1.
Thanks Everyone for your suggestions. I do agree with most of you that it is time to move on. I was perhaps getting a bit emotional and wanted to give a new life to it. I loved my D70 and probably did not expect it to end this way. But as most of you mentioned, I do have genuine problems and an entry level DSLR these days are much better in terms of feature. When I bought this in 2004, it was perhaps one of the best entry level one and I did enjoy it a lot. I have plans of upgrading and so I think it is time now. I do have a good reason.. Thanks again everyone for your valuable suggestions.

 2.
Finally my 6 Yr Old Nikon D70 stopped working all of a sudden with "ERR" message on the LCD. As most other who had similar problems, in my case too, the camera just froze while taking shots without any kind of warning. There was no impact or anything unusual.

After some research over net and also going through the manuals, it looks like It is not one of the problem that I would be able to fix myself. So I sent it to the Nikon Service center with the hope that I will get it fixed if the estimate is around $150. To my surprise, Nikon Service (West Cost) quoted be 255$ (including tax). Now since you can get a preowned D70 for that much money at KEH etc, I am in not able to decide if it would be a good idea to go ahead with the repair.

Per the Service center guys, once repaired, it will be almost new like, as if just taken out of the box. This made be think for a while and here I need the suggestion from all of you that have accessed the Nikon Service over years. I am wondering if Nikon also does the same way as Apple. Here I mean if you take a iphone etc with some problems, Apple normally takes 199$ and gives you a new iphone, the same model as you own and takes away your old iphone and probably recycles its components etc...

If the case with Nikon is similar to Apple, I would feel better to go ahead with repair as in this case I may be really getting a Like-new camera for the same price as used one from KEH.

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

 3.
Strange picture..This is my thought. I could be wrong as I am not an expert in optics etc...We all know about optical illusions. Our eyes are being tricked to believe something which actually is not. The same thing happened here. The Lens is like our eye..Here the lens got tricked..
You can try one simple experiment here. Just cover the line in all the picture except the pants. You can cover with the same color as the ground. You will note that the lines through the pant look much lighter. In fact if you do not observe carefully, you might not even note it. where as when you see as it is, the lines look so prominant.
Not sure if this can be replicated with all lense. It probably has also got to do with the particuler camera model.

 4.
Thanks all for the reponse. I did checked the backfocussing issue as D70 is ill known for this and ruled that out.

Also I did check the focussing mode and it is set to 'S'...(Single). I am aware that the having it set to 'C' would indicate the camera to not wait for achiving full focus before it fires, which in turn could cause some out of focus picture.. So this case is also ruled out.

I did not try resetting. So this is something that i can try.
Thanks again.
5.
Hi All,
I have been seeing some strange focusing problems with by D70 recently. Not sure if it is due to its age. I bought it about five and half years back. I do not want to really believe that Nikon Cameras would start having focusing Issues after taking about 25000 Pictures. Want to know from other experts if it is a possibility.
Basically I am experiencing too many out of focus pictures(about 30%) irrespective of whatever lens i use. I am seeing the problem with the kit lens, Nikon 105mm VR II , Nikon 50mm 1.8. The problem is more prominent when using the 105mm VR II lens. Initially I though it probably is a lens issue and now started to see the problem with my kit lens. In fact I return one lens as I was not able to get any sharp pictures with that particular lens. So my feeling is, it is something wrong with the Camera itself. The pictures are not totally out of focus, but rather are not sharp. While taking the picture, it shows it is getting right focus. But when I take the picture, in some cases, I can make it from the LCD it got screwed. but in many cases only after loading to PC I know it was spoiled. There are few patterns of the problem..
For the Kit lens, the problem is about 25% images and it happens for all focallength from 17mm to 70mm.
For the 105mm Lens, the problem is more when the subject is far. In fact the miss ratio is as much as 90% for the case where the subject is Far. But for the Half size portrait, the problem is less. Overall, I would say the miss ratio is 50%.
For the 50mm 1.8 lens, it is as much as 15%. It seems to be impacting least for this lens.

So my question here is, can I conclude that it is some issue with the camera body ? And if yes, is there a solution ? Or the better idea is to starting looking for a change...Any advice will be very much appreciated.
Thanks
