Tamron 28-75 f2.8 or Nikon 18-200 3.5-5.6 VRII

Im making the switch from the Olympus system to Nikon mainly for noise control and much more 3rd party support. Im coming from an E500 kit with the 14-45 3.5-5.6 and 40-150 3.5-4.5 which i feel Ive outgrown and has been limiting myself.
With my current setup, low light shots are horrible to deal with. I use center point autofocus all the time and sometimes getting a lock is very slow and frustrating. The noise past ISO400 is a hassle to deal with. The viewfinder is very small which makes it even harder at night.
I dont want to be limited by the noise and slow af, so ive settled down on a D90, but now I dont know which lens to get.
I like the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 for the constant 2.8 aperture and being super sharp but it lacks the silent wave motor which I fear wouldn't satisfy my AF problems from before. Also it doesn't Have VR which concerns me for low light.
The Nikon 18-200 f3.5-5.6 would cost me about $200 more but seems rather slow(3.5-5.6 vs 2.8 all the way) compared to the tamron and distortion/sharpness concerns me. The convenience of this all in one lens gets me interested but the higher price tag and problems i listed above keep me from pulling the trigger.

So its down to..
Tamron - Large aperture, sharper, but no silent wave motor, no VR, and limited focal length
Nikon - All in one lens with VR, silent wave motor, but slow, distortion/sharpness issues, higher price tag
A final note, i shoot mainly with my 14-45mm, and any other lens suggestions are very welcome.

People rave about both lens, but they are in different leagues, so which would be better for me?
