1.
While my experience in photographing clothes is not extensive, I would advise that you charge a bit more because it can take a bit more time than you may think to get the clothing styled and positioned just right; you have to either have some good lighting set up or be prepared for lot of post production processing. For me, the outdoor model shots actually can be easier than the in studio shots.
Having said that, I had much the same situation for last clothing shoot (a start up for muslim swim suits) which involved photo shoot of model and then individual in studio shots of the clothing. They had $500 total for the total budget for their website -- and half of that I agreed to take for the photo shoots.

 2.
ted --
I am trying to use with xsi and not having much luck -- computer sees camera, that's ok, but my server does not show up on my ipod. did you do anything to enable it to work specifically with xsi...I haven't found the right combo of things to make work yet....

on the wireless...I wonder if using one of the wireless sd cards would work?

 4.
there are many, many people that are very happy go daddy -- so I think Apples' recommendation was on the mark. As with any company, service or vendor, there are exceptions...and sounds like John ran into one of those occasions with them. I have always found them to be very helpful...including when I did have an experience of a hijacked account (by someone else, not them). Again, I do also recommend mobileme. I am also a reseller for PrimeSite, which is a small biz solution, so be happy to share info with that as well if interested (I hesitate to mention outright since I think this forum should be strictly info...not promos).

 5.
I've been pretty satisfied with mobileme hosting -- and of course you get a number of other features as well -- i prefer apple mail over any other I've seen; idisk for storage and file sharing; and more. And, you don't get near the number of annoying promo emails that godaddy sends out. I also use godaddy for some customer accounts and really that constant emails are about the only complaint I have for them, as long as all you really are using them for is hosting.

 6.
I am looking into different payment options for customers and would like to get some input from this group on what they are using ---
-- credit cards. I haven't had a big need for this yet, but expect at some point I will need to provide. What systems are folks using and are there any tips for looking for a provider (offline and online).
-- checks. do you find the need to use some kind of verification service, and if so, who do you recommend.
thanks in advance for the input.

 7.
My Publisher, Apple (iphoto books) actually are surprisingly good -- just save your layouts as jpegs and load them as single pix or background for each page. I like the fact that with Apple you can create your own pdf version without the marketing logos and such that come attached with any of the others mentioned (i.e. if you want to show them on your website, they'll be tagged with the lab's logo and info.. you can get around, but takes extra work). Mpix pretty good too (but same issue about sharing online.

 8.
In addition to getting rid of the duds, I use Adobe Bridge (and currently evaluating Lightroom) to flag and rate selections -- that way I can just pull up the ones I know I am the most interested in, no matter how long it has been since I've looked at them. I then use Adobe Bridge to output to a web gallery for the client to review. make sure as part of this process that you have saved a backup copy of your raw files (I do so automatically through Adobe Bridge photo download; Lightroom offers same option as well).

 9.
Peter...in response to question about domain names...yes, apple does let you use your own domain names -- will vary by who you have your domain with, but GoDaddy (who I registered domain name through), gave pretty simple to follow instructions on how to make this work. You actually are still using the mac server, as I understand it, but there is a domain forwarding process that provides for having just your domain name as the URL.
Feel free to follow up if this doesn't make sense..and also check out the discussion forums for iweb (http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=188)

 10.
MyPublisher also has lots of specials and deals. As I recall, they were the original service for iPhoto books...and used to be a plug-in from iPhoto (but no longer available since they now compete for this service).
Since I usually print one for myself and one for client or person giving to, I particularly like their 2:1 deals.
Quality is very good.
What kind of markup do others typically charge for creating photobooks -- I am still determining the sweet spot b/w actual cost and what people are willing to pay and would be interested in some thoughts...obviously will vary depending on amount of work involved, but just trying to get some context.
