1.
Hi all,
This is an interesting discussion. Whilst I am by no means a wedding photographer (or professional), I recently shot a roll of B/W film with an old Canon AE-1 at my brother's wedding and was really pleased with the results, a few of which I posted here: http://www.photo.net/wedding-photography-forum/00UFDq
It got me thinking that there may be scope to be hired as a second shooter at weddings using (especially B/W) film and taking non-traditional, more PJ kind of shots...
I happen to think that there is something truly special about shooting film that digital may never truly be able to replicate. I may not be half as practical but it is something that will take a long time to die out completely. There will always be people shooting film!
Thanks,
2.
thanks again all - it was a great day - in the end I was pushed for time and took the only BW film that my local shop had - Kodak BW400CN - just shot 1 roll but very pleased with the results. All were taken with an old Canon AE-1 Program and 70-200mm f/4 Canon FD lens.

A few of the best below...
3.
Hi all,

Your opinions please - it is my brother's wedding day on August 15th and whilst I am not the main photographer I am keen to take a few black and white rolls and shoot some less formal shots with my Nikon F90X.

The wedding will be in the UK so sunny weather is not a given, so ideally the B/W film will relatively fast but with not too much grain - I am familiar with Ilford HP5 and whilst it is fast it will be too grainy for this occasion.

Any suggestions?
Many thanks!

 4.
Hi all,

First off, apologies if you think this would be better placed in the Film & Processing forum.
Tomorrow I am off to the south of France, driving from the UK and am looking for a few film suggestions. I have a lot of colour neg film but would like to try out some colour slide film for the first time, and tend to enjoy a slightly vintage/washed out aesthetic.
In terms of b/w, I am very familiar with Ilford HP5 but would like to use a film that is fine in grain and nice and contrasty.
I hope it will be very sunny and will be shooting in available light at all times - in terms of my style of shooting, check out these examples (again, sorry if I shouldn't post this link): http://www.flickr.com/photos/tjbaxter/collections/72157614340265039/
I'll be taking my Nikon F90X/N90S with a couple of Nikkor primes and a recently acquired a Canon AE-1 Program with some FD primes and zooms, so that will be along for the ride too.

Look forward to hearing all and any thoughts,
Tom

 5.
Ian, Frank, Michael: Many thanks - I'm sold on an 50mm f/1.8 lens, and going to bid hard for it this evening!

Peter: Thanks for the advice, and as you say, a 50mm lens will be a good general purpose purchase - and thanks for the advice on the other lenses.

Allard: I would be interested in your 28mm E lens as an extra bit of kit for some variation. 10 euros is a very fair price - I will find out postage costs and get back to you. Cheers.

Everybody: I'm blown away by the quick and very helpful responses you've all given - after this first forum post I'm officially a convert to photo.net! Sounds cheesy but it's true ...
