1.
Sue, it seems that the majority of what I do with small kids is with me sitting on the studio floor with them. Or I have even laid on my stomach to get them to see me as someone their size. So far that has worked well. Good luck!

 2.
Thanks William, I rarely see other Pentax users out and about. I have to come here to find them! Unfortunately, I only bought the K10 body because I had a couple of lenses already, and just enough money to get the body. I am certainly willing to rent a lens for this wedding.

I shot a wedding several years ago as a favor to a friend, and was not allowed to use a flash. The church had red cushions on the pews and the majority of the windows had red stained glass. I used 800 film and shot it at 1600. My photos came out fine, believe it or not. I got lucky, I knew very little about aperture or flash or anything at the time.

The church I will be shooting in this time is mostly wood. I am in the North Country of New Hampshire and wood is an economic staple here. There is hardwood everywhere. The one thing on my side is that the wood is not in the red or yellow family. It is a good, light brown that won't play too much havoc with my white balance. I will take my tripod of course, and since I don't turn the anti-shake off on my camera, I think I will be fine at higher ISO's even without the tripod. I would say that my major concern now is with the lens.

I am excited to do this wedding, the bride has been wonderful, paid in full including a tip already. There are supposed to be less than 50 people and a family member has been drafted to help me make sure we get all of the family photos the bride and groom want. The bride is willing to do most anything I want, and we have 2-3 hours between ceremony and reception. Plus I will be taking photos before the ceremony. I don't think I will be short on time!

 3.
I am shooting a wedding in a small, rustic church next weekend. By small I mean the whole church is MAYBE 60'x40" and by rustic I mean a woodstove in the center of the aisle and no power. That's right, the church has no power. I have been to the church at the same time of day as the ceremony and there is actually a great deal of light from the windows which, luckily, are not stained glass. I am able to use a flash in any way that I need. We are taking the majority of the photos outside, the church has very pretty grounds. I do want to be sure the photos inside turn out as well. I will be shooting with a Pentax K10D, and mostly a 28-80mm 1:3.5-5:6 lens.

This is not my first wedding, and just as challenging as the last one. (Ceremony in front of a wall of glass where the sun was reflecting off river water.) It is a small wedding, as they all have been so far. However, I feel like there is no "small" wedding to the bride and groom. A civil service at the courthouse is just as important to that bride as another bride's million dollar wedding. And I want my photographs to reflect that philosophy. So any tips or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks!

 4.
Walter, having shot film until last year, I found that Costco actually had a really decent lab. I used their one hour service until they knew me by name. I rarely had them print anything, I had everything put on CD. The CD images were excellent and so were the few prints I had them do.

I wouldn't touch Wal-Mart with my worst enemy's film. Or Rite-Aid either.

 5.
There are so many great shots this week, as usual. Several standouts for me are:

Nick's deer and "grandpa's boat"
Jeremiah's daughter
Michael's orange flower (I love those, as you will see)
Camus's "Returning home..."

I couldn't decide on just one, or even two. One of these I took this morning and I was please with the way it turned out using my flash in the middle of the yard in the sun.

 7.
As the other's have said, visit GoDaddy and buy your own domain name. It is very easy to then point the url to your Smugmug gallery. I use this with no problem to direct from my www.throughmyshutter.com domain to my Shutterbug storefront.

 8.
Kathy, I still can't get over having only 1,500 shutter releases on the K10! I've had mine for about 15 months and it has well over 11,000! I have given serious thought to getting the K20 and keeping the K10 as a secondary for weddings and things.

If you are truly going to get rid of your Pentax lenses, could you let me know what you have? I am looking at adding some lenses and would appreciate the opportunity to help us both out.

 9.
PY, I recently opened my own small studio so I'm looking at this somewhat from your perspective. I had no cash influx, no loans, only the money in my pocket. When I say my studio is small, I mean it is 15'x10'. Sometimes I stand outside the door to shoot. But it was an available space in front of a busy hair salon, they waived the first months rent since I did all of the work myself. And if you saw the before and after photos you would understand the "work" part. The salon and I share a foyer that has doors to our separate businesses. Therefore, I have visual access to all of their foot traffic. And lucky for me, the whole front of my area is windows so I get great natural light. Yes, I have to move things around when I shoot inside, but the space is affordable and it does work. These are just things to consider for your first studio. Sometimes the extras aren't really essential.

Absolutely no steps for me, there are clients of all ages to consider. And as others mentioned, I don't know any parent that is going to want to haul a child and all of their ensuing gear up four flights of stairs. Not having a lift would be a definite deal-breaker for me.

Best of luck!

 10.
Peter, I live in the North Country of New Hampshire and the nearest camera shop is an hour away. They are heavy Nikon and Canon sellers and I was shocked to see a K200 in the store the other day when I was looking for lens caps. I will take my flashes there to see about being able to use the ones I have. As you said, I wouldn't want to take my chances. Right now I am working with just the one digital body even though I keep a 35mm with me just in case.

I have two lenses I use with the K10.
Quantaray 70-300mm 1:4-5:6
Pentax 28-80 1:3.5-5:6

I am just not sure whether a prime or wide-angle would be my next best lens to aquire. Thanks!

 11.
I typed an list of the flashes yesterday, but don't know where it went. Cyberspace strikes again!

I have these three flashes:

Toshiba ES-10s Auto Electric Flash - I don't even know how old this one is, I believe my dad used it with the Konica FS-1 that I still have. It is off camera and can be attached via a bracket that screws into the mount on the bottom of the camera.

Sunpak Auto 2000DZ Thyristor - shoe mount

Achiever 260 AF Dedicated Autofocus - also shoe mount

I hope this post makes it and I can certainly attach a photo of these if it will help. Thanks again for everyone's input!

 12.
I am hoping that my fellow Pentaxians can help me with deciding on a flash and wide-angle lens for my K10D. I have three secondary flashes and none of them work with my K10D. I am shooting a wedding in a church with no power in a few weeks, and I will definitely need a flash to supplement the natural light. Any suggestions will be great as I am trying to increase the functionality of my studio on a budget.
This also leads me to my asking for suggestions of a wide-angle lens. I don't feel I am getting some shots quite the way I want them with my current lenses and it seems the the wide angle will help me a great deal. Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I am looking into renting some items for this wedding in particular.

Thanks!

 13.
Brit, I have done the shots with tulle as well, and I have the parent(s) hold the baby just an inch or so off the black background. That is as high as I was willing to let them hold the baby. Typically it is enough. It is interesting to see how many of us are doing that type of shot!

 14.
I had my first pregnancy shoot this week. She was not at all shy, which made me more comfortable too. I always have trouble getting the pics up, so here we go.

 15.
I am sure I could justify buying new lenses. But I will probably check out the sleeves instead!

Javier, that is a great photo!

 16.
Howard, thanks! Both boys are mine. I shot with an umbrella over my camera because the rain was intermittent and I never knew what was going to happen. My K10 could take it, but not the lens. Time to shop for some WR lenses!

00TKkX-133947884.thumb.jpg.e72f8feebe3702a70c2f480d76619d3f.jpg

 17.
My sons' senior prom Saturday night provided them ample opportunity to goof around. We got pictures and then it poured rain for the rest of the night.
