    Heads Up

          47

The picture is stunning. The only (little) thing that bothers me (you might think I'm totally nuts) is the composition. Yes, to me it's not

entirely satisfactory because of the large empty zone at the top right corner of the picture. What do you all think about this?? Do you think

it would be worth cropping the picture a bit , maybe sacrificing some of the out of focus poppies ?? I'd love to hear arguments against and

    in favour of cropping. Thanks

    anyway many compliments Peter!!!

    Masks

The city of Chichicastenango in Guatemala is famous for its

woodcarvers who produce these misterious multicolored masks for use in

    traditional dances.

I must sadly agree with the statement that this pic is unbelievable as it is. In fact having a close look at it one may ask : where the heck is the light in the forefront coming from if the sun has already set behing the hills in the background?. Now it maybe true that photography is not yust a pedantic copy of reality, but on the other hand I believe that according to its tradition (e.g. Adams and the concept of "found" images) it should be more close to reality than for example painting. .

superb image ! I really like your work especially the B&W pictures, and most of all I like your working "philosophy" (the choice of Leica and of film ) in this dawning era of pixelmaniacs.

I take the opportunity to ask you a trinvial question. How do you develop Techpan , do you use Technidol or else?

  1. A technical masterpiece indeed, breathtaking sharpness (all the bit's in place, good job IBM), and the colours, marvelous, eyecatching! But where's the poetry? What would good-old Henry say about this picture? Where's the delicate equilibrium and analogy between the lines of a landscape and the shape of a human form? Where the frozen motion of a man jumping over a small pond whose spread leg-pattern appers repeated in the posters sticking on a wall in the background. Photography intended as art should be 99% composition 1% technique. I think we should always keep this in mind. The problem is that art is difficult , technique after all could be handled even by a well-trained monkey.

Let's hope in poetic justice for next week's POW.

  2. A nice shot indeed, I like the symmetry created by the birds around the tree, and the overall creepy outlook. Only two tiny little things I don't like which could be changed to reach aestethic perfection: the blurred edges and the tree at the almost exact center of the picture.
