Thanks for the responses! I ended up selling the two lens' and buying a new 35mm f/1.8 which I'm very happy with. I should have mentioned that I wasn't only selling the lens' because I wanted another lens, but because I was also trying to get some money for a new camera bag since my old one was just too small for my D200 (it fit my F80 perfectly).

Anyway, I'm very very happy with my 35mm and my new domke. Appreciate the feedback though. I'm looking into buying a used tripod now too (to help with the sharpness).

Thanks for the detailed responses! I showed my hubby them and he was happy to learn more about it all. I do think that he understands the differences/limitations and I'm more hopeful that I'll be getting the SB-600 in a few months! Yay :)

Thanks again,

I'm hoping to convince my husband that the pop-up flash on my D200 is limiting and why an SB-600 would be a good investment.

Said husband wants to read an article which explains why a pop-up flash can be limiting, and what a dedicated flash can do (for me as a photographer). My birthday is coming up in April and he asked me what I wanted, I replied a Nikon SB-600 or 400. He thinks that the pop-up flash which my camera already has should be sufficient for anything and everything (sigh). So, any links or good advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I do really hate that tinkertoy feel which the 18-55 has. I would keep the 50mm, but I can always buy that back sometime in the future when I have more need for it. Does the 18-55 VR version have any more of a solid feel to it? I don't have a tripod (am going to start saving up for one, but owning one is still a ways off), so that does definitely contribute to an overall lack of sharpness. I'd also just prefer something that works better in low light situations, though.

Thanks for the responses so far! I really appreciate it.

Hi,

I have a D200 and am currently equipped with a 50mm 1.8(D) and a kit 18-55mm (DX-II ED) zoom lens. The kit lens seems too fuzzy to my liking and I'm hoping to sell both lens' and get something that I can use more. I really like the 50mm, but I'd need to sell both to come up with enough money to get a new lens (plus I find it a little too tight on a small sensor). I was thinking about the Nikon 35mm 1.8(G)....?

Does anyone have any better solutions (even maybe another brand :/)? If I sell both the other two lens' I should have about $200 to spend on a new one. I'd prefer a zoom somewhere between the range of 12-70mm (I like to frame a large composition) but I'm most concerned about getting a sharp and clear lens. I'd also like to get a new lens, since I've only ever owned used ones (so that affects what I can buy with my $200).

Thanks!

Thanks! In retrospect that seemed like a really obvious thing to look for. :/ I appreciate the help, though.

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Lightroom, and I was wondering if anyone knew whether it was possible for me to go back and rename files of pictures that I had already imported to Lightroom from my computer? FYI: I have an older iMac.

Like if I just imported some pictures (say 300 raw pics), I notice that they all are labled stuff like, "DSC_0061"....can I rename them from within Lightroom? Or do I have to go and rename them all individually than reimport them???
Thanks!

I'm gonna try that Giotto's Rocket since I'm pretty tight on cash at the moment and I found a kit online which only costs $16 :) Thanks for all the help. After I've used it, I'll post back.

Hi,

I have a D200 and would appreciate some advice on what to look for when buying a tripod. I've never owned one before and could use some help. I'm obviously not a professional, but I do want something that isn't going to collapse under my camera or disappoint in a big way. I don't have a bunch of cash to spend, so under $100 will have to do (as that was my Christmas money). This is for both a head and the legs.

Thanks!

Hi,
So I have a D200 which I bought this past year around June and I've noticed that there are some specks on pictures I've taken and I think that my sensor needs some cleaning. This is my first digital SLR and I feel a bit a new to all of this. When I called in to a camera repair shop today the person on the phone quoted me a price of $75 just for a cleaning. Is this normal?

I'd attempt to clean the sensor myself but I'm afraid that one wrong move and I'd scratch it or something and I just don't feel so confident in my ability to properly and safely clean the thing. Any suggestions?

I currently reside in the Houston area (Texas) so if you guys could even recommend a good place I could go, that would be wonderful. I'm new to the area after having moved from Los Angeles. :)

Thanks,

All right. Thanks guys. I guess most retailers are just out of stock right now...

Maybe I just haven't been paying attention lately and missed it, but is the 35mm f/2D AF Lens discontinued? I just checked on Amazon and they aren't selling it anymore, except for one marketplace seller. I do, however, notice that there is a 35mm f/1.8G DX lens coming out. Does this mean it's the replacement of the 35mm f/2D lens? I just bought a 50mm 1.8D AF and was hoping to buy one of the 35mm lens' soon. :(

Please someone, say it ain't so.

Thanks for the response. I just backed up all my photo's to an external hard drive as an extra precaution and I'll probably either back them up to CD's or an on-line website as well.

So I need to take off Adobe Bridge CS3 and Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac from my computer but I just wanted to make sure that all my pictures which I uploaded to Bridge CS3 would remain unchanged on my computer in the "Pictures" folder. I'm pretty sure that it'll all be fine but I just wanted to ask here on the forum (to be safe).

Thanks.

Well I've been playing around a lot with PSE 6 but I don't like the flow of everything in it and I hate the Bridge CS3 thing. I was recently looking at Lightroom and think that may be the way to go but I'm not able to test it out in a trial so I have to make a decision here about what software I"m gonna buy for my digital processing.

To those of you who use Lightroom with(out) other programs what's your general thoughts with it? Would it work well by itself, or do I need to supplement it with something else? I really want a program that will help me to organize all the pictures and make general (maybe advanced) editing. I really wish I could do Aperture but my computer doesn't meet it's minimum requirments (even the old original version) :(

Thanks again for all the helpful responses.

I've been playing around with PSE 6 and like it. I don't like the layout of NX and still want to try out Aperture.

Thanks for all the feedback! It's been very helpful. Are there any books you guys might suggest relating to creating a digital workflow? I currently have pictures on my computer distributed between iPhoto and PS Elements. It feels kind of messy.
