1.
I am planing to visit Crater Lake National Park in mid Aug, and been checking good locations to shoot.
Watchiman Lookour and Discovery point seem to be good, especially during sunrise. I am also planing to shoot beautiful night sky there too.

I am just wondering if there are any good sunset locations which are good during sunset on the east side of the lake?

 2.
I am visiting Mount Rainier National Park in mid Augsut. This will be my first visit there and I'm very excited about it.
Mount Rainier is known for wildflowers.....but seems the good seaosn for that will be over by the time I'm there, thereofore I would have to forget about including flowers in my photo this time (Looks like the peak was mid July this year, which was way earlier than usual.)
I have done some research for the photo locations. Classic Reflection Lake and Tipsoo Lake shots in early morining are my top lists.
Even though they say that August is the driest month, I would expect some rainy or overcast days during my 4 day stay. There are some water falls I am interested in capturing, such as Narada Falls, Christine Falls, Myrtle Falls and so on. I would probably visit those places on cluody days. Also I'd like to do dayhike some of the medium level trails, such as Skyline Trail and Burroughs Mountain Trail etc. But I would love to walk on sunny days though..... well, nothing I can do about the weather, I know.
Tipsoo Lake can be beautiful in sunset, but most of the locations in Paradise and Sunrise seem to be good in sunrise. Good sunset locations seem to be all in Mowich Area, northwestern part of the park, which I don't think I would have time to visit....
I'd like to hear any suggestions from fellow members regarding to other good photo locations on both clear and cloudy days.

Thanks!!

 3.
I am visiting Honolulu next week and would like to shoot some classic Waikiki Beach postcard pic with Diamondhead in the back.
I did some reseach online and found lots of pics taken from the ocean front rooms of Sheraton Waikiki Hotel (higher floors). Those are the images that I would like to get, but I guess I would have to stay that hotel in oreder for me to get those images, which I am not planing to.....
Does anyone know the place where I could get the similar shots without paying? ....lol
Please advise.
Thanks.

 4.
I am planing to visit Baltimore MD next week and would like to shoot downtown Baltimore skyscrapers at night. I did some research and found Federal Hill Park is a good classic location for that. I also found a nice pic that looks like taken from high rise building, waterfront promenade, some brick buildings and Federal Hill Park in the foreground, and downtown buildings in the background across the water. I can't figure out where exactly it was taken from. Hope it is a building anybody can go up after dark....does anybody have any idea where that is? Or other good location you can suggest? Please advise. Thanks!

 5.
Thanks, guys!
Yes, I was thinking about the view from higher ground as well. I will try Top of the Rock. Thank you, David.
I will definately try to go to New Jersey side, too. Hamilton Park in Jersey City looks good, but wonder it is located like a hilltop, and it can be a little too far from Manhattan....???

 6.
Thank you, guys!
Trump Wollman Skate Rink looks good as a typical New York winter scene. But just wondering if I need to pay admissions to the skate rink just to take photo of the classic shot (skate rink with the Manhattan buildings in the background).

 7.
I am visiting New York City on Christmas time this year. I am looking forward to capture some Christmas moments while I am there. A giant Christmas tree in Rockefellar Center and its skate rink are well known, which I will definately visit. Is there any other places I shoudn't miss this time of the year in New York? Please advise. Thanks!!

 8.
I am planing to visit New York in late December, and my long time dream, capturing beautiful night view of Manhattan skyscrapers will come true. I need some suggestions as to where I should go for that. I've learned that Empire Fulton State Park and Brookly Bridge Park are good for the shots with Brookly Bridge, which I will definately try. Any other good place? Please advise. Thanks!!

 9.
I went to Utah last month to shoot its beautiful night sky. Now that I finished oraganizing and editting those pictures, I'd like to show them off to my friends using Web Album, such as Picasa.
As I want to let people to see dust size stars, I am now looking for web album with better resolution. When I just view those pistures, Apples' Picture Viewer (a part of Quicck Time) looks the best for viewing small stars (My PC is not Mac but Windows).
Can anyone recommend good web album? Thanks!!

 10.
Thank you Joseph! It's very intersting website for me, and helpful!
John, using a cardboard is a very good idea! It's a very simple thing, but I've never come up with the idea...
I just came back from Utah and noticed your post. 4 out of 5 shots I took had movement issue and I am sure it was caused by the movement when the mirror moved up and down. I should have checked your post while I was there.... :-(

00Xzhz-318941684.jpg.2ec4951b0252c1d52ede595881d94902.jpg

 11.
Thanks for more tips!
What I am thinking to capture is full of stars over the sky with landscape in the foreground. I will try to experiment trying to determine the right lens and exposure.
Again, Thank you all!!

00XtZu-313539584.jpg.56bc52ecf0aeb6f50113a787b2279e54.jpg

 12.
Thanks for the quick response, Bueh and Craig!
I am probably using wide angle lens (11-28mm) to capture the big sky as well. Maybe the 30 sec exposure would be the max?
Another question I forgot to ask was about focusing. It will be manual focusing of course, but someone told me I should set where L mark is on the lens, instead of 8 mark (sorry I don't know the appropriate words...). Is that true?

 13.
I am planning to visit Utah early January next year to capture Quadrantid meteor shower. It seems the night time temerature there could be below 0 degree F. Since I live in tropical Sunshine State, Florida, I am not used to use my camera in such a cold environment. Last month when I used my Sony alpha 550 in Utah, some of the buttoms on the camera didn't work well in cold temperature, even though they do work fine now.
Is there anything I should be careful in terms of keeping the digital camera work properly in a cold environment?
Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you!

 14.
I am planing to visit Utah early January to capture its well known dark sky with full of stars. My destination will be Bryce Canyon National Park. I have never taken photo of stars before, and would like to get some tips from some folks who have experience in this field, such as ISO setting, exposure time and so on. ( I am not too much interested in taking star trait pictures.)
It seems Quadrantid meteor shower will be peak on Jan 3rd. Hope I am lucky enough to capture some of shotting stars in the frames as well.
Thanks!

 15.
Thanks, evertone!
I will definatelty try the view from Vista Point. It looks very beautiful and very San Francisco!! lol
I checked the temperature of SF today. It is much cooler than I previously anticipated! Thank you for mentioning it, Danny.
Among all the pictures I've found, what I like the best is the one which seems taken from under Bay Bridge on Yerba Buena Island, facing west with Downtown San Francisco in the background. I wonder if the place is still accessible......
