I love this lens. The quality of the photos are superb. I think it is right up there with "one of the best" Nikon lenses made. Very sharp and color is wonderful.

Glass over body I believe. But what body do you currently use?

How is it possible to not be?

With what you shoot I would go for the 17-55. Great lens The other reco of the 16-85 is good too, but the lens is slower. I have both of these. I love the 16-85, but indoors for portraits or weddings without flash or low light, it's too slow. The 17-55 is great though. Both very sharp.

The 16-85 is lighter than the 17-55 so take that into consideration if you need too.

I have two D300's with the MB-D10's and the EL4a batteries. Honestly the best money spent for me is these batteries. The seem to last forever. Charge quickly. I literally never worry about picking up one of my cameras and not have enough battery power for anything.

I highly recommend this battery.

I have a hard time believing Nikon keeps sending you back your camera and it doesn't work or has all these issues. You send it in and it comes back with a new issue? 4 times? No way

Great glass over camera body any day. And the body you have now is a good one. The lens recommendations above are very good.

I spent 5 minutes on your image. As others mentioned the slow shutter speed is the issue. PP is your friend with RAW/NEF
I uploaded a full size JPG here http://idisk.mac.com/digitalconfession-Public?view=web click the file and download.
Your camera is fine though.
