  1. I will be driving by this "park" next week and was wondering if it would be worth my time, and money, to stop by and take some photographs of the animals. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations they can give me? I will be taking a usual assortment of lenses with me, including a 300/2.8 APO lens, matched teleconverters, and a beanbag. Thanks.
  2. I have an original VH-R manual that came with my VH. If there is some specific information you need about the camera or (Horseman)lens operation/specificaton, give me an email.

    If you want a photocopied manual you might try contacting Bob Eskridge at:besk @ SHTC.NET. He deals (dealt?) in used Horseman equipment and often advertizes in the Large Format section of the Shutterbug classifieds.

  3. The C330 manual is telling you how to compensate using the aperture. Perhaps its easier to understand if you compensate using the shutter speed. If the scale indicates 2 and the meter reading is 1/125 at f/11, you can divide the denominator of the shutter speed (125) by the scale indicator (2) to get roughly 1/60 at f/11. That is the same light exposure as the 1/125 at f/8 they calculate. If the scale indicates 3, then divide 125 by 3 to get roughly 1/45 at f/11. Which is also the same light exposure as the 1/125 between f/8 and f/5.6 they calculate.

    Looking at it from a "light" point of view; take the number on the scale and divide it by 2. That is the amount of light, in stops, that is being lost due to the bellows extension:

    1 = 0.5 stop loss

    2 = 1.0 stop loss

    3 = 1.5 stop loss

    I hope this helps.

  4. The standard Horseman 985 did come with a Grafloc back. I previously used a 985 for a while before buying my present VH. I have found the best backs to use are the newer Horseman (all black) ones. From my experience, I suggest that you stay away from the older non-Horseman backs. The ones that I tried on my 985 had very poor film flatness, which becomes pretty obvious once you look at your chromes under a loupe. I never noticed a flatness problem with the older Horseman backs. I just don't like them as much because they are quite heavy by comparison. I have heard that Linhof backs (the ones for their 6x9 cameras) should also work, but have never tried one. The Mamiya RB backs look almost identical, but they are designed for 6x7 - so they come up a little short. Would likely work with a little modification. About the Reflex Viewer - there is a Horseman viewer currently available for the VH® that will fit the 985 as well (according to the owners manual). All you need is the standard "Grafloc" back. B&H have a picture of it on their website under their Large Format-Horseman section. Although, I found it cheaper and quicker to get mine through Badger Graphics. If you want more info feel free to send me an e-mail.
