<p>A used D700 would be a good option right now.....I have a D700 and it's a fantastic camera...<br>

The D700 replacement no doubt will be announced sometime around July and of course going by previous experience it will be in very high demand ......it probably won't start shipping until late November and you will be very lucky to get your hands on one before christmas......</p>

<p>I have my doubts that any new version of the 80-400 will be introduced any time soon.<br>

From what i can gather, its a good seller for Nikon and image quality is considered good.<br>

There are complaints about slow focus, however with every new camera body introduced by Nikon it seems to get quicker and quicker.<br>

From all reports its very usuable on a D3 and D300</p>

<p>Tamron realeased the SP AF 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) in 2008.<br>

Although its only for DX.</p>
