  1. Nice image, good saturation and pattern, all credit to you for getting the photo you showe here. Wouldn't it have been great if the jets had been inverted though? (Beyond your control I know, but....)

    Keep up the good work.

    Nige.

  2. As this is my image, I'd just like to add an explanation of the scenario. This was a 'snapshot' taken in unfavourable light, with a heavy camera at slow shutter speed. One reason that it is sharp at all is the wide angle lens I was using let me get away with a little more than a longer lens would.

The people holding the log are actually throwing it INTO the sea (repeatedly). The log was originally much further away from the water, and I just happened to be there to record the scene. This is my favourite of the handful of images from this scene, mainly due to the wave, about to break onto the shore at the right of the picture. The original image was quite dark, and was criticised as such when I published it on Photo.net some time ago. Since then, I have had a pro scan made, and can exploit it's full potential. I will submit the original version at a later date for comparison, for those who are curious.

This wasn't compsed, it just happened in front of me, I suppose it could be called photojournalism?

  3. I took this photo as one of a sequence of six, handheld on medium

    format in fading light.

I have only recently had a professional scan made of this, which has

enabled me to get the full range of tone and detail from the

original image. This is my favourite of the six images taken that

day, and this variation has had the orange jacket brightened, and

the sky and part of the sea desaturated in Photoshop 6.

  4. I have to say, that the Guardsman (they're Scot's Guards by the way)on the left of the frame is missing an arm that would have been better left in. Whether it was cropped or just not there on the original frame, I don't know, but a complete figure at the frame edge would have been more 'complete'. Also, it's probably a personal thing, but I think the framework item towards the right of the frame creates an extra area beyond it that weakens the whole image. Perhaps a closer crop in the horizontal, to exclude the framework item, and make the image more centered on a repeated pattern (the break in the pattern really draws the eye to the object, which isn't really significant in this context anyhow, and the Guardsman closest to the metal framework is slightly taller than the ones in front, further 'breaking the line')
  5. This monument is the Ashton Memorial, in Williamson Park, Lancaster, England.

To get this shot, I wanted the columns you see to 'frame' the building, and even though I was using a 28mm lens, I was running out of space, as I was lying on the floor at the rear of the porch of the building opposite.

I'd love to recreate this shot, and next time include more of the columns height.

Equipment: Canon T90, 28mm lens, grad mauve filter, handheld.

Nice shot, but it's hard to see all the people on the yacht, and equally, it looks as if they haven't yet really noticed you, as some of them are looking elsewhere.

Get their attention, then try to sell them a copy!
