1.
In the second example, location and time of day are important. The color, besides the post processing, is from sunset (or sunrise). If you find a landscape you want to photograph visit it in the early or late hours of the day, your sun light will be the most stunning when it is at a low angle. Many places will not be very impressive during midday but come to life when the sun is just rising or setting. As Jake said, your 400D is capable of capturing the color.

 2.
Roberta - very nice capture, it has almost a glass like appearance.

An evening street shot during a trip to Bangalore a couple of weeks ago. I found people on the street a bit shy when you pointed a D700 and a moderate size lens at them - I think P&S would have been more fun.

00Woo7-257827584.jpg.81851b1607c80079a8ccb9c95219ecaf.jpg

 3.
I thought that was the Zenith of camera development and that would be the best camera for the rest of my life.

Shun, you have said it perfectly. I thought the same was true about the FE/FM bodies. I do remember trying to sweet talk a girl into letting me use her N2020, but no success :).

 4.
Rene' - The panorama crop looks great, nice shot.

Mikhail - Great portrait, his eyes and expression are thoughtful, wise and a touch somber but not sad.

Hamish - Your photo made me smile! I haven't slept in a snow cave since I was a kid, maybe I need to change that.

Francesco - The motion blur is wonderful.

Steve V - I like your swings, the image has a nice tone.

This shot is from last Sunday morning as we were leaving the house, I looked up and saw the contrails in a double X and ran back in the house and grabbed the camera as everyone was waiting in the car. This time I already had the polarizer on the lens.

(Dan S, thank you for your comment last week).

00VUQX-209499584.jpg.fb22b3afbc9fc24477b97aa300bb4f82.jpg

 5.
Dan S - Very nice contrast with the gray buildings, street and bright orange, red and yellow of the umbrellas, taxi, crane, and cones.

Francesco - You are off to a great start on your 365, picture a day.

Hamish - Keep warm! When I'm in the snow in the mountains I think "Hamish would be camping in this".

Per-Christian - Congratulations on your new lens! Now you can see all the way to Sweden :)

Neven - Excellent, great lighting and subject. My Favourite this week.

 6.
Nikkor AI & AIs lenses work well on the D700. The older lens build quality is excellent and you should not see any colorshift from the coatings. Newer Nikkor lenses incorporate some complex mechanisms and more refined coatings, the improvements are incremental not revolutionary. Nikon still has some AIs lenses in the current catalog. Go 'cheap' and enjoy the lenses you already have, that is one of the great pluses of the D700.

 7.
I just took a look at my 4000 and MA-20 and then looked at the pictures of a MA-21 in a 5000 and I think you will be ok, it looks like it would be cosmetic. The MA-20 has a wider face that matches up with the door that slides shut on the 4000. The 5000 doesn't have the door and has a plain face so they made the MA-21 face flanges narrower. My only thought is that you would want to be sure you are not getting stray light in some how.

 8.
Jonny, could you elaborate on what you mean by 'depth'? Are you speaking of saturation or perhaps exposure latitude? Are you interested in color negative or positive?

I have had good results with Fuji Superia 200. It is inexpensive, scans well and has good color rendition. Take a look at some of Ian Rance's photos , he uses Superia 200 and has posted several photos.

 9.
From this weekend, winter's teeth are starting to show but not enough to stop the fun. Conversion in NX2.

Luis - I like the color of the church and the texture of the sky.

Greg - Humorous, I was thinking "Shut your mouth, bird"

00UvHr-186955584.jpg.e7275e10458bd7236c90b6a87d67f21c.jpg

 10.
Justin: Nice photo of the moto racer, great angle.

Aguinaldo: Beautiful Milkyway photo and the light pollution does not detract from it.

I finally scanned some film shot several weeks ago. This was taken on a backpacking trip in Rocky Mountain National Park.

 11.
Thank you to Mathew , Ken , Eddy , Dieter , Tiffany and Kevin for your kind words.

Rene' I hope you made it home with out more mishap and monetary loss, traveling can really wear on a person.

Tiffany your photo is so full of life and expresses love, joy and motherhood - wonderful.

Jens very nice lighting and motion with the blacksmith.

Matt the soft gentle smile and the pup are excellent, the lighting is great.

Kent I'm not sure why but I like your cat, I think it is the perspective and realizing it's a bowling alley.

 12.
Lithiums in mine also. It feels much lighter to me but most of that is perception - I know my wallet is lighter. 1.5 volt alkalines drop to ~1.3 volts fairly early in the discharge curve. Lithiums have a better discharge curve but they will appear to die all of a sudden so I would suggest keeping a spare set if you absolutely need to use the drive.

 13.
Several years ago I had a Nikkormat and only a Nikkor 24mm 2.8. It was not a asthetic choice, it was economics. It was all I could afford at the time. It forced me to be creative with composition and get close to subjects. I really enjoyed the challenge and recall some fun photos. If I had to choose only one lens I would error on the wide side, a 28mm I guess or maybe a 24 again. (Lil, I hope things settle, I enjoy your contributions.)

 14.
Ian: Very nice, I especially like the reflection and the colors of the cows and grass - I think I have 40+ rolls of Superia 200 in the freezer.

Jeff: The layers in your Tuscany shot are fabulous.

Hamish: Thank you, I hope you will one day be able to climb Denali (I prefer the name to McKinley also). It is an incredible sight, it is so massive. I was awe struck the first time I saw it a few years ago. My photo was taken ~38 miles away from the summit.

Paula: Thank you, I've wanted a picture of Denali to print large and give to my wife, I'm hoping it's the one.
