1. Wow, have been away from PN for a few years because I no longer enjoyed the direction the new management was headed and to save any stomach ulcers happening. Over the past weekend I decided to have a look at what was happening........ the initial impact of the home page was electric and I was quite excited in going forward. Over an hour or so, the excitement had dissipated and as I worked further into my account/portfolio etc I found more and more anomalies.

What happened to all my image tags and categorising, just for a start........ I also cannot find my Presentations of which I had a few that took days and days to set up.

Having read a few of the comments on the Site link, it appears that these site changes have been introduced pretty recently. It is always a poor show when changes are introduced and the errors left to the user to find and grumble about before getting fixed. Invariable one change affect another and another and...........

Overall I find our lovely site to have been reduced to the cheap 'n nasty look of Facebook, another abomination in terms of photography. So what am I to do?............. to be quite honest, I really don't know. Our professionalism has gone.

  2. Interesting.... I've just received the annual email from Glenn about subscriptions, going forward. This time around there is

no mention of a website. I'm sure I read somewhere that a website was "under construction"?

My partner and I have discussed the renewal of our subscriptions and the fact that we feel that the "life, commeraderie,

and general member interaction" has gone from PN over the past 2years or so.

2015/6 would have been our 7th year with PN but have hardly signed in during 2014/5 because the stalwarts who used to

give good comments no longer do, and those whom we critiqued no longer acknowledge..... With no website, what are we

really getting for our subs? We will not be renewing for another year as we no longer get the enjoyment we once did.

So, to those who may read this and know Louise and I (through PN), take care and keep in touch.

    Best regards

  3.
I too was a user of the website and had many links to it. Threw my re-print of my business cards in the bin yesterday.
Very disappointing and I appreciate Glenn's offer of a fee reduction but that is not the real issue. I'll miss the site and will now have to find a new one, and start again. Bummer.
Regards

  4.
Over time, I have seen this type of request pop up and disappear....... then pop up and disappear.

It has been suggested (and I concur) to allow a text box to be added to the folder name. This would allow us to post a series of images and give a write up on those images in one place viz ... linked to the folder name.
EG: I attended the Hopman Cup Tennis tournament recently, having posted a number of images, I then needed to critique each of them (individually) to advise viewers what they were about. A folder name Hopman Cup, with a brief blurb as to what the images are all about would save a ton of work and update the viewers at lot easier.
Just a thought.......... for the back burner perhaps.
Regards

Oh! this is just the basic thought.......... there could be ongoing links and what-have-you

  5.
Hi Guys............. we are given a number of opportunities to correct spelling/grammar errors whilst uploading an image and/or posting a critique/comment.
Some of these opportunities only apply for about 10 minutes after you have hit the confirm button. If you check your submission you will see the opportunity to edit/delete (in blue) next to your name.
In terms of spelling mistakes linked to an uploaded image, you can select the admin option for the specific image that will give you the edit option for text related to that image.

Without meaning to sound rude, but I always check before I hit the confirm button...... just saves a lot of messing around afterwards.

Works for me, hope it helps you.
Kind regards

  6.
Hi Stephen.............
I understand your frustration here. Some years ago when I was just going digital, I posed a similar question to the PNers about "old flash units" on my then A100. My fellow photogs were quite vocal about the do's and don't and offered tons of technical data and graphs... and to be quite honest, scared me off (smiles). Back then I took a hard look at what might damage my camera and decided to go "wireless" meaning there would be no "electrical" current between the camera and the flash.
I still use this method today...... although I don't use a lot of flash any more.
If you are technically minded, you will probably understand what the boffins are saying..... I did not, and as I said, took the route of "no damage to the camera". Just a different approach I guess.
Good luck

Regards

  7.
Hi Michael........... congrats on the great "score" with your A700. I currently run the A100, 350 and 700. They are all great cameras, each one a little better than the last.
I certainly don't miss the "Live View" option as I never use it. I got such a good deal on the A350 (back then) that whether I wanted/did not want the live-view, never entered the equation. I'm still a view-finder man.
Enjoy.
Regards

  8.
I do need to brighten up this rather cold thread, bearing in mind that we are well into Summer over here and these lovely birds sometimes join us for Sunday breakfast.
That said, it pays to check ones setting before firing away.......... mine were left on indoor settings (tennis tournament - high iso) so my images in the larger size hold a little grain. Very annoying.
We live and learn............ I just love the colours on these Rainbow Lorikeets.
Have a good one..............

Sony A700 Minolta 70-200 af2.8 plus 2x........... iso1600(in error)

00cHyE-544688484.jpg.7bc020bbaea4b65bcb90a87743bdc073.jpg

  9.
Hi Line............ thanks for the explanation. On my monitor, the default headings included "recent ratings" and the image I questioned was already displayed, so I just clicked a few more pages out of interest.
Not a forum (or area ) I normally bother with on PN.
Thanks for your time
Regards

  10.
Sorry David, I accepted that as a given (thanks for responding) but maybe should have clarified further -
using the default criteria of All, Past 3 days and Recent Ratings.............. are we saying that within the "Recent Ratings", although the image itself has "not enough to count average yet" shown, it may have the highest (even only one) recorded rating(s) for the 3 day period?
Wow, that's a high accolade for minimum effort...............
That said, all the other images that I checked had sufficient high ratings to warrant their placing on the Top Rated category.
I wouldn't have bothered with a check if I hadn't posted critiques a day or so earlier.

  11.
Wandering through the Top Rated Photo's Gallery I was rather surprised to find a listed image, on which I had commented only a day or so ago.
I returned to it to see how it had faired so brightly......... however the stats returned the following -
Viewed 47 times
Comments 2
Rating - Not enough to count average yet.

So how, pray tell, does this particular image get recognition as a top rated photo.
I obviously do not want to embarrass the photographer, but will forward the info (in private) if required.

Just interested

  12.
Not wishing to sound like one of the 4 Yorkshiremen (Monty Python) but I have a Camera bag and a Backpack.
Now, the Camera bag is a padded duffel bag with wheels that holds all my gear and gets loaded into the boot (trunk) for away trips...... 3 Sony bodies, about 8 lenses, tripod, monopod, battery chargers etc etc.
In light relief comes the daily backpack for a single body, a couple of lenses and monopod.
The padded duffel bag weighs a ton (figure of speech). I have yet to weigh it, but it takes two of us to load it into the car (smiles).
Regards

  13.
Guys....... what a heart-warming thread to read.
I came from a Minolta 101b/Konica TC and Fs1 background and going digital in 08 with the assortment of lenses I had at the time, I went with the A100....... graduating in time to the A350 and now the A700.............
I was impressed with the A100 and two kit lenses right from the start...... reading the user manual on the aircraft back to South Africa and the Game Reserves.
I'm Sony all the way............ but it is still me who takes the photos (smiles).
Regards to all
