1.
hi everyone, I'm conscious not to spam sample shots this time so grateful for people's patience and feedback.

my new ultra-wide seems to be back-focusing: about 20mm, based on the test chart (I know these can be inaccurate, but I've tried it multiple times and keep getting the same result).

Test shot with batteries seems ok, but it could be consistent with the focus chart test (if the focal point is between the duracell and the battery on its left).

Also attached a couple of 100% crops of test shots with general subject matter.

thanks for comments

 2.
Thanks for the feedback.

Shutter speed on the 214mm shot was 1/640. 1/200 and 1/250 for the other two shots with the Canon, and 1/250 to 1/500 for the Tamron shots (including 1/500 for the crop posted).

Just last minute pre-trip jitters about the equipment, I guess. I'm not a pixel peeper by nature, but both lenses are 3 years old and well used (I travel rough).
On the other hand, both were last professionally checked in December 2010 and I've only done one long trip since then.

The battery tests were meant to test the autofocus to see whether there's a need for calibration, based on the following advice (I've done the focus chart thing before so thought I'd try a simpler method).

So you'd suggest testing for sharpness separately using manual focus?

During the battery tests, I was using a hard-edge measuring tape to line up the sensor with the duracell, so I'm fairly confident the focus was on that middle battery. However as mentioned, the angle may not have been exactly 45 degrees for every shot.
