What kind of products are you shooting?

Hi All,
I would just like to know if anyone has tried the new Radio Transmitter from
White Lightning? For the price, it looks great.
Thanks!

Hi to All,
I would just like to get your thoughts on what would be the best system in
terms of resolution and flexibility for evidence/legal photography.
Example: Canon 30D/Canon 5D/Nikon D80, D200?
If shooting pics for an attorney for court use, would big enlargements be
necessary and would 8-10mp be sufficient (shooting raw)?
Thanks in advance,
BRN

Hi All,
I just wanted to get your thoughts. Those of you who have a lot more digital
experience. I am seriously debating between the Canon 30D and Olympus E500.
Both are 8MP. I own Canon film cameras and have a certain loyalty to Canon.
Recently, I have read very positive articles, and seen pictures from both
cameras on dpreview and its VERY frustrating to make a decision. The Olympus
is very tempting due to price with 2 lenses and rebate. The Canon 30D is more
money, but I know Canon is excellent from experience and I can't justify the
expense for a 5D.
So anyway, I just wanted to get some thoughts. I do mainly table top and some
portraiture.
Thanks for your time!

Hi,
I've been thinking of getting a pack/head kit. I do some
portraiture, but mostly table top.
I've been looking at the Speedotron 2405 Blackline and the Profoto
Acute 2400. I just wanted to get some thoughts on which systems you
pros think would be more powerful and reliable.
Thanks in advance.

You can get it off the Minolta website.

Hello all,
I know that there are a lot of Bronica users out there and I am just
curious if there are any manufacturers thinking of making a Digital
Back for Bronicas. I don't have the heart to sell mine (GS1) and
get a digital SLR. I am hoping to wait and see if there is a
digital back on the way in the future. I read from Tamron that
Bronicas have all been discontinued. So this leads me to believe
that no digital back will ever be available. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Does ASCOR manufacture strobe lights? I thought it was all continuous lighting.

Hi Dave,
Was the pack fully charged? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but being that you just purchased it, I have read in the past that you should give the capacitors some time to charge completely if the pack or monolight hasn't been in use for a while (15-20 min.) before shooting. It may be the case with your new pack before you return it. Anyway, Brooks would be the best person to respond to your situation. All the best.

Hi Stephen,
Like the previous post, it is very difficult to judge lighting systems by joules or watt-seconds. These are only units of power storage or consumption. It is very frustrating to compare joules, wattseconds or guide numbers between brands.
The best way to determine power output is a side by side test.
Rent or go to store and test systems side by side at the same distance with similar reflector or barebulb (I prefer).
However, there are many things that can effect light output:
The size, degrees and inside surface of reflector. The design of the flash bulb, the length of cables...
All in all the best thing to judge a system for light output is the resulting F/stop at a given distance. (Example 10'ft @ 100 ISO)
FYI, I own 4 White Lightning models (Ultra 1200s and X3200s), I use them for portraits and tabletop work and they give more than enough power.
There is a thread on this forum with light output comparisons.
I hope this helps.
Regards.

Hello All,
This may sound like a dumb question and I hope I'm in the right
forum:
With digital technology advancing pretty rapidly nowadays, are
billboard or mural size pictures being shot with digital or large
format film? I've heard of software available out there that can
claim enlargements up to 600%. Is this true? If that is the case,
should I get rid of all my film cameras?
Any thoughts? Thanks!

I did some shots just using a 24x30 soft box and a reflector.
They came out good. Also you can try using a white shower curtain for a tent for about $3. Experiment and have fun!

The response above is funny (no offence). I work for a metal finishing company and years ago I offered to take pictures for the "new brochure" which I did. I did it because I wanted to do it, to learn and get experience. Later on, I did the product shots for our office and conference room and our website. It really doesn't bother me, because I wanted to do it and my boss always tells the customers who did the photography and says how good I am (his opinion of course). Now, everytime there is a need for a photo marketing project or company video, I'm the guy they call.
I look at it as getting experience for other projects "outside" of your company.
It is true, however as the above statement mentions, people can take advantage of you for your talents. But in today's workforce, many of us "wear many hats" at our jobs. It doesn't mean you'll do anything they want, but it can lead to getting good experience and if you have any expenses, maybe let your boss know in a nice way. You can always do these projects on "Company Time" or during regular work hours.
Anyway, about lighting your project based on your diagram:
I would use 2 lights:
1 light high overhead, barebulb as an overall light or bounce your flash off the ceiling.
1 light with an umbrella towards your subject in front of the receptionist desk.
I hope this steers you the right way.
Best Regards.

Speedotrons have been around for a long time and are a proven system.
I love their design and quality of light.
But I don't understand why they do not seem to upgrade their systems. It would be nice if their packs had model light tracking and just 1 or 2 more bells and whistles and move with the times.
I know it all comes down to cost. I guess thats why they are one of the most affordable and reliable brands out there.
-
Sorry, but this is a dumb question and I'm just being curious, please do not be offended. But what is the purpose of interchanging systems like Speedotron and Norman? It seems to me that this can be dangerous both physically to the photographer as well as the systems themselves. Why not just use Speedo with Speedo, Norman with Norman?

Hi all,
I'm just curious about this new pack from Bowens the QuadX 3000ws.
I saw it at the last photo expo in NYC. It was huge.
Has anyone tried it or have any experience with it? I have never
heard anything about it.
Thanks.

It looks to me like a "narrow" strip light is being used.

I like your lighting and composition. I even like the background, but perhaps the background would be better for something else.
I would personally go with a white, cream or light color for the background as most hospitals are like that. I agree, that a pair of medical scissors or some sort of medical props would do the trick.

I have 2 White Lightning X3200s, and 2 1200 Ultras. You will not regret it.

I use a Minolta Autometer IVF bought it in 1993. Still works.

I love the idea! My only problem is that I don't have a digital camera yet, but looking for one. At least 8mp.
