1.
You know, I see plenty of questions asking about wide lens on this site and I don't think I have seen anyone mention the the Canon EF 20mm. I bought my 5D last Christmas and wanted a complimentary wide lens and found a gem on Craigslist for only $200.
And I think that when you are staring out (like me) and you only have a single lens, you really learn the ins and outs and how to use the darn thing.
Just an opinion, but I think you might be able to grab one for a similar price and be quite happy with the shots it delivers.

  2.
My dad is leaving for Tibet next week for a month long trip through the country and he will be taking multiple CF cards equivalent to about 32 GB of memory. I told him the importance of shooting in RAW for the purpose of editing and archiving and he knows the importance of this. The only thing we are unsure of is what sort of facilities he will have to dump cards or possibly upload images if he has the chance and wanted to know if anyone out there had been to the area to photograph and if there was a recommendation to upload the RAWs to?

Merry Christmas!

  3.
I would check out Del Mar Housings and see their range of housings. It would seem to be on par with what the prices you are proposing here.

I shot a whole series of photos for a swimwear company with one of their housings fit for a 20D which you can see here:
I should clarify that I shot the underwater stuff with a 20D and the surface stuff with a 5D MarkII as my 5D would not fit into the borrowed housing my friend had lent me to do the shoot. But they do have an all new, incredibly well designed housing specific to the 5D! I saw the specs for it and the range of control for both stills and video should be a consideration when making that type of investment on a housing, not the least of what would be the quality of the seals used and the durability of the housing itself.
5.
I shot my stuff included in a link here with a fully waterproof and sturdy housing from Del Mar Housings:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/inthery/sets/72157618438975568/
I would not trust my 5D Mark II or another mid-level DSLR to a bag. Especially when diving. There are reefs to cope with and general accidents that can occur when managing as much gear as dive requires. A good housing is an investment any good photographer knows they must make but the results and life you get back from this piece of equipment are times over more worth it than saving on a bag. Plus the portal on a custom housing allows for greater images using L series glass.

  6.
Hey all...I know it's a bit redundant to ask about lenses but I am still green and appreciate the time everyone takes to answer strangers questions. I am accompanying a friend on a road rally this weekend and have been asked by the organizers to come and shoot some action shots of the other cars as they go along aside of our car and as we stop during the race checkpoints. I am shooting with a 5D II and only carry a 50mm 1.4 and 20mm in my bag. I was planning on getting a rental for the event as I am anxious to try out some new stuff anyway. Any recommendations? Maybe a 70-200mm? A 16-35mm? 24-70mm?
The rally and link to last years photos are here:
7.
I have been getting some small gigs shooting nightlife events and am slowly buliding up my equipment. But I do not yet have a proper Speedlite. I have been using a borrowed Metz flash rig and my problem seems to be focusing my subjects in low light. I flip between AF/MF to try and focus my subjects in but when I go to edit the pics they more often than not seem to be soft. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this?

  8.
Thank you for all of your replies!

I am going to send the 5D Mark II into get a warranty repair estimate.

I am not trying to be unfair to Canon, I am just new to the term "accidental damage" .... I have renters insurance but a high deductable and think I am going to have to eat the repair costs...

Lesson learned.

  9.
I did something highly ameteurish last night ...I was taking some cool timed exposures on the beach with my

friends and when I tried to free the cam from the tripod head, i dropped my camera on a pretty solid tile floor and

messed it up...my 20mm lens was mounted and it's def. screwed because I can feel the housing is a bit loose and

something small rattling inside...as for the body, there is a small crack near the review and trash buttons on the left

vertical side...I turned it on and it took a few shots right off but then would not review...there is now a Err message in

the indicator window and I am FREAKING...

I know there is a one year warranty but I am guessing i

f I said I was an idiot with it they would tell me to kick rocks... I never added the extended warranty and as far as

my lens, I scored that for a really good price second hand from Craigslist...

Is it possible to submit

it for repairs under warranty? Can I fib about what happened to get them to repair? I am absolutely agonizin
