (f4). Providing I can stand where I want, does this sound like a good lens to work with in this scenerio?
Whew, Ok. Think that's it.. for now.
