1. Hi all, recently I've got SB-23 flash which has this red focus aid on.

If I"ll switch off flash respond through camera menus but the flash itself will still be operationsl (on but not flashing), do

you think I can use the focus add on my D7000?

  2.
Hi All,
I have a following problem:
When shooting with the aforementioned set, sometimes after pressing the shutter, it looks through viewfinder like the mirror is goes up, and then down. The show is not going to be recorded onto the memory card in this case.
The issue happens occasionally, definitely not for every time i shoot,
Tried to shoot D7000 with my Nikkor 10-24, no such issue occured.
but every time it happens I miss a shot...

Please let me know what do you think.

  3. Helo All,

I have 2 questions, both are related to D7000:

    1. When focusing on manual lens, there is a little green dot visible in the viewfinder to confirm the camera is in focus now. Is that possible

to support this dot with sound confirmation?

    2. When shooting with autofocus lens in AF priority, the camera doesnt let me to take the pucture untill the focus is perfect.

Is that possible to make the camera to behave in the same way with manual focus lens?

    Thank you for your time:)

    David.

  4.
Hello all,
I noticed that in total majority of my shooting cases (D7000 + fast prime lense) in low light the only required thing is to help the camera to focus and not the flash firing itself.
I know that few Nikon flashes (at least SB-800 I have) have the option of infrared focus aid without flashing, but using this option will still make me borrow this huge flash with me...

I am looking for a small device providing infrared focus aid only... Doesnt matter if it is genuine Nikon product or 3rd party...

Thanks everyone for your time,
David.

  5.
Guys, now I have a confession:
After making crazy money on selling my so dissapointing Nikkor 28 1.4, I've bought Sigma
30mm F1.4 DC HSM for the fraction of price of the first, and I am completely happy!

Ii is tack sharp at 1.4!!!!! Exactly as expected from so much more expensive 28 1.4!
Yes, I had to fine tune it in my D7000 to -10, but now it is perfect.
Thanks you all guys for your time.
David.

  6.
WW,
I think you right regarding D700, but I have a problem with the fact it is much bigger and heavier than my D7000.
Thats why I thought about staying with my current D7000 and buying a new lens instead of replacing the body.
Regarding the term "dynamic environment" I used - I meant mainly the movement of people faces , definitely not sports.

  7.
WW,
I am not denying what was said in previous tread.
I've tested 24 1.4G and it is much sharper wide open than 28 1.4.
I respect your opinion and thank you for your feedback, but it seems that the things may differ from what you've described - there is at least one lens wide open sharper in the same conditions than 28 1.4 I owned.
The only issue now - should I buy the expensive 24 1.4 or maybe I should look for another options, like Sigma 30 1.4 , as EA suggested?

  8.
Hi All,

Following previous thread opened regarding Nikkor 28 1.4D insufficient sharpness wide open on D7000
http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00ZTGU
the lense was sold for the amount of 2450 USD.
Now i am looking for fast lens (1.4) which will give me more sharp results wide open.
I azmready own 35 1.8DX, but I want something faster.
No limitations on cost, the quality is the only important thing.

Thanks all:)

  9. Guys, you are repeating yourself.

I understand your point of not to shoot wide open at very close distances, but instead of judjing my ability on inability of

testing the equipment, try to answer one question:

The lense looks soft when shooting at EVERY distance wide open - its sharpness wide open at 5 m is very simillar to

what you've seen in my shot or even slightlyworse.

Now - attention - the question itself:

Should I expect significantly sharper images if

    A) I am buying new Nikkor 24 1.4

    B) send the current lense to Nikon lab for calibration.

    Thanks.

  10.
Peter,
You should check Ebay for this lense prices , it is being sold for much more than the price I've got locally.
Regarding KR reviews, actually 28 1.4 review is not the first one I was fooled with ...
The same thing happened to me with 70-300VR.

Regarding tens of other reviews I've read there, I think they were straight to the point.

I am telling this after about 14 lens I've bought and tried personally.

  11.
Wouter,
I really cannot get the point of testing 1.4 lense sharpness using flash.
I am planning to use it without flash, and that's the whole thing of this lens to me.
I see this lens as a very soft one wide open, I thought to make a use of it for landcapes and eventually for people shots.
Here I do need this lense to be sharp wide open with no flash.
Maybe the whole purpose of this lense is different, but my 35 1.8 behaves very well wide open, I want the same sharpness wide open on the lense which costs X15 more, am I asking for too much?

  12.
Ok guys, here it comes: Famous cat sharpness comparison using tripod, shooting from the same point at distance of about 35 cm from the object.
See the attached file Comparison of 28 1.4 vs 1.8
What can you say now about 24 1.4 sharpness wide open? Can it be better if calibrated by Nikon lab?
This lense can be sold for 2450 USD, confirmed by Local Nikon expert (he is actually ready to buy it). For this money I can easily have the latest Nikkor 24 1.4 AF-S.
May I expect more sharness wide open at 1.4 at the center? I really dont care about the corners, as I am using D7000 which is DX.
Thank you all again:)

00ZTYy-407079584.thumb.jpg.ebd86deb66ba011e82c4d481d32f911f.jpg

  13.
You right, the problem is that I cant use tripod right now.

I've done in the past those tests using tripod and the result were very similar to those I've got now.

Do you think the sharpness of my 28 1.4 at 1.4 as it looks now is OK (assuming the same picture was delivered using tripod) or it can be more precise after Nikon lab calibration or something?
